The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 156

Chapter 156

Wolfram had only come back because Owen told him it was the Scott family’s annual party, and Hannah had invited them.

But seeing Winston and Gemma acting like they owned the place, and talking like they were the hosts, Wolfram couldn’t help but wonder if they’d ended up at the wrong venue.

Owen was just as confused. He pulled out his phone, opened WhatsApp, and checked the invitation Hannah had sent him. The time and place were both correct.

“This is the first time the girl of my dreams has ever invited me to a party. There’s no way I could have messed this up. I even asked my parents to come with me. So why are the Baker family the ones greeting us?’ Owen thought, feeling more and more baffled.

‘Could it be because I cut ties with Jasper before, and now they’re here just to suck up to my dad?’ Owen wondered.

“Owen, I knew you’d show up! You still think of me as your buddy, right?” Jasper called out, all smiles as he hurried over.

Owen’s expression soured for a split second when he saw Jasper.

He said with a straight face, “Sorry, but we’re done. Don’t make me keep repeating myself.”

Jasper froze. ‘Wait, Owen didn’t come here for me? Then who else could he be here for?’ Jasper thought, stunned.

Gemma and Winston looked super awkward. They hadn’t expected Owen to be so blunt, totally ignoring the fact that this was a public event.

Meanwhile, the guests and reporters nearby all perked up, their eyes lighting up with excitement.

‘Oh man, this is big news!’ they all thought.

Everyone in Brynlock knew Jasper and Owen were best friends, and the Baker family loved bragging about it.

Now that their friendship had crashed and burned, people couldn’t help but wonder if the rumors from Cavalor School were true, had the two guys really turned against each other over a girl?

“No wonder I haven’t seen Jasper hanging around you lately. So you two really aren’t friends anymore,” Mrs. Croft said gently.

She looked at Owen. “So why did you drag us along to this party? And you were acting all secretive, saying you had someone special you wanted me to meet.”

Gemma quickly jumped in with a big smile, saying, “Oh, Mrs. Croft, you know how it is with young folks. They always have their little dramas.

“Owen and Jasper probably just had a silly misunderstanding and are throwing a bit of a tantrum. Once they talk it out, they’ll be back to being best buds. Come on, let’s head inside.”

She played it off like their falling out was nothing more than a harmless squabble between close friends.

Owen couldn’t stand her two-faced act. She’d known for ages that he and Jasper were done, but she just kept clinging on, like gum stuck to his shoe, impossible to shake off.

“Isn’t this the Scott family’s annual party?” Owen asked, sounding sullen.

Gemma and Winston’s expressions shifted.

‘Scott family?’ both of them thought, caught off guard.

‘Are they here for the Scott family’s annual party?’ The question flashed through their minds, completely throwing them for a loop.

‘Impossible!’ Disbelief was written all over their faces.

Even at their best, the Scott family were just flashy upstarts, they couldn’t even get close to the upper crust. There was no way they could ever get someone like Wolfram and his whole family to show up.

Gemma told herself, ‘They must have made a mistake!

After all, she’d managed to snatch this venue away from Arthur at the last minute. The Scott family probably hadn’t updated their event info yet.

“The Scott family tried to book this place, but they couldn’t come up with the money, so they had to switch to another venue. I took over the booking after that,” Gemma explained.

“Oh, I see. Looks like we’re at the wrong place after all,” Owen said, turning on his heel and heading for the door.

‘Why didn’t Hannah tell me she changed the venue?’ Owen wondered, feeling a bit let down.

‘Did they really show up at the wrong place? Were they actually here for the Scott family’s annual party?’ Gemma and Winston were both completely thrown off.

The guests all exchanged bewildered looks. Gemma’s confidence was starting to make everyone question themselves, ‘Wait, whose annual party are we even at?’

Just then, the elevator chimed and slid open, and Hannah stepped out with her family of six, plus a few

others.

