Chapter 210
–Theo–
Garry Walter had remained paralysed despite all efforts to save him.
Unfortunately, all the leads we chased went nowhere.

A few of the men we captured didn’t even make it to interrogation. They died before we could get anything out of them, taking their own lives.
Whoever was behind this had prepared for the possibility of failure.
And to top it off, the council was breathing down my neck, seeing what happened to Garry.
They wanted answers about Garry. Wanted to know why one of their own was lying in a bed like a corpse with open eyes.
Thankfully, they had no idea how it happened, and I was saved.
And for now, that ignorance was the only thing keeping me out of a courtroom.
But I know it won’t last, and I had to make it quick.
I ran a hand through my hair, pacing on the balcony.
Everything was going wrong, and I felt like I was losing grip on everything.
Kaia was gone, and the only man who could’ve led me to her was locked inside his own body.
The attackers were dead, and I could do nothing about it.
My chest tightened with immense pain and grudges, holding the railing.
I stopped pacing, and I closed my eyes.
In my chest, I felt a faint pull, tugging at me.
The pain in my chest increased, and I could barely breathe without groaning.
My wolf stirred and restlessly tried to surge out, howling in pain.
It was Kaia; she was in pain, and I was feeling it through the mate bond.
The pain was so severe, my breath came out in gasps, and tears filled my eyes.
If I were feeling like this, I wonder what Kaia was going through.
That monster was torturing her, and I couldn’t do anything to help.
What kind of a mate am I if I can’t save my Luna from her abductors?
Suddenly, the pain stopped, replaced by something else.
It was something new and burning.

My eyes snapped open.
“She’s alive,” I muttered.
I let out a sigh of relief, then my chest reeked with rage.
Because if I could feel this, it meant she wasn’t just alive, she was suffering.
My jaw clenched.
Seething with pain and helplessness, I left my balcony.
I was heading out of the holding wing when a scent hit me. cold, and annoyingly familiar.
Lucien stood ahead of me.
I didn’t even try to hide the irritation that rolled through me.

“If you want trouble,” I growled without looking at him, “I don’t have time. Pick another day to try and piss me off.”
“Then it’s a good thing I didn’t come for trouble, Theo”
His voice was calmer than I expected. He wasn’t trying to make me angry, and it didn’t sound like he was out for trouble either.
I stopped walking and turned.
Lucien stood there with his hands in his pockets. His shoulders tensed when he locked eyes with me.
“I came to apologise,” he said.
I stared at him, and he held my gaze.
“For what, exactly?” I asked. “Because the list is long.”
“For everything.” He said, calmly. I waited for him to break out of character. “For the way I treated Kaia and how I treated you all these years. For being a blind, arrogant bastard.”
I blinked. Lucien rarely apologised ever, and this might be another of his silly moments, and I wasn’t in the mood for it.
“I’m not in the mood for your jokes, Lucien,” I said, and attempted to walk away. “You really think I’ll take your word for it?”
“I swear, this is not a prank, and I’ll never do that to you. I understand now,” he continued quietly, “what you’re going through. Kaia’s kidnapping, and the goddess knows where she is. I can’t imagine the pain you’re going through and the insanity it puts in your head.”
He swallowed, looked down for a second, then back up.
“And I needed to say this while I still had the guts: I’m sorry, Theo.”
I crossed my arms. “Why the sudden change of heart?”
“Because I know what it’s like to lose something before you realise its worth.”
His voice cracked, and he looked as if he was about to cry.

