The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 123

Chapter 123

Chapter 123

“No, Master asked me to give this to you.” Axel said.

He shid the velvet box on the table toward 11annah, studying her closely.

There had been news reports saying the Nameless Healer was Daisy, the eldest daughter of the Reese family. Azel had mer Daisy at the Scepter House, but her vibe was nothing like the Nameless Healer he’d seen there before.

The person standing in front of him was definitely the Nameless Healer he’d met last time.

If Barnaby weren’t watching from the private room right now, Axel would’ve rushed over and ripped off the Nameless Healer’s mask.

He was dying to know what kind of face was hiding behind that mask.

He couldn’t believe Barnaby just gave away his treasured century-old ginseng, totally ignoring all the protests from the Scepter House.

Hannah glanced at the velvet box, then at Axel, before stepping forward to open it.

Inside lay a flawless ginseng root. She picked it up and examined it closely, confirming it was a genuine, rare specimen nearly two hundred years old.

It was the real deal, no tricks.

She’d actually managed to trade ten of Barnaby’s private photos for a century-old ginseng that was worth a fortune and impossible to find. That just made Hannah even more curious about who the Master of the Scepter House really was.

“I’ll be taking the ginseng then, thanks,” Hannah said, placing it back into the velvet box.

Axel replied, “Be my guest.”

Hannah picked up the velvet box, and Axel didn’t even react.

She turned to leave, her hand on the doorknob, but suddenly glanced back and asked, “Random question, your Master, is he into guys?”

Axel could only stare, lost for words.

‘No freaking way!’ Axel thought.

Inside the private room, Barnaby, who was watching through the one-way glass, was utterly speechless.

“Wait, are you a crossdresser?!” Axel suddenly blurted out, as if he’d just had a mind-blowing revelation.

Hannah froze. She honestly hadn’t even considered that.

Suddenly, she felt Axel lunging at her from behind. She dodged to the side.

Axel’s hand shot straight for her mask, but Hannah blocked it with the velvet box. With her other hand, she twisted her fingers, and two needles slipped between them, which she flicked at him.

Axel immediately raised his arm to block, but the needles pierced through his suit and jabbed into his arm. It didn’t hurt, but a wave of numbness shot through him.

Hannah took the chance, flung open the door, grabbed the velvet box, and bolted.

Chapter 123

At the same time, the door to the private room behind Axel swung open, and Barnaby stepped out with a dark look on his face.

Axel spun around, dropped to one knee, and clasped his fist in apology. Sorry, Barnaby. I just couldn’t help myself. I had to see her real face.”

“Get lost! Run ten laps around Brynlock! Barnaby snapped.

Hannah bolted out of the room. The hallway was empty, so she slipped down the emergency stairs to the first floor.

Outside, Van had only been waiting for about half an hour when he saw Hannah hurry out, yank open the back door, and jump in. He immediately started the car and merged into traffic.

Hannah pulled off her mask, glanced back, and let out a sigh of relief when she saw no one was chasing them.

“Boss, you actually went and pulled off a heist?” Van exclaimed, shooting a look at the velvet box beside Hannah through the rearview mirror.

He couldn’t help but gasp, eyes wide in disbelief.

‘Ravenos’s always all action, no hesitation, just gets it done,’ Van thought.

Ever since he leaked the price Raven set for Gemma in the hacker circles, everyone started calling her “Ravenos”. She was even more hardcore than her mentor, Shadow.

Who would’ve thought Hannah was just as ruthless in real life?

‘She really just walked in and grabbed it?’ Van thought, still reeling from shock.

“Just focus on driving,” Hannah said, giving him the address of a villa out in the suburbs. Then she leaned back, closed her eyes, and started replaying everything that had just happened.

Axel had tried to pull off her mask. She wasn’t sure if that was his own move or if the Master of the Scepter House had put him up to it, But word was, the Scepter House played by the book, nobody would dare cross the Master.

If it really was the Master’s order, did that mean he had no clue who she really was?

Was the whole deal just because he was thirsting over Barnaby’s private photos?

‘Could he really think I’m a crossdresser?’ Hannah thought, speechless at the absurdity.

Then she remembered what Kyson had said about Barnaby being gay. Her eyes fluttered open, a little dazed, and she glanced at Van, who was driving.

“Piggy, let me ask you something,” Hannah said.

Without taking his eyes off the road, Van replied, “Go ahead.”

“So, what’s it actually like, you know, being into guys?” Hannah asked.

Van thought it over. “Well, it depends. Some people are just born this way, like me, I’ve never been interested in girls, not even as a kid.

“Liking guys just feels natural, like how straight folks are into the opposite sex. Some people just do it for the excitement, I guess. Honestly, I’m not an expert. Why are you suddenly asking me this?”

Instead of answering, Hannah fired back with a question of her own. “Do you guys ever collect racy photos of men?”

Chapter 128

Van choked on his own spit, never expected Hannah to be so straightforward, not even blushing.

“If the guy’s a total knockout, sure,” he confessed, then quickly added. “But don’t you dare tell Oliver

Hannah was at a loss for words.

If that’s really the case, then I guess that totally explains the Master of the Scepter House’s quirky tastes, Hannah thought.

“So, what about girls? Do you ever get super close to them, like, live together or something?” Hannah asked.

“Yeah, if one’s tight with someone, for sure. I actually lived with a girl for over five years. She saved my life, and she was pregnant at the time.

When she had her baby, I was the one looking after her. Her kid calls me Dad, but it’s just honorary. We were like a réal family, and I always saw her as my little sister,” Van said.

His voice got lighter, and one could tell those were some of his happiest days.

Van’s boyish face was misleading; he appeared to be barely twenty, but was in fact thirty years old.

Hannah couldn’t help but imagine Barnaby in Van’s story. Her lashes drooped as she glanced at the velvet box next to her, and honestly, her feelings were all over the place.

She didn’t really get love, no one ever taught her about it. The only person who’d ever mentioned feelings was Shadow, her mysterious mentor she’d never even met. He always said, “Men are all pigs, just stay away from love.”

Back then, she didn’t really care. Love just felt way out of her league.

But now, she had no clue what was going on with her. Every time she remembered Barnaby just saw her as his little niece, her chest felt tight, like she couldn’t breathe.

Van noticed Hannah suddenly went quiet. He glanced at her in the rearview mirror, saw her weird expression, and remembered all those questions she’d just fired off about being gay.

He blurted out, “Boss, don’t tell me you ran into some scumbag guy?”

‘Seriously? No way in hell!’ Van thought, totally stunned.

‘Wait, is she talking about Barnaby?’ he wondered.

Van pictured Barnaby’s outrageously handsome face, if that guy was gay, he’d be a total legend in the community.

As a gay man, Van was certain that Barnaby didn’t swing that way.

‘The way Barnaby looked at Hannah was all soft and protective, and one could see the possessiveness in his eyes. If he’s not into her, I’ll eat my hat!’ Van thought to himself.

“Just pull over here,” Hannah said, snapping out of her thoughts as she realized they’d arrived at their destination.

This was a quiet, health-focused villa area out in the suburbs, not much foot traffic. Van stopped the car, and Hannah slipped her mask back on before getting out.

“Boss…” Van called out, still itching to gossip, but she was already gone.
