“Shut your fucking mouth, pup,” I snarl, pushing into the inner circle and standing with my friends.

“Make that nine and a half,” Ezra says. “Still want to take us on?”

The Alpha growls. “If we find her, you won’t stop us from claiming her.”

“Let’s go,” he says. He and his pack members shift and begin taking off toward the river. We wait until they’re far enough away, and then I turn to Dutton. “You think that’s the scent we found yesterday?”

“She might have been headed to the mountains. We need to furry.” I

They leap and begin racing toward the mountains as I run after them.

After the delay, the sun is starting to set by the time I get to the mountain. Just as I’m about to start climbing, Lucas comes running down the mountain.

He shifts quickly. “Robin hurry. We found where she stayed last night. There’s a scent of another she–wolf with her that Dutton says he thinks is the scent of the woman that you two caught by the river.”

I turn and look towards the river. If that hunted she–wolf is with Nikki and the Alpha and his pack catch her scent by the river…

“She was here,” I say, breathing in her scent. “Those fucking bastards kept us from getting to her sooner.”

I turn looking behind me and only seeing Lucas. “Where are the others?”

“We need food. They went hunting. What else do you smell?” Lucas

asks me.

I close my eyes, breathing in my mate’s scent, not wanting to leave this spot unless it’s to find her. But he’s right, I need to know if that she- wolf the other pack is hunting is with my mate. If so, she’s in more danger than I realized.

I begin crawling around the space, letting Derric sniff the space around us. I find the spot where the she–wolf must have slept.

“Yeah, that’s her. That’s the scent by the river.”

I continue sniffing around. There’s another faint scent, something familiar but elusive. I lift my nose, Derrie trying to catch the scent. It’s an earthy scent, but just different enough that I keep turning my head trying to find it.

“What is that other scent? What is it?”
