“You’re welcome. We’d like to see Alpha Calvin. I’m assuming Amelia is with him?”

“Yes. Your doctors helped us to set up a mini nursery so she could stay with her mate but also have her daughter nearby,” Brooklyn says.

“That’s great. Is it okay for us to go see them?” Nikki asks.

“He’s still sedated, but you can go in. I’m going to let his body rest for a day or two before I do another surgery. I’ve got the worst of it done and I don’t want to be in the middle of a surgery when my mate goes into labor,” he says, smiling at Brooklyn again.

“Have you decided on a name?” Nikki asks.

Brooklyn smiles, rubbing her stomach. “River. Cas wanted to keep with the water theme of my name since we’re having a girl.”

“A brook and a river, how perfect for you, doctor,” I say.

“I think so,” he says. This time, I take Nikki’s hand, ready to leave.

“We’ll get out of your way. If you need anything at all, please let us know. You’re welcome to stay as long as you need to,” I say.

“Thank you, Alpha. Thank you, Luna,” Dr. Caspian says as we walk

out.

–“You know, sex is supposed to help move labor along,” Nikki says.

“If that’s the case. I’d have to guess that Brooklyn will be going into labor later today.

“I was thinking the same thing,” Nikki says chuckling.

When we get to Calvin’s room, we both school our features knowing that Amelia is struggling.

Nikki knocks gently and then we open the door. Amelia looks up, looking exhausted.

“Hey,” she says, standing to come greet us.

“Hey,” Nikki says, walking over to her and wrapping her arms around Amelia. I stand aside while Nikki holds Amelia while she cries. As an

Alpha, I understand the need to remain strong when you’re in front of others, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t moments, like right now, when you can break down in a safe environment.

I step over to the bed, giving them as much privacy as I can. Even unconscious, Calvin looks terrible. His face is pale, and his legs look like there are twice the size they should be with all the metal and bandages around them.

“I’m so sorry,” Amelia says, pulling away from Nikki.

“Don’t apologize. I can’t imagine that I’d be holding myself together nearly as well as you are if it were Robin lying in that bed.”

more sense if he had gone after Hunter or Sophie. Not that I’m wishing this on anyone, it just makes no sense to me. He’s been flying under the radar since he left Aiden’s pack. Why attack Calvin? Why now?” she asks, walking over to the bed.

I smile at her. I can’t help it. She’s so different from the young woman that she was at her eighteenth birthday party.

“What?” she asks, looking from me to Nikki. Nikki is looking at me curiously as well.

“Alpha females have been sorely underestimated in our packs for far too long. Thankfully, that’s changing, and we will now have the insights of some of our most powerful Alphas,” I say, feeling my mate‘ s pride flare with my words.

“I think your questions are more than valid. Especially since the trackers didn’t find any other scents other than Koden’s, not even Camden’s. Well, not until they tracked his scent back to a little hidey- hole that he had. They’re watching it now. Camden’s scent was there, but not as fresh as Koden’s,” I growl. When I got the call from Hunter last night that the trackers found Koden’s hideout, I asked him to send some trackers to follow Camden’s scent. I’m still waiting to hear if they’ve found him. I will feel much safer once he’s dead.
