The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143

If Barnaby had been able to hold back and take Hannah down easily last time, this time she was in full fight- or-flight mode. Her fighting power was off the charts, and her nonstop lethal attacks meant he couldn’t afford to hold back at all.

What’s more, Barnaby noticed that the harder he pushed, the fiercer Hannah became. Her strikes hit even harder, her speed never slowing down. It was like she was a machine, only getting more intense with every

clash.

This couldn’t go on. If she kept up this sudden, all-out assault, she’d end up collapsing from sheer exhaustion.

He had to find a way to make her stop.

Meanwhile, Magnus, Ethan, and Vincent were stunned, shining their flashlights on the fight so everyone could see. It had been ages since they’d witnessed a real-life throwdown this intense.

With looks and skills to match, Barnaby and Hannah were way more entertaining than any action flick loaded with fake stunts. The guys couldn’t tear their eyes away, they were totally hooked.

Magnus even pulled out his phone to record the whole thing, already planning to show it off to the crew back at the base.

He always knew Barnaby was a legend, but seeing Hannah go head-to-head with him for so long, and only getting wilder, was a total shock.

Sure, Hannah was acting a little strange, but her raw power was unreal. No wonder Barnaby was interested in her. Watching those two together? That was what one called a powerhouse duo.

He thought, ‘Better never get on these two’s bad side. If they join forces, no regular person could ever handle

it.’

Just as the three were getting into the show, Barnaby’s attacks became noticeably weaker.

Vincent couldn’t help but ask, “Is Mr. Thole running out of steam?”

“Come on, a guy never says he’s out of juice,” Magnus joked.

“He’s doing it on purpose,” Ethan said, catching on to Barnaby’s plan.

His attacks seemed to weaken, and he deliberately left a weak spot open. Hannah didn’t hesitate, she went straight for it.

But Barnaby was ready; he pushed off the tree trunk with one foot, flipped backward, landed behind her, and delivered a sharp karate chop to the back of her neck.

Hannah’s body jerked to a halt, her blood-stained dagger clattering to the ground as she went limp and crumpled.

Barnaby caught her instantly, holding her tightly in his arms.

Only then did Barnaby realize Hannah was burning up with fever, her limbs kept twitching, a clear sign her muscles had been pushed way past their limit.

Looking at her exhausted face, hair matted to her skin with blood and sweat, lips cracked from dehydration, Barnaby felt a stab of pain in his chest, his gaze growing heavy with regret.

Barnaby’s chest tightened with regret as he gently wiped the blood from her face. His voice was barely a whisper. “Baby, I’m sorry. I was too late. I wasn’t there when you needed me most.”

Just like that, the fight was over, leaving the three spectators totally unsatisfied. They were this close to clapping and calling for a rematch.

Magnus saved the video, thinking Barnaby’s final backflip was insanely cool. But that karate chop? ‘Man, it looked so harsh, it made me wince just watching it,’ he thought to himself.

‘How could he hit her that hard? She’s not just delicate… she’s a gorgeous girl!’

“Did I invite you here for a show?” Barnaby shot them a frosty glare, snapping them out of it. The three jolted and rushed to their tasks, one started making calls, another began cleaning up.

“Barnaby, what should we do with those kidnappers?” Magnus asked.

“After we find out who’s pulling the strings, leave them in the mountains to keep the wolves company,” Barnaby replied coldly.

With that, Barnaby scooped Hannah up in his arms and strode toward the helicopter, his steps steady, his face dark and brooding, his eyes icy cold. He radiated a dangerous vibe that made people instinctively keep their distance.

At the entrance to the mountains, the two guards watching over the scarred man and the other three kidnappers had just gotten their orders.

Before they could even start interrogating, the bald man heard he was about to be left for dead in the mountains and instantly spilled his guts.

“I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything! It was Lauren Baker who ordered us to do this. I was just in it for the cash, I

swear!

“I know I screwed up, I won’t ever do it again. I’ve got old folks and kids at home, please, don’t send me into the mountains!” he blurted out.

“Me too! It was Lauren Baker behind all of it! She even had us lock up a mother and daughter for over a month.

“It was all her idea! Please, since I’m confessing on my own, can you let me go?” another guy chimed in, practically begging.

They were all just the scarred man’s guys, and none of them knew who was really pulling the strings. The only person they’d ever met was Lauren, so of course they figured she was the boss behind it all.

After all, from their point of view, Lauren really seemed to have it out for Hannah.

The scarred man remembered what Gemma had told him earlier. Seeing his crew already blaming Lauren, he just went with it and let her take the blame.

The scarred man angrily kicked each of them. “Cowards! You sell out the boss, and you can forget about getting paid!”

“Boss, I’m sorry! I don’t care about the money anymore, I just want to go home!” one guy begged.

The four kidnappers started bickering, and the two commandos shared a glance. It looked legit to them.

Once they got what they needed, the two soldiers knocked each kidnapper out with a quick chop to the neck, dragged them deep into the mountains, dumped them, brushed off their hands, and headed back to report

Three days later, Hannah woke up with her head throbbing and her whole body aching, like someone had taken her apart and put her back together all wrong.

Every little movement made her realize just how sore she was, this wasn’t just a headache, it was full-body misery.

The sharp scent of disinfectant hit her nose, and she spotted an IV drip by her bedside. She blinked, feeling totally out of it.

‘Is this a hospital?’ Hannah wondered.

‘Wait… am I actually alive?’ she thought, still trying to wrap her head around it..

She stared up at the white ceiling, trying to remember what happened before she lost consciousness.

She remembered finally making it out of that cave, only to be surrounded by wolves. After that, she couldn’t remember anything. All she could vaguely recall was a nightmare that felt way too real.

In that dream, she was a child again, locked in a dark little room by traffickers, and no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t escape.

“Baby, you’re finally awake. Does anything hurt? Are you feeling alright?” Barnaby asked, his voice full of

concern.

That deep, familiar voice she knew so well spoke up from right next to her.

Hannah turned her head and was met with Barnaby’s ridiculously handsome face, all sharp angles and perfect features. He was right by her side, his gaze soft and full of worry as he watched over her.

The moment Hannah laid eyes on him, everything she’d bottled up just exploded inside her. Her eyes instantly filled with tears, and she shot up, launching herself at Barnaby and hugging him tight.

Barnaby was stunned for a second, feeling the warmth of her tears soaking through his shirt where her face was pressed. Right then, his heart just melted, he couldn’t help but think, ‘Damn, I can’t stand seeing her like this.’

Hannah always had this cold, keep-your-distance vibe, like she was untouchable, never letting anyone get close. She was all about flying solo and getting things done with zero hesitation. Sometimes, one’d almost forget she was just seventeen.

Most girls her age were still acting like daddy’s little princess, but his girl?

She could take charge of a tough surgery, snatch the Obsidian Pearl right out of his hands at an auction, rack up offers from a dozen top international schools, and even whip up miracle meds that could save lives.

Her strength was jaw-dropping, but it made his heart ache for her, too.

Barnaby rested his large hand on Hannah’s back, comforting her. “It’s okay now,” he said softly.
