‘Hey, I’ll be right there,’ he says. I can tell he’s panting. I look at the clock. It’s too early for warrior training to be over.
I push up, in the bed, rubbing my stomach and trying to adjust my son’s position, just as Robin comes in. He’s covered in sweat, dirt, and grass.
“Hey baby. Are you okay?” he asks, walking up and looking me
over.
“Where have you been?” I ask him.
He gives me a sheepish look. “I couldn’t sleep so I’ve been running patrols.”
“All night?!” I exclaim.
He shrugs, looking away. “Ever you since you fell asleep.”
“Robin,” I say, calling after him as he walks into the bathroom. “Robin, STOP!” I say, rushing up to him, grabbing his arm, and turning him to face me. I look in his eyes and see the fear in them. It’s not fear for him or even the pack, it’s fear for me and
our pup.
“Baby, talk to me,” I say, putting my hands on his cheeks.
“Nikki, I’m gross. We can talk when I get out of the shower,” he says, gently pulling my hands from his face and stepping into the shower before turning on the water. I narrow my eyes as he grits his teeth when cold water starts coming out of the showerhead washing the dirt and grime off of him.
