The Moment I Realized I Can't Lose You novel Chapter 78

Audrey dreamt she was floating. In the dream, someone gently coaxed her to drink a glass of warm milk, then rubbed a soothing balm into her aching lower back and legs. Later, she felt herself being lifted, carried a long distance, and finally lowered onto a cloud-like mattress. Then, she was enveloped in a tight, inescapable embrace...

The next morning, Audrey woke up completely tangled in Joaquin's arms. The very first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was his breathtakingly handsome face. He was sleeping heavily, his breaths deeper and more rhythmic than usual.

She tried to squirm out of his grasp. But his arms were like iron bands locking her in place. No matter how hard she pushed, she couldn't break free.

Grabbing her phone from the nightstand, she checked the time and immediately started shaking him. "Joaquin, get up!"

"Stop moving," he grumbled, eyes still shut tight as he pulled her flush against his chest. "Let me sleep a little longer."

He hadn't slept properly in weeks while dozing in hospital chairs beside Rainey. Last night had been the most restful, restorative sleep he'd had in a long time.

Audrey frowned, pushing against his chest. "I have to get back to the studio lot. I have an eight o'clock handover meeting. It's already six. If you don't let me up, I'm going to be late!"

Burying his face in her hair and inhaling her sweet scent, he muttered, "Be a good girl and let me sleep a little more. I'll drive you myself. You won't be late."

...

When his sleek sports car finally screeched to a halt outside Silveridge Movie World, it was ten minutes to eight.

Clutching the passenger side door handle, Audrey was pale and gasping for breath. "Are you insane?! Why were you driving so fast!?"

Impeccably dressed in his tailored suit, Joaquin leaned his elbow out the window, resting his chin in his hand. "Weren't you terrified of being late? You still have eight minutes to spare."

Her face draining of color, Audrey threw the door open and jumped out.
