“Dutton is sending warriors. I want to track both scents. I want to know where Alpha David and his Beta came from but more importantly, we need to know where they went. We need to make sure they aren’t going after Jacqueline. Now that they have Caleb, they will know of any weaknesses in the defenses of those three packs. Right now, Amelia’s pack is the weakest, with Amelia out and Caleb turned traitor,” I say.

“How is Jocelyn?” Ezra asks.

“I’m not sure. I haven’t seen her in a while, but I understand that she is getting stronger.

I reach out in the mind link to Nikki again. ‘Can you reach out to Lucas and Dutton again and talk to them about making sure Amelia’s borders are secure? We’re not sure how strong Jocelyn is and now she‘ s on her own. They also need to seal their own border weaknesses to ensure Alpha David and Beta Cash can’t get to Jacqueline.’

‘Already done, my love.‘

I smile. It feels so good having my other half back. ‘Goddess, I love you.”

‘Not nearly as much as I love you,’ she says, just as I hear the pounding of paws headed our way.

-wolf, is ahead of the others. As he races up, he shifts quickly.

“Show me.” he growls.

He wasn’t with us when we found Nikki, so he doesn’t know the

scents of these two like we do.

“You need to be careful Miles. I know she’s your mate, but if you run in half–cocked, you could lose them and this is the best chance we have of finding them,” Ezra cautions him.

“Take a breath, my friend. We’ll all here to help you. No one is getting Jacqueline,” Reese says to him, putting a hand on his shoulder and getting his attention.

Miles takes a deep breath and nods.

“What’s the plan?” he asks.

I send a few of my warriors on a scouting mission to Alpha David’s pack, and the rest I assign with Dutton’s warriors to track Alpha David

and Beta Cash.

“We’re about a day behind, but we’ll catch them,” Miles says.

“When you find them, keep eyes on them, but don’t attack. Not unless you’re sure that you can take them out or it can’t be helped,” I say. “Call for backup and we’ll be there,” I tell him.

“Thank you, all of you.”

“That’s what we do. We protect each other,” Jake says to him.

Chapter 504

Miles nods. “I really hope I get to be a part of this Alpha group soon.”

“Next time, you won’t be distracted by a new mate bond, my friend. And you already defeated Dante once,” Reese tells him.

“Yeah, there’s that. Okay, let’s go,” he says, shifting and leading the pack of warriors on the hunt for Caleb, Alpha David, and Beta Cash.

Nikki

Before hanging up with Alpha Dutton, I’d talked to him about

securing his borders. I knew he’d do it anyway, but I also told him that we needed to ensure that Amelia’s borders were secure.

“I’ll call Beta Jocelyn,” Dutton said, but I could hear him barking orders to his warriors, increasing patrols, and I heard Miles‘ howl of anger as he and his hunting party left the pack.

“I’ll call her. I need to let Alpha Amelia know as well, so I can do both at the same time. Then, I’ll call Alpha Lucas and let him know what’s going on so he can make sure his borders are secure.”

“Thanks, Nikki. Do we think that Caleb brought them here?” he asks.

“It doesn’t sound like it, but we can’t be sure of anything right now. I would guess that he’s our mole. As a ranked member, he would have insider information about our plans and if he’s working with Koden or Camden…”

“Or both. You need to make sure your borders are secure as well, Nikki. Is Robin returning to the pack or going on the hunt?” he asks.

“I get the impression that he’s going to let Miles lead the hunt, but we‘ Il see once Miles gets here, and they’ve talked.”

“Let me know if you need anything at all.”

“Thanks Dutton.” I’ve been walking to the hospital while I was on the phone, and when I hang up, I step inside to find Amelia. As if she needs anything else to worry about.

I sigh, and not finding her in Calvin’s room. I check the nursery. There, she’s playing with Athena. She looks exhausted and I hate that I have to be the one to tell her this.

I sit on the floor where she’s got a foam pad and blanket and smile at Athena who is sitting up on her own now.
