Chapter 121
Chapter 121
Hannah spent two nights at the Scott family’s place and only returned to Skycrest House on the weekend.
With Barnaby out, she took the chance to sort through the photos she’d taken last week.
The camera had already been shipped back from Deer City. She plugged it into her computer and started exporting the photos, only to realize Barnaby had snapped quite a few of her too.
She really liked one of them, a profile shot of her sitting at the desk, nose-to-nose with the little piggy standing on the desk, head held high. She sent it to her phone and set it as her WhatsApp profile picture.
Then she picked out ten candid shots of Barnaby, cropped his face out of each one, logged into the Nameless Healer’s WhatsApp on her computer, and sent them to the Master of the Scepter House.
Nameless Healer: [Got the photos you wanted. Check your inbox.]
Nameless Healer: [So, when am I getting that ginseng?]
On the other side of the screen.
Barnaby was sitting in the CEO’s office at Ascent Ventures, actually bothering to deal with company emails for once.
Ascent Ventures was just a small branch under the Thole Group. When Barnaby got out of the military two years ago, the head of the Thole family put him in charge here.
In the past two years, he could count on one hand the number of times he’d actually come to the office.
Most of the time, he just dumped everything on his VP, John Perez, and only bothered to show up when someone from Thole Group headquarters came over for a routine audit.
Just then, his phone on the desk buzzed with a WhatsApp notification. Barnaby switched to the Nameless Healer account on his computer, and ten photos came pouring in.
They were all candid shots of him, but in every single one, his head was just cut out of the frame, no matter how the photo was composed.
Barnaby was lost in words.
Barnaby couldn’t help but doubt the girl’s taste…
But even so, he still sent back a reply, pretending nothing was wrong.
Master of the Scepter House: [Pretty good pics.]
After a moment’s thought, he sent over the details.
Master of the Scepter House: [2 PM, Room 808, 4th floor, Deaxen Hotel.]
Not long after he sent the message, his computer’s firewall blared a warning. Someone was hacking in.
Barnaby’s eyes narrowed dangerously. Someone had actually broken through his firewall.
‘Finally, a worthy opponent. It’s been ages since I had some real fun, Barnaby thought.
He interlaced his long, slender fingers, cracked his knuckles, rolled his neck, then his hands flew across the keyboard.
On the other side of the screen.

Hannah was staring at the lines of code racing across her monitor, her hands suddenly pausing mid-typing
She’d just cracked his firewall, only to get blocked right away.
Then, a big red alert popped up: her own firewall was down, and a virus was coming in hot
No way, they’re fighting back? Hannah thought, her eyes narrowing in excitement.

Hannah’s eyes narrowed with a spark of challenge, her fingers flying over the keyboard as she slammed the door on the hacker’s intrusion.
The two went back and forth in a cyber duel, switching between attack and defense for several intense rounds, neither could gain the upper hand.
It had been ages since Hannah faced someone this formidable; the last time was with Shadow.
Her curiosity about the Master of the Scepter House only grew stronger.
At first, she just had her doubts about the deal and wanted to figure out who she was really dealing with.
The other side agreed so easily, it made Hannah suspect they might already know who she really was.
Thinking it over, the biggest issue was that even though she’d changed her voice at the Scepter House, it was still obvious she
was a woman.
But when she accidentally sent a photo of Barnaby on WhatsApp, the other person didn’t even blink, just went along with the deal like it was nothing.
With such an obvious difference in gender, any normal person would find it odd, but they didn’t react at all. That’s what made it so strange.
But Hannah never expected her opponent to be a hacker too.
The sound of keys filled the room as they traded blows for what felt like forever. The longer the battle dragged on, the faster the pace, and the tougher the challenge.
Her eyes flicked over the screen, watching as lines of code and pop-up windows flooded in. The virus hit first, giving her opponent the upper hand. She could tell they were a notch above her.
Her focus sharpened, and her fingers flew across the keyboard at breakneck speed.
Suddenly, her opponent just went totally silent, no more attacks, no more defense.
Hannah finally spotted an opening, cleared out the virus they’d thrown at her, and ramped up her attack, about to break through, when out of nowhere, her screen went pitch black. ‘What the-?’
Her laptop was dead. Out of battery.
She was sure she’d plugged it in, but when she traced the cord, there was the little piggy sprawled out on the floor, having the time of its life gnawing on the power plug. ‘Seriously?’ Hannah thought.
Hannah was left speechless.
She got up, snatched the plug away, and tapped the little piggy on the nose with her finger.
“Suddenly, I totally get why your dad always wants to make you into stew,” Hannah said.
The little piggy was utterly shocked.

‘Oh no, my little mistress is getting corrupted! the piggy panicked.
The little piggy scampered off in a hurry.
Hannah was speechless.
Meanwhile, Barnaby was flying across the keyboard, just about to get the jump on his opponent and trace their network ID, when a sudden commotion broke out in the hallway. The office door swung open and two people strode in.
Out front was a teenager, probably fifteen or sixteen, with a man in his mid-twenties following close behind.
They were from Thole Group HQ.
The man was Dustin Thole, Barnaby’s fourth brother’s son, who worked at Thole Group HQ and was in charge of auditing the subsidiary accounts.
The teenager was Kyson Thole, originally Barnaby’s eldest brother’s son, but adopted by Iris Thole.
Smart and lively, Kyson always knew how to charm the Thole family patriarch, and both Iris and the old man absolutely adored him.
Barnaby’s hands froze mid-typing. He looked up, his hawk-like eyes sweeping over the newcomers, a chill flickering beneath his gaze.
Ronin followed in after them, looking sheepish. “Sorry, Barnaby, I tried to keep them out…”
“Why’d you even try to stop us? Barnaby, are you goofing off at work again?” Kyson teased, bouncing right up to the desk and craning his neck to check out the computer screen.
Kyson hopped over, curiosity all over his face as he tried to sneak a peek at the monitor.
Barnaby hit a key to switch screens, but the monitor ended up showing the private shots he’d opened earlier and hadn’t had time to close.
Kyson’s eyes went wide when he saw the photos, looking absolutely stunned.
“Whoa- Barnaby, checking out spicy pics at work? And they’re all dudes! Wait, are you into guys now?” Kyson teased, grinning mischievously.
Dustin’s eyes sparkled, and he shot Barnaby a whole new look.
“Guess that explains why you’re still single, huh?” Dustin joked, smirking.
Ronin was in shock.
‘Barnaby, what are you even looking at? If they see this, the misunderstanding is going to be huge!’ Ronin thought, panicking.
Barnaby’s face went stone cold. He parted his lips and said coldly, “Didn’t anyone teach you how to behave? Get out and try again.”
Dustin and Kyson froze, totally caught off guard by Barnaby suddenly pulling rank.
Dustin was actually a year older than Barnaby, but in terms of seniority in the family, he was a whole generation beneath him. That always rubbed Dustin the wrong way.
Especially since Barnaby was an illegitimate child. Even after being brought back into the Thole family and added to the

family register, his name didn’t even get the family’s generational title.
65 vouchons
And now, they were sent from HQ to audit the branch, and Barnaby was still acting like this. He didn’t even bother to show them any respect.
