She closes her eyes, taking another deep breath: “I don’t know. But I’m going to find out.”

“Would you like to call her together? I can answer any questions she has and let her know that I’ve already spoken to Alpha Dutton. He’s increasing patrols on his pack lands, and I’m going to call Alpha Lucas and request the same. They’ll help defend your pack, Amelia, you know that. You’re not alone in this.”

She stares at me for a long moment. “I had no idea this alliance was going to be this important so quickly. And fucking Caleb! I’m going to rip his balls off for trying to take advantage of me and weaken the other packs. I knew he was a problem, but I didn’t think it extended past my pack. Yeah, let’s call Jocelyn. I need to know if she’s prepared, mentally and physically, for this.”

“How are you holding up?” Jocelyn asks her, obviously concerned. She looks at me and I give her a gentle smile. She’s not doing well.

“What did that piece of shit do now?” she growls. Amelia smiles at that. It doesn’t last long, but at least she and Jocelyn have a strong enough bond that Jocelyn can make her Alpha smile when she needs it.

“It looks like he might be working with Alpha David and Beta Cash, and possibly Koden and Camden.”

“That little fucker! I knew I should have ripped his balls off,” she growls. “Do Alpha Dutton and Beta Miles know? Is that the howl I heard earlier?” she asks.

“Yes. That was Miles heading out to meet with Robin, Reese, Ezra, and Margot. Our trackers were following Caleb’s scent since he disappeared, and they led him to where Alpha David and Beta Cash were apparently watching the competition.”

“And since Miles is mated to Jacqueline and he was in the final battle. they would have seen her.”

“Correct,” Amelia says. I’m surprised that Jocelyn is so well informed. She and Amelia must talk a lot and have good, open communication. Either that, or Jocelyn is doing one hell of a job of keeping herself informed while her Alpha is out of touch with what’s going on. Either
