Chapter 107
Chapter 107
Hannah’s gaze swept over Barnaby from head to toe, as if she could see right through his clothes to the chiseled body underneath. Her eyes finally settled on his face, so handsome it was almost criminal
“You want a present? Fine, but first, send me ten of your photos so I can swap them for some medicine,” she said.
Barnaby just stared at him, not saying a word.
“Make sure they’re like the ones you sent me by mistake last time,” Hannah added.
Barnaby was even more speechless.
Barnaby had actually been curious about how Hannah would snap his pics, but he never thought she’d just straight-up ask for them.
“Nope. I don’t do selfies,” Barnaby replied flatly.
“Didn’t you send some to someone else last time? By accident, even,” Hannah said, eyeing him with obvious suspicion.
“Are you jealous?” Barnaby asked, a sly grin tugging at his lips.
Hannah remembered what had happened between him and Daisy, and that irritation she’d finally gotten over came rushing back.
“Don’t change the subject! The medicine is for you, so hurry up,” she pressed him, not even blinking.
‘Man, she’s got a mouth on her, Barnaby thought.
Barnaby opened up his photo album and handed her the phone.
“No, really, I don’t have any. Last time, I didn’t send them to anyone else by accident. I just picked the wrong one to send you. I meant to send you a different pic. Only you get to see my private photos,” he said.
Hannah wanted to say she wasn’t interested, but her eyes still couldn’t help drifting to his phone screen.
His album only had two photos.
One was that abs pic from last time, and the other was a selfie showing off his drop-dead gorgeous face, with some text underneath, but the thumbnail was way too tiny to make out the words.
Hannah lost her words.
Not buying it, she reached out and swiped through the album herself to check.
No joke, there really were just two photos in his album!
Hannah was speechless.
“Who’d you make a deal with? What kind of medicine are you swapping for?” Barnaby asked, though he already had a pretty good idea.
Hannah didn’t want to spill too much, her lashes fluttering down. “Just some weirdo. I’m trading for medicine that might just keep you alive.”
Barnaby just stared at him, not saying a word.
“Is it the Obsidian Pearl? Word is, the Nameless Healer’s got it now,” Barnaby pressed.

Barnaby watched Hannah, searching her face for any reaction.
She kept her face perfectly blank, but when he mentioned the Nameless Healer, her lashes flickered almost imperceptibly She hid it well, but Barnaby didn’t miss it.
Hannah let out a cold laugh. “You’re really overestimating yourself
He seriously thinks ten private photos could get him the Obsidian Pearl? Hannah thought.
If it were that easy, she wouldn’t have had to go to the Scepter House auction, drop 8.8 billion, and agree to three conditions just to get it.
Now she was flat broke, couldn’t even afford the medicine or cover the rest of the payment.
Barnaby couldn’t help but smile. Hannah still wasn’t ready to come clean, but he wasn’t about to call her out on it.
“Cut the crap. Snap ten pics of yourself and send them to me!” Hannah said, tossing the phone back at him before turning to head upstairs to bed.
Barnaby grabbed her hand. “Come on, I’m still sick. I can’t do it myself. How about you take them for me?”
Hannah froze for a second, surprised. His hand was big, fingers long and slender. Even with the heat blasting in the room. his skin was still cool to the touch, a clear sign his body was still full of coldness.
She turned around and saw Barnaby sprawled out on the couch, his slender, well-defined fingers teasing at his shirt buttons, popping them open one by one.
He hadn’t even bothered to button up properly in the first place, so his shirt hung open at the neck, showing off those killer collarbones.
In just a few seconds, he’d undone two more buttons, exposing his solid chest and a whole lot of smooth, honey-toned skin. The black shirt just made him look even more off-limits and tempting.
Hannah’s eyes couldn’t help but trail after his left hand as it moved lower, and suddenly, the sexy muscle lines from that photo popped into her head, along with the memory of the time they’d tumbled onto the bed together by accident.
“Those rock-hard muscles… Hannah thought, her thoughts drifting.
Right as Barnaby’s fingers went for the fourth button, Hannah whipped around and caught his hand mid-motion, stopping him from undoing any more.
“Let Ronin do it tomorrow instead,” she muttered, her ears burning with embarrassment.
‘Who’s he trying to tempt in the middle of the night?’ Hannah thought.
“Sorry, not just anyone gets to see this body,” Barnaby replied, a hint of smugness in his voice.
Hannah rolled her eyes. “Wait, didn’t you have to shower with the whole squad back in the army?”
‘And hasn’t Ronin been the one helping you clean up these past few nights?’ Hannah thought.
“That was ages ago. I always showered last, so there was never anyone around,” Barnaby replied.
As he spoke, Barnaby sat up and leaned in close, his voice dropping to a low whisper right by her ear. “Want to see it again?”
Hannah’s breath hitched.
It wasn’t the first time she’d seen his body. She’d accidentally caught a glimpse before, but back then, she hadn’t felt this kind of flutter in her chest.

