Several police officers stepped out of the elevator, moving purposefully down the hall.
"We received a report ten minutes ago regarding sexual harassment and a physical altercation," the lead female officer announced, her sharp eyes sweeping over the battered crowd. "Which one of you is Audrey Sinclair?"
Under the dumbfounded stares of everyone present, Audrey stepped forward. "That's me. I called it in."
Nora's jaw practically hit the floor. "Audrey, your backup was the cops?!"
Audrey glanced back with a small smile. "Who else?"
From start to finish, the thought of relying on Joaquin had never crossed her mind. Trusting the police was infinitely safer than trusting a man.
By the time they finished giving their statements at the precinct, it was past 11 PM. Walking out the front doors, Audrey checked her phone and saw a text from Julian.
[What happened? Woke up and heard you and Nora ended up at the police station over a fight. Are you okay?]
[All good. Everything is sorted,] she texted back. Putting her phone away, she led Nora to the curb to hail a cab.
A sleek black Maserati pulled up and stopped right in front of them. The window rolled down to reveal Felix smiling from the driver's seat. "Get in."
Audrey glanced into the back. Through the tinted glass, she could just make out the sharp silhouette of Joaquin's profile.
Knowing how impossible it was to get a cab in this area at this hour, she didn't bother protesting. She opened the door and slid into the back.
Felix popped the passenger door open. "Hop in, kid. I'll give you a ride."
Nora bit her lip nervously before carefully climbing into the front.
The car shifted into drive. The atmosphere inside the cabin was suffocatingly tense. Desperate to break the ice, Felix started making small talk with Nora. Initially stiff, the teenager quickly relaxed under Felix's easy charm, and soon the two were happily gossiping about entertainment industry rumors.
