“Are you sure, Alpha?” Jocelyn asks, her concern for Amelia still apparent.

“Yeah. I could use a night in my own bed too. I’ll get packed up here and head home. If Caleb shows his ugly face, throw him in the cells,” she says.

“Will do. See you soon, Alpha.”

When she hangs up, I stand, picking Athena up with me. “You’ll be back soon, so just take what you need. We’ll keep your room for you here along with everything that you need for Athena,” I tell her.

“Thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank me. You’d do it for any of us as well.”

She looks at the wall that separates this room from Calvin’s. “Hopefully, Calvin will be strong enough that Dr. Caspian can wake him soon, and I can take him home. I need to talk to his Beta again. While Calvin is out, I need to make sure that pack remains secure as well. And Caleb knows Calvin is out. He may have even had a part in what happened to him,” she growls.

“Let’s wait to see what Miles and Dante say when they return. I think they’ve decided to send them during our meeting this weekend. Once we know more, we’ll have a better idea of just how much assistance Beta Anthony needs.”

She scrubs her face again. “Is it always like this? Is it always this hard being an Alpha?” she asks quietly.

“You have so much going on right now, Amelia. And on top of all that, you’re the first female Alpha that we’ve ever had, or at least in many generations. Is being an Alpha hard? Absolutely. But it’s harder for you, because you’re fighting more than just normal everyday Alpha problems. Your mate is in a medically induced coma, your Gamma betrayed you, and your Beta is still gaining strength after her own extensive surgeries. On top of all that, you have a young child. I know it may not seem like it, but you can do this Amelia. And you’re not alone. All of us will help you in any way that you need.”

“Thanks, Nikki,” she says, coming over to get Athena. When she does, I pull her into a hug, Athena joining in and wrapping her little arms around me and Amelia, making both of us laugh.

I help her get her things and pack up, saying goodbye, just as I hear Derric howl that he’s back.

absolutely perfect. When Alpha Dutton had returned and he’d had time to settle our Lunas, he’d done a quick ceremony to bring Jacqueline into the pack. I could feel her instant relief that our pack isn’t anything like her old pack. There’s strength and confidence in this pack, love and respect as well. I have the feeling those things are missing in Alpha David’s pack.

The pack instantly fell in love with her and that was before Dutton put her in charge of warrior training her very first morning.

I had watched her as she started the training, like she was born for this. My heart felt like it would burst with pride that this incredible woman is mine. Rather than bask in the glory of my adoration, my mate had turned to me and raised an eyebrow. “That includes you, Beta. Get your ass out here and get moving.”

“Yes ma’am,” I said as the other warriors chuckled.

For the first time in a long time, I was sore after warrior training. It was fantastic. I’d been showing Jacqueline around the pack when Dutton called us to his office. He doesn’t usually bark orders, so I knew something had happened.

When we got to his office, I watched him pace while he was on the phone. My Lunas were there, and they got up, coming to stand on either side of Jacqueline, holding her hands as if she would need support. Marric started growling, both of us knowing we weren’t going to like what our Alpha told us.

“Get some warriors. Get to Reese’s pack. They’ve caught the scent of Alpha David and Beta Cash,” he says.
