The One He Claimed by cooper (Sophie and Hunter) novel Chapter 427

Chapter 427

When I can finally stand, I carefully make my way out of the river. I turn, looking back in the direction where Nikki was. The sun has gotten low now and I’ll need to find a place to make a fire soon. I have to keep this baby warm, and I have no dry clothes for him. I look around, lifting my nose in the air. I feel much too exposed here. While I want to wait for Nikki to see if she floats down this far, I can’t. She entrusted me with her son. I have to keep him alive and find some way

to feed him.

Nikki POV

I could have taken Camden on my own, but I assumed that these howls of the hunt were the ones after Jacqueline. As soon as they raced up and shifted, I knew I was right. The Alpha’s nose went into the air, sniffing around.

He turned, looking at his wolves. Find her.

All but one turns and begins to hunt Jacqueline’s scent.

Who are you?Camden snarls at him.

The Alpha, Alpha David, looks him over in disgust. Run along, gimpy. No one wants you here.

Camden snarls, leaping at Alpha David, but the wolf that remained,

the one who smells like a Beta, Jacqueline’s brother, shifts and grabs him by the throat.

I believe my Alpha told you to run along,” he snarls.

Fine, my mate and I will leave,” Camden snarls. I know I feel my lip

curl.

Doesn’t look like she wants to go with you, do you Luna?David asks

  1. me.

I narrow my eyes at him. How did you know I’m a Luna?

He smiles, but he’s more clever than someone like Aiden. He reminds me of my brother.

He’s an Alpha. If you’re his mate, then that makes you a Luna, right?

Not if he’s a younger brother,I say. David said my title with confidence. Has he run into Robin? I’m confident he’s looking for me. If this Alpha has seen him, then it’s possible he’s close.

The Beta turns his head, looking over my naked body. I refuse to cower or show any sign of the repulsion that I’m feeling.

I want her,the Beta says, licking his lips and making me snarl. Unfortunately, Adira still isn’t strong enough to make it sound convincing and both the Beta and David smile knowingly.

Where’s your pup? If you tell me where he is, then when we find him and my mate, I’ll let him live. I’m not a baby killer.

No, you’re not a baby killer. You’re just a rapist. Aren’t you, David,I say, stressing his name. The smile drops from his face.

So, you are with Jackie. Where is she?he growls.

-I make a point of looking around as if she might be hiding somewhere

nearby, then I shrug.

No idea.

You bitch!he says, taking a step toward me just as we hear the howl of another group of wolves.

I take the moment of distraction and punch the Alpha in his face, knocking him off his feet. Camden extends his claws and slices the Beta’s wrist, nearly severing it. I don’t waste time; I don’t have any to waste. I turn and leap into the water.

Nicole!I hear Camden shout, but the sound is muted as I swim as long as I can underwater before coming up for air. By then, the current has pulled me away from where Alpha David and his pack are. Even from here, I can hear the sounds of fighting. The other pack has arrived, and they are attacking Alpha David’s pack. Good. Maybe theyll kill each other.

I’m far behind Jacqueline. I need to catch up, knowing that my son is hungry and that he’s probably cold by now. I turn to the riverbank opposite the side that I entered and lift my nose in the air, sniffing for her scent. I have to hope that she’s heading toward our packs. It’s the only chance she has of finding protection.

I begin swimming, trying to move faster to catch up, frequently lifting. my nose to the air and sniffing. I’m not sure how long I’ve been in the water, but it’s gotten dark and I’m getting cold. I need to get out and try to find them on foot.

I make my way across the river and get out, my body shivering with

>the cold. I know that lighting a fire in these conditions isn’t ideal, and

without Adira’s body heat, my only option to warm up is to run.

I stay near the riverbank, beginning to jog. It’s slow at first, the shivering of my body so strong that it makes movement hard. But the need to find and protect my son is stronger than my body’s need for heat, so I keep going.
