Chapter 122
“Please,” Ronin said, opening the door and gesturing for them to leave.
Even though Dustin was pissed, he could feel the storm brewing around Barnaby. He was about to blow.
If Barnaby really wanted to make a fuss, they were the ones who barged in without thinking.
ughers
Dustin didn’t want to give Barnaby any ammo, so he forced a smile. “You’re right, Barnaby. Kyson, let’s go. We’ll wait for Barnaby in the conference room.”
Kyson looked annoyed, but he got the message.
Letting them leave was fine, but if they tried to knock and come back in, that was not happening.
Everyone would just head straight to the conference room and keep it strictly business. Plus, Barnaby had better not let them catch even the tiniest mistake.
“Oh.” Kyson replied lazily, following Dustin out.
As soon as the door closed, Barnaby switched back to the code page, only to find the data had suddenly gone blank, the other party had shut down their computer.
He’d been just a step away from catching their info, but they got away just in time.
‘Interesting. Next time, they won’t be so lucky, Barnaby thought.
He switched back to WhatsApp, sent a message to Axel, logged out, shut down his computer, and headed out.
At Skycrest House.
Hannah was digging into her takeout, still brooding over that network address she couldn’t crack this morning. Later, she did a quick search on her phone and realized it was actually Ascent Ventures’ company network.
‘Wait, the Master of the Scepter House is at Ascent Ventures?’ Hannah’s eyes went wide in disbelief.
If she was remembering right, Ascent Ventures was a small subsidiary under the Thole Group, now run by Barnaby. The Master of the Scepter House had scheduled a meeting for 2 PM at the Imperial Deaxen Hotel, which was just a stone’s throw from Ascent Ventures.
Suddenly, her phone rang, snapping her out of her thoughts. It was Van calling.
“Raven, I’m in Brynlock with Oliver to record a show. Got time to grab lunch? And thanks again for curing Oliver’s illness,” Van said.
Van had followed Hannah’s prescription and had Oliver take the medicine for a week. Not only did his gastroenteritis clear up, but even his stubborn stomach problems were gone.
He was genuinely impressed, so now he wanted to ask Hannah for help with another patient.
“I’ve got stuff to do this afternoon, so let’s skip lunch. If you really want to pay me back, I need a driver. You can help me out,” Hannah said.
“Sure, just send me the address,” Van replied without hesitation.
Hannah sent him the address, tossed her takeout containers, grabbed her gear, and headed out.

Chapter 122
A
At 1:30 PM. Van pulled up to the address Itannah had sent him
He spotted someone in a long black cloak and a mask, about 5 feet 7 inches, and couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman.
Just as he was about to call Hannah, the person opened the back door and slid into the car.
Van glanced back, uncertain, and called out, “Boss?”
Hannah pulled off her mask. “Take me to the Deaxen Hotel”
“You look like you’re about to pull off a heist or something.” Van joked.
Hannah thought for a second, then smirked, “Something like that.”
The Master of the Scepter House had agreed way too easily. Hannah couldn’t shake the feeling it might be a setup.
If it was, she’d just have to play it by ear.
That’s why she needed a driver to watch her back.
Van was baffled.
“Wait, for real, Boss? I was just messing around. You’re actually serious?!” he blurted out.
Van got so flustered he jerked the wheel, earning an angry honk from the car next to them. He hurried to get them back on track.
“Eyes on the road. Less talking, more driving,” Hannah ordered.
Van just couldn’t shut up. “So I get roped into being your sidekick out of nowhere, and you’re not even gonna tell me the plan?”
“Just wait for me at the entrance,” Hannah said, not bothering to explain.
Twenty minutes later, Van pulled up to the entrance of the Deaxen Hotel.
Hannah put her mask back on and got out of the car.
With lunch hour over, the place was pretty chill. She hopped into the elevator and hit the button for the fourth floor.
The fourth floor was where the hotel’s bar and entertainment spots were, usually buzzing at night, but right now, it was practically deserted.
As Hannah stepped out of the elevator, she saw two men leaving the bar up ahead. She quickly ducked behind a pillar, making herself scarce.
As their footsteps got closer, she could hear them talking.
“No wonder Barnaby’s already 24 and still hasn’t had a girlfriend. Turns out it’s not about waiting to inherit Great-Grandpa’s shares. He just swings the other way,” Kyson said.
“Kyson, keep that to yourself when we’re back at the family estate,” Dustin warned.
They walked over to the elevator and waited for it to arrive.
“What’s the big deal? Why can’t I say it?” Kyson shot back, clearly annoyed.
“He’s the one with issues. He can’t even control himself at work, always sneaking peeks at that stuff. Who knows what kind of freaky stuff he gets up to behind closed doors? I’ve heard the gay scene is wild and messed up. Just thinking about it grosses

