Audrey looked at him with cool detachment. "If she fell out of bed, you need a doctor, not me."
Joaquin’s jaw clenched. "She fell because of you!"
"It’s not like I pushed her." Audrey frowned and pressed the 'Close Door' button again. "Since she just fell, she’s probably in a lot of pain and needs you right now. You should go back and comfort her."
Her eyes were so calm, so utterly devoid of life, that it made a suffocating weight press down on his chest. His scowl deepened. Reaching in, he gripped her wrist and physically yanked her out of the elevator. "She needs you. You’re coming back with me!"
Audrey struggled to pull free, but his grip was like an iron vise. No matter how hard she fought, she couldn't shake him off. Her wrist throbbed with sharp pain.
Stumbling slightly behind him, she stared at his broad back as he practically dragged her down the hall like a lifeless object. A bitter ache washed over her.
Just this morning, when she had woken up sick, he had been so worried. He’d rubbed her stomach to ease the cramps, and when she threw up, he had carried her out to the car himself to take her to the hospital.
But the second Rainey was involved, he became a completely different person. It seemed that in his world, as long as something had to do with Rainey, everything else—and everyone else—became secondary.
Back in the suite, Rainey had already been lifted back into bed with the help of the nurse and Fiona.
By the time Joaquin dragged Audrey through the door, the nurse was carefully wiping away the blood trailing from the dislodged IV needle on Rainey’s hand. "Ms. Sinclair, you’re bleeding so much. If you won't take care of yourself, at least let us take care of you. How on earth did you fall out of bed?"
Seeing the blood on the sterile gauze, Fiona looked like she was in physical pain herself. "Rainey, you have to be careful! I’m still waiting for you and Joaquin to get married and give me grandchildren!"
Then, she turned her head and spotted Audrey being pulled into the room by Joaquin. Fury instantly hijacked her features. She lunged forward, raising her hand high, fully intending to slap Audrey across the face. "This is all your fault, you absolute jinx! If it weren't for you, why would she have fallen?!"
