I realize quickly that Caleb isn’t a great fighter. Either of us could have taken Caleb down, but between the two of us, he doesn’t stand a

chance. I can still hear fighting going on around us, still hear the snarling, fierce battle between Miles and Cash, but I stay focused on

Caleb.

When Dante’s wolf clamps down on Caleb’s flank, Triton makes his move. Just as Caleb’s wolf turns to snap at Dante, Triton bites down on the back of his neck. The wolf yelps, then relaxes into a submissive state as Triton’s teeth puncture his neck, his canines brushing against his spinal cord.

At that same moment, I hear a yelp of pain that is quickly cut off before the howl of victory. Still holding Caleb’s wolf in our mouth, I turn to see that Miles has defeated Cash. What’s left of the warriors

around us begin retreating.

‘Chase them off our pack lands but don’t follow. I need to see how badly our pack is injured,’ I tell my warriors. I felt a couple of tethers break during the battle, but only a couple. I feel good that our warriors were able to hold their own against another pack.

Dante seems to recognize what’s going on and he watches as Alpha David’s warriors begin retreating. Then he shifts and looks at me.

“I’m assuming there’s a reason you haven’t killed this piece of shit?”

Dante says, a menacing smile on his face as he grabs the wolf by his throat.

“SHIFT!” he snarls at Caleb. Instantly, he begins to shift. I step back and pull the shift, standing to look around while Dante holds Caleb.

“I want to give Alpha Amelia the opportunity to kill him in front of his pack. He betrayed her and them. I didn’t want to take the choice from her,” I say, looking down at Caleb. He’s a mess, covered in bite marks and gashes.

Dante looks up at me, smiling. “You know Beta, I like you more and more. I think you’re going to fit in really well with our group.”

“Thanks,” I say as Miles comes jogging over.

“Are we good here? Why isn’t he dead?”

Dante nods his head at me. “Anthony wants to give Alpha Amelia the chance to kill him in front of their pack.”

Miles turns and smiles at me. It’s a gruesome sight since his face and chest are covered in blood but his words are kind. “I knew I liked you for a reason.

“Beta Cash?” I ask, nodding at the dead wolf behind him.

“Yeah. I need to call Jacqueline. I know she said if it were him or me, she wanted it to be me, but he was still her brother.”

“Has anyone seen Alpha Robin?” Dante asks, standing and putting his foot on Caleb’s throat to keep him down.

“I heard the howl of the hunt. I assumed that was him,” I say.

Miles looks around. “I don’t see him anywhere. I’m guessing he found Camden or got his scent and gave chase. Did you lose any warriors?” Miles asks, looking at the dead strewn around the pack lands.

“Two, maybe three. Most of these are Alpha David’s wolves,” I say, looking around.

“Let’s deal with this trash,” Dante says, pointing to Caleb, “and then we can start the clean-up. You need to call Jacqueline,” he says to Miles. “You need to call Amelia,” he says to me. “And I need to call

Luna Nikki and let her know her mate is after Camden and we’re not

sure where he is.”

“Let’s do it,” Miles says.

As I look around, feeling pretty good about how I protected Alpha Calvin’s pack, I feel even better about the friendships that seem to be developing between me and these other Betas. They’re good men, good allies. And allies are always good to have.