Lucien had been a lot of things- proud, and annoying, but vulnerable wasn’t one of them, until now.
“If I had a second chance,” he muttered, “I… I won’t waste it.”
My chest tightened painfully.
I couldn’t handle anyone speaking about second chances right now.
Not when Kaia was out there somewhere, scared and alone.
“Lucien,” I said, voice low, “I don’t have space for anything except finding her.”
“I know,” he nodded, stepping aside instead of blocking my path like he normally would. “That’s why I’m here. I want to help.”
I froze. Lucien’s offering of help was like the moon offering sunlight-wrong and surprising.
“Why?” I asked carefully.
He exhaled slowly. “Because she deserves better than what she got from all of us. And because you’re going to tear the continent apart looking for her, and I’d rather be on your side than in your way.”
“Fine,” I said eventually. “You want to help? Keep up. But don’t think I’ve forgiven you for everything you’ve done”
“I know, and I’m willing to do anything to earn your forgiveness and trust,” Lucien said, surprising me even more.
“Do you have anything to offer me? I mean, in getting my mate back,” I said.
A faint, humourless smile tugged at Lucien’s lips.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
Lucien and I walked through the strategy wing in silence.
It felt awkward because this was the first time Lucien and I had worked together without throwing punches.
He kept glancing at me, as if debating when or not to speak.
“What is it? You’ve been staring like you stole a secret.” Finally, I snapped.
“I wasn’t sure if you were in the right state of mind to hear this.” He exhaled sharply.
“Lucien,” I growled, “either talk or get out of my way.”
He stopped walking.
Then he pulled something from the inner pocket of his jacket, a thin leather folder, burned on one side.
He handed it to me.
“What is this?”
“A clue,” he said grimly. “I found it when I went to assess the demolished packs in the deep East. The ones everyone keeps dismissing as rogue attacks.”
I opened the folder, and my blood froze.

My vision blurred with rage.
“Where did you get this?” I asked.
Lucien’s expression hardened.

“One of the elders there knew he was dying. He shoved this into my hands and said, “The Nightshade girl was taken, this is who has her. He died before I could ask anything else.”
Nightshade girl, the missing daughter of Alpha Mathew.
Lucien stepped closer.
“Theo… the same symbol appeared in the ruins of all the attacked packs. It wasn’t random violence. It’s a coordinated terror network. They’re not after land or resources.”
He looked at me, something like dread flickering in his eyes.
“They are going after powerful people”
My heart stopped.
“They took Kaia for a reason,” he added quietly. “A reason bigger than any of us realised.”
Kaia wasn’t just targeted; she was selected.
I slammed the folder shut. “Why didn’t you say this earlier?”
Lucien raised a brow. “Because until ten minutes ago, you would have ripped my throat out before listening.”
I took a breath, wiping my face.
‘Fine,” I said. “We work together.”
‘About time,” Lucien smirked
For the first time in years, we weren’t enemies. Just soldiers with the same target.
We spread the photos across the table. Lucien tapped the skull symbol in the centre.
This group, whoever they are, always leave a message. A calling card.” He pointed at the burn pattern on one wall in a photo. “This isn’t fire damage. It’s poison”
My stomach twisted.
‘Poison,” I mouthed.
He nodded. “The same type rumoured to be used in the deep East underworld. It was Hard to make and illegal too”
‘And Alpha Mathew found the same poison the day Kaia went missing…” I muttered under my breath
Lucien froze. “What?”
I clenched my jaw. “Nothing solid yet.”
We kept working and cross-referencing every pattern.

Hours passed. Neither of us spoke unnecessarily.
“Theo.” Until Lucien leaned back suddenly.
“What?”
“This group… they never take prisoners.” He said, “Except one.”
My heart was hammered painfully.
“Who?” I whispered.

“A Nightshade. I believe they kidnapped Alpha Mathew’s little daughter, Melissa, all those years ago.” Lucien said, eyes locked on mine. “And now, Kaia is the second person they’ve kidnapped.
We’re going to find her,” Lucien said quietly. “No matter where they hide her.”
I nodded once. My aura surged, cracking the glass table beneath us.
Lucien swallowed but didn’t back away.
“Then let’s start with their last known base,” he said. “I’ve already marked it.”
We had just finished mapping out the possible routes when my phone rang.
I glanced at the screen.
Alpha Mathew, and my chest tightened.
‘Alpha-” I answered immediately.
