The Mafia King's Unknown Doctor Wife novel Chapter 399

Massimo was impressed. Lucilla must have despised having to testify against Massimo—and by extension, the mafia—in order to protect her father. So she made sure such a situation wouldn't happened again, at least not without plenty of warning.

She really was a resourceful woman. No wonder Elena had befriended her.

"That's impressive," Luca quietly breathed out. Massimo raised an eyebrow at that—Luca rarely muttered.

Lucilla blushed. "I was just being cautious."

"Do you think your agents could deal with an FBI problem?" Luca asked, excited. That surprised Massimo more—Luca never let delicate information like this slip out, no matter his emotional state.

"I suppose they could keep an eye on them," Lucilla offered.

"I have a different idea," Massimo stated. "Do they have access to the security room? Could they perhaps schedule the monthly video deletion early?"

Lucilla raised an eyebrow at that, but she knew better than to ask questions. She merely nodded. "I can have it done later tonight."

"Do so then," Massimo said. And for the first time since Elena's disappearance, he smiled wide.

While Massimo had just found a solution to his problems, Elena had just gotten several more unexpected problems herself.

Jack had just forced her to break a child's wrist. The young boy was already crying from the pain. Elena was too stunned to speak.

That wasn't the case for Jack.

"I can't believe you would do this," Jack started yelling. "You must be a real quack doctor—you broke my son's wrist! How could you do this?"

Elena watched the man's face turn serious and angry as he kept berating her. The enormity of the situation and its danger suddenly dawned on her.

They were alone together in a room. Jack could physically overpower, but he could also socially ruin her. Whatever way Jack chose to attack, he could do real damage to Elena.

This appointment was supposed to be the last one of the day. But thanks to Jack's involvement, Elena was forced to stay late. Every time Elena wrapped the child's wrist, Jack would frown and find some problem—and demand she do it again.

Elena couldn't do anything but obey. She knew she should be grateful Jack wasn't demanding anything else from her.

It took nearly an hour for Jack to be satisfied with the cast.

"You might not be up to par for this state's level of doctors," Jack remarked. "But I'm sure you'd do well in the Midwest. I have a couple of buddies there—we could get you set up somewhere nice."

It was clear he was suggesting she leave town.

It was late when Elena finally returned home in a sour mood. Strangely, there were a bunch of boxes all piled up by the door. Even stranger, they all had her name on them.

"What's in these?" Elena wondered. "There's no return address, so who even sent them?"
