Elena hadn't gone shopping with Aria in a long time. But she quickly was reminded of how chaotic it could be—and just how particular Aria got once she had an idea in her head of what she wanted.

"No, no," Aria said. "It's too plain, El! You need to stand out at a masquerade ball—not blend in with the scenery."

"But I thought this was cute?" Elena said, glancing in the full length mirror. "Besides, it's covered in all these pretty flowers, so that seemed appropriate for a party at a greenhouse."

Aria shook her head. "Trust me, girl—you're going to get mistaken for the plants on display in that. Take it off, and let's try one of the other shops."

Elena knew better than to argue. She headed back to the changing room.

"Do you even know what kind of dress we're looking for?" Elena asked.

"Nope," Aria easily admitted. "But trust me, we'll know it when we see it."

It took about a dozen more stores before Aria found something she was satisfied with.

Aria clapped her hands together as Elena hesitantly looked in the dressing room mirror. "It's perfect, isn't it?" Aria excitedly asked.

Elena, however, felt awkward. "I don't know," she said slowly. "Don't you think it's a little much?"

Aria's expression turned serious. "You're going to a masquerade ball, not a job interview," Aria protested. "Come on, take a look at yourself—a real good look—and tell me I'm wrong."

Elena sighed as she stared at the dress' reflection.

It was, objectively, beautiful. It was made of a firm white fabric that flowed over her body perfectly—and then was adorned in diamond-like gems along the hem of the skirt and top of the neckline. Even in the store's lackluster lighting, the gems caught each ray and drew attention to Elena.

"I look like a bride," Elena said suddenly. "Isn't that too forward?"

"You're married to this guy," Aria pointed out. "Besides, if we get some accessories, you'll look more like a fairy princess than a bride. You leave your hair down, get some big gemstone earrings, maybe some matching gloves—oh, and a Cinderella-like clear heel!"
