“You deserve this Reese. You’ve earned it. If you need anything at all,

let us know.” I say.

He nods and before we turn to head back to our pack, I watch him take a deep breath, square his shoulders and head to his own packhouse, looking every bit the Alpha he now is.

“He’ll be fine,” Robin says quietly, as if he’s trying to convince

himself.

“He’s going to be great, and we will not let him fail,” I say.

“No, we won’t,” Robin says, taking Rory from me and wrapping an arm around me as we walk back to our own packhouse.

“What are you working on today?” he asks me as we walk.

“Well, besides sending over food to Reese, I’m going to have to start working on the laws again by myself. I got spoiled with Jacqueline here.” I tell him.

“You should call her. Maybe she still wants to help.”

“I’m a little worried about her and Miles going up to Calvin’s pack. What if Alpha David is still after her?” I ask him.

“I would say that she’s marked now, but we both know that doesn’t always matter. I mean, it helps. But yeah, that’s a consideration that

Miles and Dutton will have to take into consideration. I was thinking that it’s a good opportunity for Dante and Miles to have some experience running a new pack. If they still decide to go for one of the three remaining packs, they’ll potentially have all new pack members and will be in an unfamiliar area and pack. I think Kayce and Dutton will agree that this is a good opportunity for both of them to see what they could be getting themselves into. And, in addition, it keeps Calvin’s pack safe, for now. We need to come up with a better solution long–term and I’ll be interested to meet this new Beta.”

“You should talk to Reese. I know he spoke to him when we were at the accident site. I liked him, but it’s obvious that he’s not yet a strong,

confident leader.”

“Hopefully having you and Reese at the Alpha meeting will make him feel a bit more comfortable. But let’s see what Kayce and Dutton say. It may be a moot point and I’m not sending anyone down those deserted roads without patrols checking them first.”

We’ve just gotten to the packhouse when howls go up, closer to Reese‘ s new pack than ours.

‘Alpha! You need to come smell this,‘ one of the patrols says in the pack link.

“What is it?” Ezra asks, rushing out the back door, Margot right

behind him. Letti and Jake aren’t far behind them.

patrols. You need to get out here.‘

Robin turns to me, kissing me quickly.

“Ezra, come with me. My patrols found something,” he says, just as his phone rings. He looks at it and hands it to me. “Have Reese meet us out there.”

He leaps and shifts then howls that he’s on his way. Ezra, Margot, and Jake follow right behind him.

I answer the phone while I watch the others racing off.

“Reese, they caught the scent of someone, but I don’t know who it is. Robin, Ezra, Margot, and Jake are on their way. Robin said to meet them out there.”

“Thanks, Luna.”

I ignore the title and hang up.

‘Double the patrols,’ I say in the pack link, knowing that without Robin and Reese, someone needs to take charge.

Warriors start racing past me, shifting and heading either foward Reese’s pack or our pack’s patrols.

“Luna, what’s going on?” Harrison, our Gamma, asks, jogging over.

“I’m not sure,” I say, watching in the direction that Robin and the others went. “The patrols found a scent and suggested doubling patrols. Robin is on his way there now,” I say, keeping connected to

my mate.

The moment Detric arrives, I catch the scents through him.

‘Nikki!‘ Robin says frantically in the mind link, but I’m already pulling the phone to my car.

“Hey Robin.” Dutton answers.

“Dutton, it’s Nikki. We have a problem. Alpha David and Beta Cash have been here. They know where Jacqueline is.”

I’d sent out a group of warriors to search for Caleb when we realized that he was missing in action. I don’t trust him and now that Amelia is distracted with Calvin, I wouldn’t put it past Caleb to try and take over her pack. Jocelyn is stronger than she was, but I’m not sure if she’s strong enough to maintain the leadership of the pack if Caleb challenges her. However, since Caleb didn’t return home, it’s even more concerning to me. It makes me wonder if he’s our mole.
