Chapter 425
“We need to move faster,” Jacqueline says, looking around nervously.
“What do you suggest?” I ask. I’m nursing Rory as I walk. I know that Jacqueline’s wolf is strong, but she needs a break from carrying us too, and we also need to find food soon. I know it will help me get stronger and get Adira back sooner, but now, Jacqueline’s wolf, Serena, is also at risk of becoming weak if she continues to carry me and Rory without eating.
“Once we get to the river, let’s get in and let it take us farther south. I know you said we need to go east, but right now, we know there are others close by. We need to get farther away from them.”
I watch her shiver as if she can feel them closing in on us. I’ve just had the thought when we hear the howl of the hunt behind us.
“SHIT!” I say as Jacqueline shreds her clothes and shifts. Rory is still nursing, but there’s nothing I can do about that right now. I get on Serena’s back and lean over partially to help hold Rory on her back and partially because it will make it easier for her to run faster.
She takes off, Rory struggling to remain on my breast while she runs. I try to look around, making sure no one is closing in on us while still trying to nurse him and hold both of us on her running wolf.
When the movement of her wolf makes Rory start spitting up, I have to sit up, clutching him to me so he doesn’t choke as my milk comes spilling back out of his mouth and onto my chest and shoulder.

Serena whines at me, probably because she can’t run as fast with me sitting up.
“Rory is spitting up. I can’t let him choke,” I say as she gets close to the water. “Just stop, I’ll carry him into the water.”
She does and I slide off Serena’s back before she shifts back. Now we
have one dirty shirt between the three of us.
I begin running toward the water, as Rory begins to fuss with the movement and the disruption of his meal.
“Shhh, baby boy. You have to be quiet,” I tell him.
“Nicole!” his eerie voice sends sickening shivers through my body. I see Jacqueline turn and look behind me, her eyes wide.
I rip the shirt off of me, and wrap it around Rory, shoving him at Jacqueline. “Go! Run!”
She takes him and I turn, ready to fight Camden even without my wolf. When I see him, I realize how he got out of the shackle. He had to remove his own foot. Part of me wants to vomit, and part of me wants to cheer. He may have his wolf, but he’s weak too.
I hear Jacqueline hurrying into the water behind me.
“I’m surprised to see you alive, Camden. I was sure I’d locked you in well enough that Robin would find you and kill you,” I say to him.
“You’re not as smart as you think you are, Nicole. Thank you for getting rid of your brat, though. Now I won’t have to kill him,” he says, looking over my naked body like it did back at the packhouse.

>However, now I can tell that he has no intention of waiting. If he gets
me down, he’ll rape me. I’m sure of it.
I snarl, but I know Camden realizes that Adira isn’t back yet. His disgusting smile proves that I’m right.
“I may be without a foot, Nicole, but you my sweet, are without a wolf. I’ll take my chances.”
He leaps at me, but I’m not an omega unable to protect myself. I punch Camden hard in the gut. It may not do permanent damage, but I know it hurts. I’ve sparred with Robin enough, had him push me to my limits enough to know how to fight and stay on my feet, even without my wolf.
