Massimo put down his phone. “The cab will be here momentarily,” he recited in perfect monotone.

“Aren’t you going to walk me to the door?” Aria asked expectantly.

“My second–in–command just returned from his assignment,” Massimo explained. “I need to get back to work.”

Truthfully, Massimo would rather do any kind of trivial work than spend time with his wife in person. But it was nice to have this excuse.

Aria frowned, which did make Massimo feel a bit bad about his harshness. She gave him a kiss on the cheek.

“Until tomorrow then,” Aria said sweetly. “Have a good day, my love. Remember to have dinner, and please try to get some rest.”

Massimo nodded absently. “Goodbye.”

Massimo’s second–in–command walked into the dining room immediately. That’s a trait Massimo liked about Luca–he didn’t waste any time.

“I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” Luca said, “but you had said you wanted me to report as soon as I returned.”

Massimo waved his hand. He wanted Luca to just get straight to the point.

Luca fixed his posture. “Don Tyler Morello’s location cannot be confirmed at this follow his trail and alert me immediately should they find anything.‘

“But,” Luca continued, “we were able to figure out why he was in town. He was securing some business deals with real estate companies and a few apartment complexes. None of them have been reported properly to the mafia network.”

Massimo frowned. “Just some real estate deals? Really–that’s all?”

“Combined with the purchasing of some home improvement tools and some heavier construction equipment bought under the table, it sounds like he’s building something big,” Luca explained. “Perhaps some kind of stronghold, or a place to hide deals even we don’t know about.”

“Great,” Massimo complained. “So we it could be something as simple as skimming from our tributes or as dangerous as all–out war. And we have no idea which.”

“We did manage to capture some of Don Tyler Morello’s advisors,” Luca said. “I’ll personally see to it that all relevant information is extracted.”

“Don’t go easy on them,” Massimo warned. “Tyler is dangerous, and we’re in the right since Tyler attacked our estate. There’s no reason to hold back.”
