Chapter 499

All through the night, our pack members come up to congratulate Reese on his new status, letting him know how proud he’s made our pack.

It’s late in the night when I tell Robin that I need to get some sleep. He kisses me and our son, and I leave him to talk to Reese, finally having some one–on–one time together. I can feel that while Robin is happy for his Reese, he’s also sad about losing such a fantastic Beta. The good news is, for both of them, we’ll be right next door to each other, and we’ll be able to remain close friends.

I have no idea what time it is when my mate finally comes to bed, but he curls up around me, pulling me against his body and kissing my head before I fall back into a happy peaceful sleep.

Robin

Reese and I talked until early in the morning. I’ve known since we started these competitions that this day would come, that I’d have to say goodbye to my Beta. It’s hard, knowing that there are very few people I could have entrusted with my pack while I was out searching for Nikki. With Reese, I never once had to worry that our pack was being neglected or that he was trying to overthrow me while I was so focused on getting my mate back. And that is exactly why he deserves his own pack. He’ll make one hell of an Alpha and an ally.

Chapter 490

-Hom Ezra’s pack that have come from the packs that were overtaken. Jake and Letti stayed the night in our pack, and Lucas and Kinsley stayed the night with Kayce and Allison. We have breakfast planned this morning and Nikki set it up so that the Alphas and Lunas can sit at a table spread apart from each other and the pack members can come to them, talk with them, hear their plans for the future and then make their decisions about which pack they want to live in. I know Reese wishes that Jacqueline was sitting beside him for this, but I’m glad she found her fated mate. When Reese finally finds his, it will be worth it. He just doesn’t realize it yet.

Other than introducing the Alphas and Lunas to the pack members and letting each group know where they’ll be sitting, there isn’t much for me to do out here. Once I have them set up, Nikki and I decide to go check on Calvin and Amelia.

Dr. Caspian completed the first surgery which took nearly eight hours. Then he’d gotten some sleep before/spending most of the day yesterday in surgery again. When we arrive at the pack hospital, we search first for Dr. Caspian and Brooklyn.

When we get to the office that he’s using as a workstation, I can tell that he’s exhausted after two grueling days of surgery.

“Dr. Caspian, have you eaten this morning?” Nikki asks him gently.

“No, he has not,” Brooklyn says spiritedly as she walks in behind us with two plates of food.

“When are you due?” Nikki asks her.

“Any minute,” Brooklyn says. “It’s why your doctors are having to help Cas. I’m too far along and can’t stand on my feet that long.”

“Well, I may have missed the last part of Nikki’s pregnancy, but as a mate, I’m sure Dr. Caspian is glad that you’re not fighting him on that.”

“Oh, she did,” he says, smiling at her again.

“We didn’t fight. I pled my case,” she says, giving him a look.

“You’re right. I would never fight with you,” he says.

Before they start something that I don’t want to be a part of, my mate expertly changes the subject. “I’m assuming that you’ll need to stay here for a while to monitor Alpha Calvin?”

“Yes, and I wanted to speak to you about that. With Brooklyn so close to her delivery…”

“We’ll make sure you have a room. With Reese leaving, I may be able to put you on the Beta floor while you’re here. Nikki and I haven’t had a chance to talk about who we might get to replace Reese, so for now, that floor will be vacant,” I say.
