It had taken longer than I expected for Nikki to return after meeting with Allison, Reese, Jake, and Letti. While I know Camden is gone, and I know that Reese would never let anything happen to Nikki, it still makes me nervous not knowing what was happening or why it was taking her so long.

I smile. “I could have, but I’m pretty sure the pack already knows wh sneak upstairs early every night,” I say, hearing the snickers of the pack members around us.

“Don’t encourage him!” Nikki grumbles.

“I only need one person to encourage me,” I say, leaning in to run my nose over her jaw. “So, are you ready to work on that pup, my mate?” I growl.

My mate pulls out of my arms and looks at me, a challenge in her eyes I have no idea what she’s going to do or say, but I know that it’s going to be all Nikki and I’m going to love it.

“Well, Alpha, I’ve got news for you. And since you didn’t feel the need to keep our pup-making private, I guess I don’t need to keep my news private either,” she says.

“Oh yeah, what news is that, my love?” I ask as the room goes quiet 1 watch as my mate turns in a circle, looking at everyone in the room

I feel like time stands still.

“What?” I ask as the cheers go up all around the room.

I lift Nikki up and she wraps her legs around my waist. “You all are going to have to fend for yourselves tonight. I need to celebrate with my mate! We’re having another pup!” I shout as the pack members howl and whistle while I carry my mate upstairs and proceed to show her just how happy she’s made me.

I wake up early the next morning, ready to start the day. I go down to start warrior training. I never gave much thought to leading warrior training in the past. I was the Beta. Gamma Harrison and I lead warrior training when Robin wasn’t able to. He set the expectation for training, and we made our warriors into strong fighters. Now, it’s my job to make sure that my warriors are strong fighters. Since I don’t know any other way, I go with what I know, training this group of fighters the way I’ve always trained. However, I also realize that this won’t work forever. If I do what I’ve always done and don’t change up my fighting style, I’ll end up just like Calvin

At the end of training, an idea comes to me. I’m still trying to figure out how long I can go without assigning a Beta or Gamma, and maybe this will help me figure it out.

“I think I’d like to start teaching alternate fighting techniques. I can still teach the ones that I know, but we’ve all learned different techniques in the packs we came from. If we want to be stronger together, we need to learn from each other. Since I don’t know the techniques that you do, I’d like to start trading off, having a different person with a different fighting style step forward every day to teach us all something new. I don’t intend for this pack to do things based solely on my way of thinking. I believe that a true pack learns together. and becomes stronger because of it. I’m going out to the community area again today to continue working with Alpha Jake and Alpha Lucas, but when I get back tonight, let’s talk about it over dinner. I’d like your input and the input of any young mothers who are also warriors and would like a say or would like to participate. So, if your mates are interested, tell them to bring their ideas to the dining hall tonight.”

I can feel the impact of my words on the pack members. I get showered and changed and head out to the community area When I get there, I see that Lucas has already arrived

“Damn, you guys got a lot done yesterday,” he says, looking around.

“We had Letti, Nikki, and Allison here to help. They gave us their ideas and we just started marking out the spots where we think it would be good to put the different areas,” I tell him as Jake comes jogging up

“Hey guys!” Jake greets us.

The rest of the day, we talk through our plan for beginning the dévelopment of the community center. We decide that the walking/ running trail will be the easiest, since it’s just creating a pathway that everyone can use in either form. From there, we’ll need to begin piping the water and electric to the mountain so that we can have the splash park. We can do that while we work on the trails and also start clearing the land for the picnic and playground area.

We each discuss how many of our pack members we can spare on any given day and Lucas also suggests opening it up to our warriors, most likely single warriors, who may want to make some extra money by working after their own patrol shifts.

By the time we’re done, we have a plan to present to the other Alphas and Lunas. All three of us are excited to get started on the groundbreaking, not only because it will help us find our packs, but it will also give us more security and a place for our pack members to go and relax with their families