Ever since she got that photo, she just couldn’t get his ripped body out of her mind.
“Want to touch it?” Barnaby teased, his voice low and husky.
Barnaby gazed at her profile, so close he could count her lashes. Her skin was smooth as cream, her lashes thick and curled like little fans, and her dark eyes were shining brightly.
Hannah was speechless for a moment.
It wasn’t until she felt his breath brushing against her ear that Hannah suddenly realized just how close they were.
She instinctively tried to pull away, but Barnaby was faster. He caught her hand before she could move and pressed it right against his chest.
Hannah’s ears instantly flushed red, but she didn’t pull her hand back.
With a body like his, seriously, who could resist that kind of temptation?
Besides, she’d been wanting to touch him for a long time.
She swallowed nervously, bracing one foot on the couch, her hand, pale and soft as a flower petal, resting right on his chest.
His muscles were solid, every line and curve perfectly defined, not too bulky, just the way she liked it.
But his skin was still cool to the touch, and there was that fierce-looking bullet scar on his left chest, marring his otherwise flawless body.
She remembered the scars on his back and side. Everywhere on him bore marks that looked like they could’ve been fatal. The fact that he was still alive was honestly a miracle.
Just thinking about all the times he got hurt made Hannah’s heart ache.
“It must’ve hurt a lot, right?” she asked, gently tracing the scar on his chest.
Barnaby’s heart trembled at her touch, his breath growing heavier. “It’s fine. I’m numb to it now.”
Hannah’s heart ached even more. ‘How many times does someone have to be seriously hurt before they become numb to pain?’ she wondered.
‘If he’d left the Thole family with Grandma and me back then, maybe his whole life would’ve been different,’ Hannah thought.
Just thinking about the Thole family made a flash of coldness flicker in her eyes.
Barnaby noticed the subtle shift in her expression and said softly, “It’s getting late. I’ll tell you about these scars another time.”
Hannah snapped back to reality, suddenly realizing her pose was totally like a rogue girl making moves on a good boy. She quickly pulled her hand away, jumped up, ears burning bright red, and hurried upstairs.
Barnaby’s voice floated up after her. “Go to bed early. Those photos you’re after, we’ll take them this weekend. I’ll get myself ready.”.
Hannah lost her words.
‘Since when are they my photos?’ Hannah thought, fuming.
‘Seriously, it’s for his treatment! I’m just swapping them for medicine, not because I want them!’ she grumbled to herself.

And seriously, what kind of prep does he even need for some photos?’ Hannah fumed to herself.
Back in her room, after getting ready for bed and curling up under the covers, Hannah could still feel his touch tingling on her fingertips. ‘Ugh, why does it still feel so real?’ she thought, her heart fluttering all over again.
It took her ages to finally drift off, only to end up having a dream so steamy she couldn’t even admit it to herself. The next morning, she bolted awake, heart pounding, cheeks burning, totally mortified by her own subconscious.
