Chapter 385
I stand with her as she looks around the room. I can feel her mentally saying goodbye to the young woman that she was when she lived here.
When we walk out of the room, it feels like she closes the door on this part of her life, leaving the past where it belongs. In the past.

I’d been surprised when I’d seen the card I wrote years ago sitting on
dresser. That’s not where I left it when I ran from here. It had been tucked away in a drawer somewhere. My guess is that Camden had come in, searching for any clue about where to find me, had found the card and assumed it was for him, placing on the dresser where I’d see it when he dragged me back.
I wrote it before I understood what the public claimings were all about, back when I’d been excited to find my mate and spend the rest of my life with him. When I saw it sitting there, Robin’s jealousy that it might have been for another man rushing through our bond, I’d realized just how perfect my card was.
Apparently, my mate thought so too if the flood of desire, pride, and love that I felt from him in the kiss after he read it is any indication.
It felt good to step out of the packhouse realizing that this isn’t my home anymore. I have no connection to this place. My home is with Robin in our pack. Every memory I have there is a positive one. The best memories that I have here don’t come close to the worst memories

that I have with Robin.
When I step outside, I take a deep breath, letting it all go. I hope someone worthy gets this pack and can bring it to the glory that it deserves, but that’s not me. My place is with Robin, at his side, driving the changes that are needed in the werewolf community.
Dinner at Amelia’s pack that night is a loud, boisterous affair. Robin stayed by my side, his arm casually wrapped around me while we ate. But even while we talked and laughed with our friends, he was touching me, letting me know that he was here. It’s the casualness of it that makes it so special. He’s not making a big deal about everything, not hovering over me or making me look weak. It’s just a gentle caress, a stroke of his fingers over my arm, a readjustment of his arm around me holding me just a bit tighter, so that I’m constantly aware that he’s here, supporting me.
‘I’m always here for you, Nikki. Like I said before, I know you don’t need me. The fact that you accept what I’m giving you makes our bond that much more special to me,‘ he says, as he laughs at something someone else said.
I look at him a moment, intrigued as I always am at how he can manage multiple conversations and still pay attention to everything that is going on around him. Sophie and Allison have told me that their mates are the same. It’s impressive.
Robin turns, smiling at me, having heard my thoughts. Because I can, I reach out and cup his cheek, leaning in to kiss him. He lets me guide the kiss, and I deepen it slowly, but not too much since we’re in the middle of the dining hall, surrounded by people from multiple packs.

“I love you too,” he says when I pull away.
I smile, leaning against him as I turn back to the group.
