Robin. There’s no question about that.”

“You know it does take two, right Nikki?” he asks, a small smile on his face.

“You know that I win all of our arguments, right Robin?” I ask, haughtily. It feels good to banter with my mate again.

This time he actually chuckles. “Goddess, I love you so much.”

“Good, because your son is done and it smells like he has a dirty diaper, so he’s all yours.”

“I’m happy to spend any time, even stinky time, with my son.”

When we stand and Robin goes to change him, I have an idea. Robin missed out on a lot with our son’s birth and the first few days while he and I were bonding. I grab my phone and order what I need.

My timing is off, but I think it’s late evening. We both need some food now that we’ve slept and then I want to have Rory seen by the doctor.

Robin turns and looks at me. “Where did you want to eat? Here or downstairs?”

I should have known he’d be connected to my mind. He always was before, but now, it seems even more important to him that he stays connected to me.

“For the record, you’re the little guy,” Robin says to Rory as he picks him up and holds him against his chest.

Robin wraps his free hand around me, and we walk downstairs to eat and be with our pack. We both still need a goodnight sleep and I’m hoping the doctor gives me a clean bill of health, because my mate and I need to reconnect. I know now that our friends weren’t exaggerating. Robin and Derric were on the verge of going feral. My mate needs to be with me as much as I need to be with him.

When we get downstairs, I see Jacqueline. I walk over to her first, making sure that she’s doing okay. It looks like she and Reese are getting along well, and I have a moment of wishing that they’d been mates, but maybe there’s a reason they aren’t. Maybe she’s not ready for that yet. Reese is a good guy. Perhaps he can help her feel comfortable in a pack again and then, if she does meet her mate, she’ll be ready to have that relationship.

After that, I walk around, gently letting my hand graze over the backs of our pack members, letting them know that their leaders are home, and they are safe. When I get to the table where Robin is sitting with our son, I see that he’s chosen a table full of omegas. They would have struggled the most with us being gone. They are the most vulnerable of our population, the weakest and therefore, they struggle the most when we, their leaders and protectors are gone.
