When the patrols first alerted me, I assumed it was Caleb’s scent that they found, but when they said to increase the patrols, I knew it was more than that. And when I raced up to where they were, I smelled them. Alpha David and Beta Cash.

“Son of a bitch,” Ezra growls as I look around, assessing the scents. Jake shifts as well, but Margot stays in wolf form, walking around and sniffing the area, lifting her nose up to the trees where Alpha David’s and Beta Cash’s scents are stronger.

“Report,” I bark, irritated that Caleb’s scent is mixed with these two. What the fuck is he up to?

“Alpha, on your order, the warriors and I began searching for Gamma Caleb,” he says, just as Sid, Reese’s wolf, comes rushing up. Reese shifts and begins looking around.

“Uh, since the pack isn’t really established, we took the liberty of going onto Alpha Reese’s pack lands to get Gamma Caleb’s scent and follow it from there,” he says, watching Reese’s reaction.

Reese glances at him, then at me before responding. “I intend to maintain open borders between our packs, Jared. It’s no problem,” he

says.

“Thanks, Be…Alpha,” Jared says before continuing.

“What was your assessment of those trails?” I ask.

“We think he was looking for something,” Jared says.

“Something or someone?” Reese asks. He and I have always worked well in tandem, and it shows.

“Most likely someone, B…Alpha,” Jared says, catching himself more quickly this time. It looks like all of us have some adjustments to make with losing Reese in our pack.

“Does it seem that he arrived along with Alpha David and Beta Cash?”

Jake asks them.

“I’m assuming those are the two scents that we didn’t recognize?” Jared asks.

“Yes. That is the Alpha that is hunting Beta Jacqueline and her brother who is assisting his Alpha,” I say.

Margot’s wolf, Reyna, chuffs. I don’t have to have a mind link to know what she’s asking. “Yes, Nikki is calling Dutton to warn them.”

I watch as she lifts up onto her back legs to sniff in the trees before turning to Ezra and whining. He walks over and leaps up, grabbing the lowest branch, pulling himself up into the tree. He sniffs around, finding where they were sitting then turns, looking around.

“Son of a bitch!” he says again, looking down at us. “They had a direct line of sight to the final competition. They would have seen

Jacqueline.”

-Hook back at Jared. “What is your assessment of the three of them

arriving here together?”

“I don’t think they came together, Alpha. The other two scents, Alpha David and Beta Cash came from that direction,” he says, pointing behind the tree. “Gamma Caleb’s scent came from this direction,” he says, pointing to the left of the tree. “It seems like he was making a loop around the pack in his search.”

“Did you find Camden’s scent at all?” Reese asks.

“No. Alpha.”

Reese looks at me. “You think he’s working with Camden? That’s who first comes to mind that would be out here. If he is still searching for Luna…for Nikki, then he’d have been out here.”

“He’d be a fool to get this close again,” I growl.

“But Caleb’s a fool. We all agree on that. So, he could have assumed that Camden was out here watching Nikki, looking for an opportunity to get her again. Which would explain why he was out here and who he was looking for,” Jake says.

“But instead, he found Alpha David and Beta Cash,” Ezra says, dropping out of the tree. It occurs to me that these two, once Alpha and Beta, still have the same tandem thought processes that Reese and I have. It’s good to know that that, at least, won’t change.

Reyna barks again, having moved away from the tree. Ezra goes over to where she’s standing and crouches on the ground. I notice he takes the opportunity to slide his fingers through her fur.

Chapter 503

“All three of their scents seem to go this way,” Ezra says as the rest of

us walk over..

“Yes,” Jared says. “While we don’t believe they arrived together, we do believe that they left together.”

‘Dutton is sending warriors to track them,‘ Nikki says in the mind link.

‘Good, have them meet us out here. It looks like Caleb has now joined forces with them. Alert Jocelyn and Amelia’that they need to take Caleb into custody if he returns to their pack. They should not trust him.‘

She pauses but leaves the mind link open.

‘No scent of Camden,’ I say, pretty sure that’s the question she doesn’t want to ask. I feel her relief through the bond.
