Chapter 426
He begins running, not as fast or as strong and he normally would, but I don’t care, he’s faster than I am and Jake and Lucas both take off toward the sound of the howl, their wolves pushing hard.
Derric lifts his head to the sky, howling to our mate that we’re coming and to hold on. Behind me, I hear paws pounding on the earth, catching up to me quickly. Derric turns and sees the rest of our friends quickly catching up. He barks at them to go, and they race past us.
‘Derric…‘
‘I can’t go any faster. I shouldn’t have even been able to pull the shift, but…‘
‘I know. Let’s just get there as fast as we can.’
By the time we arrive, there’s a full–on battle going on. My group has killed several of the other Alphas warriors and what’s left of them turns and begins running off. I let the others chase after them, Kayce’s wolf, Rodion, staying with me.

Derric begins sniffing the ground, easily finding Nikki’s scent and then her blood. He snarls, angry that someone hurt our mate and even angrier when we smell Camden’s scent. How the fuck did he find her
He also smells the scent of the other she–wolf, but there is no scent of our son. Derric becomes frantic, trying to figure out where Nikki went, where our son is, and concerned that Camden dragged her or both of

them off with him.
“Robin!” Kayee barks, getting my attention. He’s shifted into his human form and is looking at the ground. “I think she’s gone back into the river. I don’t think Camden has her.”
Derric moves to where Kayce is looking and we can smell her scent, along with the lingering scent of her blood. I was right, Adira must be silent otherwise she’d be healing, and she isn’t.
I look at Kayce, wanting to know where Camden is, but I’m not willing to risk shifting and not being strong enough to shift back. So instead, Derric leaps into the river, swimming out as the current takes him, hopefully to our mate and son.
Jacqueline
I am terrified for Nikki. Rory is fussy and there’s nothing I can do about it. She’s the one who should have gotten in the water. It’s her son, her mate looking for her, and her alliance with these packs. All I have is her name and her son. And honestly, I don’t know her mate,
but I’d assume that he’s an act first, ask questions later kind of Alpha like all the others I’ve known. And if so, Îl be dead before I’ll ever get a chance to explain what happened.
I’m the one with the strong wolf, but she sent me into the water. I felt better when it was just her and the guy with only one foot, but as I’d started floating down river, I’d heard David’s howl, followed closely by my brother’s. Why am I not surprised that Cash is here, helping Alpha David catch me. He’d tried hard to get me to agree to being David’s mate.

You’d be a Luna, Jackie. MY Luna. Wouldn’t you like being able to tell me and everyone else what to do?‘
Staying in a pack with my brother and becoming his Luna was not any kind of incentive for me. Neither man understands how awful the public claiming is for the woman. They’re stuck in the idea that if it’s not witnessed, you can’t prove that it happened.
Seriously, what’s the point of the mark on your neck then? And your scent changes, so how can they say it can’t be proven? The answer is, they could if they wanted to.
Rory starts fussing again, the sound of his cries echoing off the water. I need to find a place to get out and see if I can find a way to get this little guy fed. When I turn back, I can’t see the edge of the water that we left, we’ve gone too far.
“Hang on, little Alpha. I know it’s cold and I know I’m not your mom. But I’m going to do everything I can to keep you safe,” I say against his ear. He turns his face, trying to find a nipple to suck on. Maybe there’s a cow or goat farm around here somewhere where I can get some milk. It’s unlikely, but it’s possible.
I start swimming to the other side of the river. It takes me longer than I expected since I only have one arm to swim with and the current is very strong.
