The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 133

Chapter 133

Chapter 133

During lunch. Barnaby got a call and left, so Hannah didn’t have to run into him.

After lunch, Hannah got a call from Ethan Clarke.

“Ms. Carter, Gemma Baker just made bail,” Ethan said.

Hannah narrowed her eyes. “Who bailed her out?”

‘So they’ve finally made a move, Hannah thought.

“Winston Baker showed up this morning with Dustin Thole and Kyson Thole, plus a lawyer. They just bailed her out, Ethan said.

Dustin is the son of the fourth son of the Thole family. Kyson is the adopted son of Iris Thole, who is the daughter of the current head of the Thole family.

‘So Gemma’s real support in the Thole family is the current head and the fourth son of the Thole family?’ Hannah mused.

“Why did Tristan suddenly relent?” Hannah thought, her mind drifting to Tristan.

‘He was the one keeping the Baker family in check before. So who got him to let up now?’ Hannah wondered.

“You haven’t seen the news? Mr. Pierce just got into some trouble,” Ethan said, sounding surprised.

Hannah quickly checked the news, and the headline was: [Pierce Family Heir Hospitalized After Scandal.]

She clicked in and speed-read the whole article.

Tristan had messed with the wrong person, he tried hitting on a social media influencer, but she was actually the young wife of the Holt family’s head. The Holts were a big deal down south, so word got back to Tristan’s grandfather, General Pierce.

General Pierce was known for his temper and couldn’t abide his grandson chasing after a married woman, so he gave Tristan a serious thrashing.

From the report, Tristan looked like he’d been roughed up pretty badly. With his own mess to deal with, there was no way he’d have time to mess with her now.

“Alright, thanks for handling this, Ethan,” Hannah said.

“No worries. I didn’t really do much, but if there’s any news on the case, I’ll keep you posted,” Ethan replied.

“Okay, thanks,” Hannah said.

Just as Hannah hung up, an anonymous email landed in her inbox.

It was from some random account, and the subject line said: “Hannah, you have to read this.”

‘Me?’ Hannah blinked, her heart skipping a beat.

‘Yvette?’ she wondered, her mind racing.

‘Wait, isn’t she supposed to be dead?’ Hannah thought, her heart pounding.

Hannah opened the email right away.

[Hannah, I didn’t mean to ghost you. My mom and I got kidnapped, and we barely managed to break out. We’re still

running. I can’t talk about my dad right now, I’m so sorry.]

[If you’re reading this and something’s already happened to me, please go to the Banyan Grove in Linxire, Southmart, dig under the fourth tree. There’s a box. Give it to the cops. Please, Hannah, I’m really counting on you, Yvette]

After reading the email, Hannah checked the class group’s contact list and found Yvette’s number, it matched the one that sent the email.

She sent the number to Van.

Raven: [Can you check the login locations for this account from September until now?]

Piggy: [Got it.]

Piggy: [Quick question, is this super urgent? I’m actually out on a date right now, so…]

Hannah was speechless.

Raven: [Go ahead and enjoy your date.]

“Hannah, wanna go soak in the hot springs again?” Felicity walked over and asked.

“No, I’ve got something to take care of. You guys go ahead,” Hannah said, putting her phone away. She headed out to the front desk to borrow a computer.

Using the webmail interface, Hannah checked the email’s backend and discovered that Yvette had set it to send automatically more than a month ago. The IP address pointed straight to Linxire, Southmart.

‘So Yvette and her mom had already made it out there by then. Did she already sense trouble coming and set up this timed email as a backup plan?’ Hannah thought, her mind racing.

Hannah took a screenshot of the email and sent it to Ethan. He called her right away.

“This is all the proof we need, Yvette and her mom didn’t die by accident!” Ethan sounded excited. “But we have to be sure Yvette was the one who scheduled it.”

“Yeah, I’ve already got someone checking the login locations,” Hannah said. “I’m going to check out that place myself.”

“I’ll go with you. It’s not safe for you to go by yourself. Drop me your location, I’ll head over and pick you up,” Ethan said.

“Sure,” Hannah replied.

Meanwhile, over at Baker Villa.

Gemma stepped out of the car, bare-faced and looking way more worn out than usual.

She stood in the Baker Villa’s yard, taking a deep breath, trying to steady herself.

‘I’m finally out,’ Gemma thought, a wave of relief washing over her.

“Mom, come inside, it’s freezing,” Jasper said as he came out and helped Gemma toward the house.

“No rush,” Gemma brushed him off, turning to the pine trees at the edge of the yard. She shouted, “Come out!”

The butler hurried over and yanked a paparazzo out from behind the trees. The guy was bundled up in a black puffer jacket, clutching his camera like his life depended on it.

“If you’re going to take pictures, do it openly. Sneaking around like this, I’ll sue you for violating my image rights!” Germa snapped.

The paparazzo looked shocked, barely believing what he heard. Still, he nervously snapped a few quick photos before taking

off.

“Mom, why’d you let him snap those photos?” Jasper asked, baffled. He tried to chase after the paparazzo, but the guy had already disappeared.

“It’s fine. I need someone to get the news out,” Gemma replied.

On the way back, Winston had already told her everything about the Baker family’s situation. She was angry, but deep down, she couldn’t help feeling important again.

‘See? The Baker family really can’t function without me,’ Gemma thought.

“But…” Jasper started, but stopped himself.

Gemma didn’t pay him any attention. She went inside, freshened up to wash off the gloom, slipped into her expensive clothes, indulged in gourmet delicacies, and put on flawless makeup. In no time, she was back to her old self, every inch the high-society lady.

“Get the car ready. I’m going with you to Ascent Ventures again,” Gemma said to Winston.

‘Anything involving the Thole family has to go through me,’ she thought to herself.

But Winston didn’t budge. He paused, then said, “Gemma, you’re not allowed to leave the house.”

They had only managed to bail her out for the moment.

This was only a temporary reprieve. Unless Hannah dropped the charges of framing and bribery, and, more importantly, until the truth about Yvette and her mother’s fate emerged, Gemma was going nowhere. She was essentially under house

arrest.

“What?” Gemma’s face darkened. “What is Iris playing at?”

This so-called bail is just moving my prison from one place to another!’ Gemma fumed.

“Iris said this is all she could manage,” Winston explained.

Securing Gemma’s release on bail, if only temporarily, was a matter of saving face for the Baker family in the business world.

“Bullshit!” Gemma snapped. “I refuse to believe they can actually keep me locked up!”

Still fuming, she stomped out, ready to prove them wrong, but froze when she saw two uniformed military police posted at the villa’s gate.

Seeing her, one of them stepped forward, blocking the gate. “Sorry, ma’am, you’re not allowed to leave the premises.”

Gemma’s eyes flicked to the guns at their sides. ‘No way I’m messing with that,’ she thought, scowling as she stomped back inside.

She holed up in the study and tried calling Iris, but nobody picked up.

She dialed five times before Iris finally answered, her voice slow and almost bored. “Auntie Gemma, what is it? Already out, huh?”

Hearing that tone, Gemma felt her blood boiling. ‘She’s totally leaving me hanging on purpose, just to make me sweat,’

But Iris was from the main Thole family. Even if she politely called Gemma “cousin,” her status as the Thole family’s heiress was way above Gemma’s, no contest.

Gemma could only grit her teeth and hold it in.
