The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Rainey giggled. “I just think Audrey is incredibly lucky that when she scrapes her ankle on the street, a man of your stature is right there to wait on her hand and foot.”

She deliberately emphasized “wait on her hand and foot,” making her implications crystal clear.

Miles methodically screwed the cap back onto the iodine bottle. “Mrs. Judd and I ran into each other by chance, and I did her a minor favor. I think ‘waiting hand and foot’ is a phrase better suited for you and Mr. Judd.”

His cold gaze swept over Rainey’s hand hooked securely around Joaquin’s arm. His deep voice carried a faint trace of mockery. “Given how intimate you two are, I’d say he’s definitely waiting on you hand and foot.”

He didn’t raise his voice, but every word hit like a hammer.

The air in the café instantly plummeted to freezing.

Rainey’s smile shattered, her face turning ugly.

Joaquin’s eyes darkened dangerously. “Mr. Foster, watch your mouth!”

“Mr. Judd.” Miles stood up, his imposing stature easily matching Joaquin’s. “I have zero interest in investigating whether you’re committing adultery or not. I simply can’t stand seeing you treat your wife like garbage.”

“She came to the hospital for a checkup, and not only are you not by her side, but you show up arm in arm with another woman. I explicitly told you she was just nearly run over by a car, and instead of asking if she’s okay, you let your sidepiece slander her reputation and accuse her of having an affair with a man she’s only met twice.”

“She almost died just trying to pick up a bottle of pills. Do you even know what those pills are? Do you know she’s already-”

“Mr. Foster!” Realizing exactly what Miles was about to say, Audrey’s eyes widened in horror. She shot to her feet, frantically cutting him off. “This is between us, don’t get involved!”

The word “pregnant” died in Miles’s throat. He frowned at Audrey.

Audrey bit her lip, her face stark white as she desperately shook her head at him.

Joaquin took in every silent exchange between them. His eyes grew pitch black.

A moment ago, he had been willing to believe that Miles and Audrey were innocent and it was just a coincidence. But now, their secretive eye contact was glaring proof that his wife shared a secret with another man-a secret they were keeping from him!

“Audrey is already what?” Seeing Audrey interrupt him, Rainey blinked her big, innocent eyes. “Miles, why’d you stop talking?”

Miles shot her a frigid glare but remained silent.

Rainey wasn’t about to let it go. She turned to Audrey. “Audrey, why don’t you tell us? What exactly is going on with you?”

Then, acting as if she had just had an epiphany, she scanned Audrey up and down with narrowed eyes. “Don’t tell me you’re pregnant?”
