After all, Luca never looked at price tags when he helped Elena restock the mafia's medical supplies. Despite Lucilla's blunt practicality, she would only ever recommend the most expensive places to get brunch with Elena. And even Jill, who had confided how odd her position as a don's wife was, would regularly import tea and sweets for her Women Only parties that Elena knew cost as much as a year's worth of her college tuition.
Massimo could spend money as easily as pouring water. But Elena knew he wasn't a snob about only going to the most "elite" and "exclusive" places. That just was his default—when he was raised to be the best Mafia King, that meant he needed to live according to a certain lifestyle.
Maybe Cameron was the same way? Elena wasn't sure though. She could tell he was a doting older brother to Noah, but Elena completely understood why her mother Sloane didn't like hanging out with Cameron.
If Cameron was always like this, Elena suspected she would quickly tire of him, too. Already, she was growing annoyed.
As Elena trudged along on this family adventure, Elena couldn't help but remember the times Massimo had done things she had wanted on their trips, even when they didn't fit the "Mafia King" image—like stopping at dinners or movie theaters. So when the group was about to pass an aquarium, Elena loudly pointed it out.
"Why don't we check it out?" she suggested.
Noah and Sloane were easy to convince. Cameron was annoyed at the suggestion but eventually relented as Noah got more vocal.
"When was the last time we stopped here?" Noah pointed out. That had pretty much settled the debate.
Cameron relented, but he frowned through the entire process of getting tickets.
Elena tried to focus on the lovely fish and exhibits, but she found herself thinking of her last aquarium trip with the Conti family and Massimo. Though Elena enjoyed playing I-Spy with her mother, she couldn't help but think about viewing tanks with Massimo and how fun that had been. Elena nearly laughed when Sloane insisted she didn't need to stay so long to see the jellyfish yet Noah seemed to purposefully slow down as Sloane glanced at each and every jellyfish display, thoroughly entranced.
