“No. My heart belongs to you, Miles,” I say, and he smiles the most gorgeous smile I think I’ve ever seen.

“And mine belongs to you.”

I head back to my room and shower, grabbing some food that is set up for contestants to be able to take with them as they move around the competition. Then, I find the Lunas and Nikki looks at me.

“I’m surprised I don’t see a mark on your neck, Jacqueline.”

My fingers raise to my neck, to the spot where tomorrow at this time, I expect Miles‘ mark to be. “We spent the night getting to know each other. I told him that he could mark me tonight.”

She raises an eyebrow at that. “Are you trying to help Reese win this pack?” she asks, making me chuckle.

“Do you think he’ll forgive me?” I ask her. I really do care about Reese. I didn’t mean to hurt him.

“I don’t think there’s anything to forgive. He knew there was a chance you‘ d find your mate and you have. We all deserve to find our fated mates. They make us feel whole in ways that no one else can.”

“I understand that a lot better now,” I tell her.

“Reese will too, when he finds his mate. You have some time before Miles‘ first battle. You could go say hi to Reese and wish him well. He’s

competing in a few minutes.”

“Thanks, I’ll do that.”

She points me in the right direction and as I walk to where Reese is going to compete, I realize that they’ve established organized chaos here. Each ‘ring‘ where contestants will battle is monitored by an Alpha. The Alphas don’t leave their assigned ring. The contestants come to them when it’s

their turn to battle.

Reese’s first battle is with Alpha Dutton.

“You’ve got this Reese!” I say when I walk up. His head jerks in my direction and immediately goes to my neck. Then he jogs over to me.

“Hey, I didn’t expect to see you here today. I thought…”

“Miles‘ competition is in the third round. So, I thought I’d come cheer for you, if that’s okay.”

“More than okay. Are things good with the two of you?” he asks, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

“They’re really good,” I say, gently.

He nods. “I wish I could tell you he’s an ass, but he’s not. He’s a really good guy and probably my strongest competition in these contests. He’ll be a good mate to you,” he says.

“Funny, he basically said the same thing about you when I told him about… our conversation.”

“What a jerk. He had to go be all Mr. Nice Guy? How can I compete with that?” he says smiling, trying to lighten our conversation.

I smile too and then see his eyes flicker over my head. I turn and see

Miles watching us, standing back.

“I gotta go. Wish me luck,” Reese says.

“You won’t need it. But good luck,” I tell him.

He juts his chin at Miles and jogs back to the center of the ring.

I feel Miles come up behind me, sliding arm around my waist. “Everything okay?”

“It’s perfect,” I say before turning back as Alpha Dutton calls the start of

the battle.

“Get him, Reese!” I cheer.

“Holy shit! Who’s he been training with? I’ve battled Reese several times and I’ve never seen him look like this,” Miles says.

“He and I have been training all week,” I say proudly, smiling up at my

mate.

“So, it’s true then, what my Alpha said about you and your warrior skills?”

I shrug. “I guess.”

“The winner!” Alpha Dutton announces, lifting Reese’s arm in the air.

“Way to go, Reese!” I cheer as Miles whistles beside me.

Reese comes jogging over to us, smiling happily at his easy win.

“You better be glad she’s not in this competition, Miles. Your mate would be hell for either of us to defeat.”

I realize that this is Reese’s way of letting Miles know that he accepts that

“I’m beginning to see that. Alpha Dutton told me but, damn Reese, that was impressive.”

“Get her to show you some of her moves. You won’t regret it,” he says before saying goodbye and jogging off.

“All good?” I ask him.

“Yeah, everything is very good,” he says, leaning down to kiss me just as we hear a commotion from one of the other rings.

“AMELIA!” Luna Sophie says, rushing to the ring where Alpha Amelia is talking on the phone looking worried.

“What’s going on?” I ask.

“I don’t know,” Miles says, taking my hand and leading me forward. I notice that all of the Alphas, Betas, and Gammas that aren’t in battles begin moving toward Alpha Amelia’s ring.
