"He looked like he was heartbroken!"
Letty couldn't help but laugh. "Dad, since when did you become a relationship expert?"
"Hmph! I've been around the block a few more times than you have!" Dante retorted. "That boy's sour face is the spitting image of me whenever I used to fight with your mother!"
Letty shook her head, trying to placate him. "It's really not that. Callahan's just been under a lot of pressure, and Leilani is doing fine. She messaged me just the other day saying she was busy with a case."
She paused, deliberately changing the subject. "By the way, didn't you say you wanted to try Leilani's cooking? Once she's not so busy, I'll have her come over and make something for you."
The diversion worked. Dante's eyes lit up. "Really? That girl can cook?"
"Of course," Letty smiled. "Leilani told me she's been wanting to experiment with some restorative herbal soups. When she perfects a recipe, we'll have her come show us her skills. And if she’s too busy to cook herself, she can just guide me. Would you like me to make it for you then?"
"Yes! Of course!" Dante said, finally relieved. "As long as they didn't fight… I knew it. Leilani is such a wonderful girl. If Callahan dares to mistreat her, I'll be the first one to set him straight!"
Letty smiled and helped him sit down. "Don't you worry. Callahan adores her."
Dante nodded, then another thought occurred to him. "But the company… is the trouble serious? Do I need to step in?"
Ethan leaned against his bike, his gaze drifting to a lit window in the distance. He seemed hesitant, but after a moment, he spoke. "Leilani, you know All Souls' Day is in a couple of days, right?"
Leilani paused, then answered softly, "Yeah."
"I was planning to visit my grandmother and my mom's graves…" Ethan’s voice grew deeper. "Would you… want to come with me?"
As if afraid she would refuse, he quickly added, "Of course, it's just a thought. I'm sure my mom and grandmother would be happy to know that fate brought us back together after all these years. But if you're busy, it's no big deal."
Leilani froze for a second, the images of a kind old woman and a gentle young mother flashing in her mind. Remembering the kindness Nancy and Maggie had always shown her, she readily agreed. "Okay. I'll go with you to visit them."
