He squinted at the man and gasped.
It was Callahan Langley! The supposed casualty from all the breaking news reports!
They both looked completely exhausted and travel-worn, but they were undeniably, miraculously alive.
Sean stood glued to the floor, his brain short-circuiting.
*What the hell is going on? Was the news completely fake? Is this a prank? Am I seeing ghosts?*
He watched dumbly as another officer guided Leilani and Callahan toward the precinct's main exit.
That snapped him out of it.
*I need to tell Captain Jenkins!*
Fumbling frantically, he abandoned his quest for water, whipped out his phone, and nearly plowed into a coworker as he sprinted down the hall.
He dialed Ethan Jenkins's number.
It rang several times before Ethan's tired voice came through. "Sean. What is it?"
Sean whisper-yelled, breathless. "You will never guess who I just saw!"
Ethan was packing up his desk, barely paying attention. "Who?"
"Leilani! Dr. Sloan!"
"Your childhood friend!" Sean was practically vibrating. "The news said she died in Northern Myanor! But she's right here! She's alive!"
"And she's with a guy—tall, intense aura. It's Callahan Langley!"
