A freezing chill shot up from Audrey's heels straight to her chest.
Truthfully, before Nora had even spoken, Audrey had considered that exact nuclear option: burning it all down by posting her and Joaquin's marriage license online to prove who the real homewrecker was.
But hearing Rainey spell it out made her head spin. She was right. Joaquin was the CEO of Judd Group. His PR team neutralized any trace of a scandal within minutes. Yet today, rumors about him and Audrey had been festering for three hours, and the company hadn't lifted a finger.
It meant Joaquin didn't care. He was letting it happen.
Audrey's hands curled into tight fists at her sides, a bitter taste coating her tongue. Technically, the internet mob was only attacking her. The viral photos didn't show Joaquin's face clearly, nor did they name him. It was all blind speculation. They were tearing Audrey apart, which didn't affect the untouchable CEO of Judd Group in the slightest. He had no reason to step in.
But if she posted that marriage license and dragged him into the spotlight... knowing how fiercely he protected Rainey, he just might do exactly what she threatened.
Noticing the blood draining from Audrey's face, Rainey's smirk deepened. "Don't look so devastated, Audrey. Just quit the industry. Never step foot on a set again, leave Silveridge City, and go back to whatever hole you crawled out of. The hate won't follow you there."
Rainey leaned in, her glossy lips brushing the air by Audrey's ear. "After all, they barely have internet in that rundown little mountain town of yours, right? No one back home will ever know what a filthy reputation you have here."
Audrey took a slow, deep breath, her knuckles turning white. When she finally looked up, her eyes were ice. "I haven't done anything wrong. Why should I care what internet trolls say, and why should I quit my job or leave this city?"
She pivoted, marching over to Nora and snatching the script from her hands. "Today's scenes are dialogues between my character and Miss Rainey." She looked at the lingering crew members. "Where is Gideon Vance? What's the shooting schedule?"
The crew, who had been enjoying the drama, exchanged mocking glances.
