“Thank you,” I say to her, holding out my hand to take the leg.

“I can bring another one for you, Alpha,” she says.

“I’ll wait…” I begin.

“Robin, you need your strength. Derric can’t get stronger if you don’t eat.”

I smile at my mate, leaning in to kiss her nose before looking back at Jacqueline.

“I’ll take a leg, too,” I tell her.

“Jacqueline, are you alright with the others?” Nikki asks her.

She looks back at our group of friends who are sitting around the fire, eating. I heard them calling their mates earlier to tell them we’d be

home tomorrow.

“They’re different from the Alphas I’ve met.”

She nods and gets me a leg off the fire. When we’re done eating, I take our bones and toss them aside. Nikki burps Rory again, then rests him against her chest before snuggling against me and falling asleep.

I lift my family up, carrying them back to the fire.

“Here, sit on this so you don’t get dirt in your ass,” Lucas says chuckling as he spreads his shirt out on the ground.

“Thanks,” I say, carefully sitting down without jostling my mate or

pup.

“How is she?” Hunter asks.

I press a kiss to my mate’s forehead. “I know my mate. She’ll stay strong until she doesn’t have to anymore. When we get home, I expect that she’ll finally let go. I’ll know better then,” I say.

“She has nightmares,” Jacqueline says softly, staring at the fire.

“Do you?” Ezra asks her.

She nods.

“We’ll keep watch tonight. You can sleep. No one will hurt you. No one will get to you,” Dutton says to her.

She looks up at Dutton. “What are the names of your twin mates?”

Jacqueline smiles too. “So, they are safe?”

“You know them?” he asks

“I do. We went to the same schools. We were all daughters of Betas, so we hung out.”

“Do you know anything about their Alpha female? Alex?” he asks, sitting forward.

“Not a lot. I left as soon as I could after they got away. I heard that when they caught Alpha Alex, her father beat her nearly to death.”

She jumps as the group of us growl at that. What kind of a father treats his daughter that way.

“Once you’re settled and comfortable, I’d like for you to come visit us. My mates want to get Alex away from her family and her mate if she was forced into a mate bond,” Dutton says, looking at us sheepishly. “I‘ m sorry I haven’t mentioned it before. I’d planned to tell you when we were together for the Alpha meeting, but that never happened.”

“We already knew,” I say, shifting my mate as she presses her face against my throat.
