Then I got to show my son off to everyone again, this time actually enjoying it. Kayce, Hunter, Lucas, and I talked about being new dads and the joys that come with that. All of us are excited about being fathers, wanting to be involved in our pup’s upbringing and lives, so all of us are splitting the time to feed our pups. Hunter and Kayce even have a crib in their offices so that they can watch their young pups if their mates need a break or are busy with their pack duties. I decide to order two more cribs, one for my office and one for Nikki’s.

That discussion led to a discussion about education and the need for new buildings and cross–trained teachers from all of our packs. Over dinner, Hunter brought that up as one of our agenda items. I, of course, brought up the need to find Camden, Nikki brought up the concerns about Alpha David starting a war to get Jacqueline, and Kayce brought up the need to discuss Aiden’s pack lands and if that pack could go up next in the competition. Sophie wanted to discuss the community center, to which Kinsley brought up funding these start–up packs, Dutton added his need to go find Alexandra, the twins‘ previous Alpha female, Ezra brought up the overflow of pack members in his pack since he’s taken on the omegas from Elias, Joshua’s, and Zahn’s packs, and finally, Lucas brought up the need to find Koden.

“That’s quite a list of topics. Is two days going to be enough?” Jake

asks.

“That’s why we’re starting early tomorrow,” Kayce says.

“Well, that and we all want our chance to test Jacqueline,” Ezra says, smirking at her. I think she was nervous about it at first, but as a true Beta, she loves the challenge.

“Maybe we should make it a challenge of women against the men,” Amelia says.

“Ohhh, I love that!” Margot says.

“I’m not sure that’s a fair challenge. None of us will spar with our mates hard,” Lucas says.

“Which is why you wouldn’t be challenging your own mate. I, for one, haven’t had a good challenge in much too long. Jocelyn is good, but she’s still regaining her strength. Caleb is, well, Caleb,” Amelia says.

“I could use a good battle. We all know that none of you will injure us, but five of us have young pups and haven’t sparred in much too long. Letti and the twins are out, but if we add Jacqueline into the mix, we‘ ve got even numbers,” my mate says.

“You’re still regaining your strength, Nikki,” I say to her, already knowing she’s going to push back.

“Which is exactly why I need this sort of challenge, Robin,” she says. “I need to get stronger. I’m sure that Sophie, Allison, and Kinsley all

feel the same.

“Yep.”

“Sure do.”

“Absolutely,” the three of them say at once.

“Let it go Robin, You’re going to lose this one. We’ll set standards. As Nikki said, four of us have new, nursing mates, and even though Calvin isn’t here, Amelia is a nursing mother as well. None of us want them injured, but I know Sophie has been itching to return to sparring,” Hunter says, smiling at his mate, who gives him a beautiful smile in return.

So, the next morning, after nursing our son, Nikki and I head downstairs to spar. When we arrive, I see Dante approaching Jacqueline.

“Hey, you must be Jacqueline. I’m Dante,” he says, introducing himself. He was running patrols, adding his protection to keep the pack safe for Nikki and I yesterday, so he didn’t have a chance to meet her.

“Beta Dante?” Jacqueline asks.

“That’s me. You’ve heard of me?” I can tell Dante is pleased about this.