The out.
“And then he has the nerve to call us out for bad manners, like we’re the ones who ruined his little porn show? Seriously, he’s always been a weirdo!”
Dustin’s expression darkened as he listened.
“Come on, it’s the 21st century. Liking guys isn’t weird anymore. If that’s Barnaby’s thing. just let him do his thing, Dustin
said.
Kyson glanced at Dustin in surprise, not expecting him to defend Barnaby.
But then he realized why.
He nodded. “Yeah, makes sense. If Barnaby likes men, there’s no way he’ll ever get married in this country. No marriage means he can’t inherit Great-Grandpa’s shares. That’s perfect for us, one less competitor to worry about.”/
Dustin just stayed silent, his eyes unreadable, lost in his own thoughts.
Kyson saw Dustin still keeping quiet, so he pressed on, “No wonder Grandpa keeps trying to pair Barnaby with the Reese heiress, but it’s just not happening.
“When we get back, I should let Grandpa know Barnaby’s into guys. Seriously, if we’re gonna hook up the Reese heiress with someone, might as well set her up with you instead…”
Just then, the elevator doors slid open, and the two of them stepped inside.
As the doors slid shut, Hannah stepped out from behind the pillar.
She recognized both of them.
Back when she was still living with the Thole family, she and Dustin were both from the same generation. She used to call Dustin her big brother.
For as long as she could remember, Dustin loved to mess with her. And whenever Barnaby stepped in to defend her, Dustin would always find a way to pin the blame on Barnaby instead.
Back then, Barnaby was hot-headed and would just throw a punch at Dustin. Dustin, never able to win, would go running to the patriarch to snitch. Every single time, Barnaby ended up kneeling in the ancestral hall, writing out the family rules as punishment.
As for Kyson, Hannah had never met him in person. He was adopted by Iris after she left the Thole family, since Iris was unable to have children.
Word was, both Iris and the current patriarch doted on him.
Barnaby, the one Kyson kept mentioning, was Barnaby himself.
‘Wait, Barnaby likes guys?’ Hannah’s brain short-circuited.
She replayed all his shameless flirting and teasing over the past few days. ‘So he was just messing around because he’s into men, and I’m nothing but his little niece to him?’
“That’s why he never thought twice about it. He didn’t see anything wrong,’ she realized, feeling even more confused.
Out of nowhere, her heart clenched with a weird, bitter taste she couldn’t quite name.
“Can I help you with anything?” a waiter asked, stepping up.

Hannah snapped back to reality. “Where’s Room 808?”
The waiter’s attitude instantly shifted to respectful. “Please, follow me.”
Room 808 wasn’t open to the public. Anyone asking for it had to be a VIP
Ja bevonunters
Hannah followed the waiter to the VIP suite, opened the door and stepped inside. There was a burly man in a black suit waiting for her.
She recognized him instantly. It was the bodyguard who had escorted her to see the Master of the Scepter House last time.
“Where’s your Master?” Hannah looked around. He was the only one there.
