Chapter 483
It’s quiet for a moment. “I wish I could tell you that Reese was a total shit and that you should steer clear of him, but I can’t. He’s a good guy, one of the best. I expect that he’ll win a pack and become an Alpha, and he’ll be good at it. You could do worse, but you can’t do much better than Reese,” he says, surprising me.
I roll over, facing him in the darkness. “And what about you? Are you one of the few that is better than Reese?”
In the starlight of the night, I see his eyes watching me. “I wouldn’t say I‘ m better than he is, but I’d say we’re pretty equal. He and I, we’re very similar in how we feel about our positions, what we want in our mates, and what we want in our future.”
“What do you want in your future, Beta?” I ask him.
Even in the dark of night, I can see and feel the intensity of his gaze on
mine.
“If you had asked me yesterday what I wanted, I’d have told you that I wanted to win my own pack, find my mate, make her my Luna, and be the best damn Alpha this world has ever seen.”
“And today? What would you say today?” I ask.
“Today, I’d say that a pack of my own means nothing if my fated mate doesn’t want that. She’s the most important person in my life and if she wants to remain a Beta, then I’ll remain a Beta. I want her to want me, accept me, to be with me so I can put my mark on her neck and let the world know that this incredible woman is mine. That’s what I want,

Chapter 483
Jacqueline. I want you. Whatever that means, however you want our life to be, I’ll be happy if you agree to be mine.”
“You would do that for me?”
“I would do anything for you.”
We spent most of the night kissing and touching, but nothing too extreme. Miles was careful not to push me too far, but when the sun begins to rise, I know that I want him, that I need him in my life and as my mate.
“Will you come cheer for me today?” he asks as we get up. We both need to get to our rooms and shower before the competition.
“And what exactly am I cheering for you to win, Beta?” I ask him teasingly.
He pulls my hips against his, watching me with the same intensity that he did all night. “Make no mistake. I already won. I won the jackpot when I smelled your sweet apricot scent. Today is just the cherry on top of the most exquisite cake I’ve ever seen. It’s not necessary, but it just adds a bit more to something that is already magnificent.”
“I’ll tell you what, Beta. You win today, win all your matches, and I’ll let you put your mark on me tonight,” I say, wanting to give him incentive since I kept him up all night.
“Consider it done,” he says, taking my mouth in a dominant kiss. From him, I don’t mind it. I welcome it, because it’s not the same type of dominance that Alpha David would have shown. This dominance is a promise, a promise of a life, of love, of happiness, and a future. A future that I desperately want.
When he pulls back, his eyes are still intense, but now they are also
possessive.

Chapter 483
“Go shower and get some food in you. You need your strength if you’re going to win today,” I tell him.
“The only strength I need is knowing that you’re mine.”
I lift up on my toes and kiss him again. “I’m yours,” I whisper.
“Maybe I should skip the competition. Maybe I should just spend the day with my new mate,” he says making me laugh.
“No. You want this and therefore, I want it for you.”
He takes my hand and starts to turn, then stops, turning back. “Why aren’t you competing? I heard about your fighting capabilities from my Alpha. He said he and the other Alphas are very impressed with you.”
I shrug. “With everything that’s gone on, I didn’t feel I was ready yet. I need to focus on myself and getting settled while preparing for Alpha David to attack if it comes to that. An Alpha needs to be focused on their pack, don’t you think?”
He steps back over to me and strokes his knuckles over my cheek. “Spoken like a true leader.”
I chuckle. “That’s what Reese said when I told him that.”
“As I said, he and I are very similar. I don’t need to be worried about you and him anymore, do I?” he asks me tentatively.