Owen, who was just about to leave, spotted Hannah and his eyes instantly lit up. He hurried over and greeted her, “Hi, Hannah.”

Mrs. Croft saw Owen’s face light up the moment he spotted Hannah, and instantly realized, so this was the mysterious girl he’d been dying to introduce to her.

She took a good look at Hannah. The girl had a striking, cool beauty, flawless fair skin, and long, jet-black hair braided in an intricate centipede braid. Her winter dress was pale gold with subtle peony embroidery, showing off her tall, slender figure.

The fluffy rabbit fur collar made her skin look even more radiant, and she moved with an air that was almost magical, like she’d just stepped out of a fairy tale, untouched by the ordinary world.

Mrs. Croft thought, ‘She’s got beauty and poise, just the type I’d want for my son.

Just as she was about to see how Wolfram would react, she watched him stride forward, greeting Hannah warmly before shaking hands with Dorian and Arthur one after the other.

“Mr. Scott, Arthur, I’ve heard a lot about you,” Wolfram said with a respectful smile.

“Oh, you flatter us, Mr. Croft. It’s an honor to meet you,” Dorian replied, clearly flattered.

Arthur was totally caught off guard. He never imagined Wolfram and his whole family would show and from how things looked, it was Hannah who’d actually invited them.

up here.

Wow, my little sister really does have way more clout than I do,’ Arthur thought, a bit envious.

But then he realized, ‘She’s the genius all those top universities are scrambling to recruit. How could Mr. Croft not be impressed? She’s basically the pride of Cavalor School.

Thinking that, Arthur couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride.

“Mrs. Scott, Madam Scott, and this must be the little master, he’s absolutely adorable,” Mrs. Croft said warmly as she stepped up to greet Felicity and the rest of the Scott family.

Then she turned to Hannah. “Hannah?”

She shot Owen a teasing look. “So this is the mysterious girl you’ve been dying to introduce to me?”

Owen hadn’t expected his mom to see right through him. His cheeks turned a little red as he nodded shyly. “Yeah, this is Hannah. Hannah, this is

my mom.”

Mrs. Croft couldn’t help but exclaim, “Hannah? You’re the genius everyone talks about at Cavalor School?”

“Hello, Mrs. Croft,” Hannah replied politely, offering a handshake.

“Hi, Hannah. Owen’s always mentioning you. You’re even prettier than I expected! Oh, don’t be so formal, just call me Auntie,” Mrs. Croft said, her smile growing even warmer. That just made her like Hannah even more.

‘Beautiful, smart, and so well-mannered, a daughter-in-law like her is a rare gem,’ Mrs. Croft thought to herself.

She might as well have put up a sign saying ‘marriage alliance incoming!’

The reporters who’d chased after the drama were practically giddy, today was turning out to be a goldmine of gossip.

Back when the Baker family found out Hannah, the girl from the countryside, was actually the real heiress of the Scott family, they looked down on her as some country bumpkin and scrapped the marriage plans.

But now, Hannah was not only a knockout, but also a brainiac, with a dozen top universities fighting to recruit

her. Even the Crofts were lining up for a marriage alliance.

The Bakers just got totally owned in public, what a savage slap to the face!

“Thank you for the invitation, Mrs. Croft. I’d be honored to visit when I get the chance. Let’s head inside and catch up,” Felicity said, looking both flattered and a little surprised.

While the Croft and Scott families were having a blast together, all smiles and laughter, the Baker family was left hanging, trying to get them to stay, but getting totally ignored. They just stood there, looking painfully

awkward.

Just a minute ago, they thought it was impossible that Owen and his parents were really here for the Scott family’s party. But now, they had to face the truth.

Gemma’s face turned sour. With reporters and guests all staring, there was no way she was letting the Scotts upstage her tonight.

She plastered on a fake smile and stepped up. “Wow, Arthur, you brought the whole Scott family with you, huh?”

“Hey, guests are guests. Since everyone’s here, let’s just get the staff to set up some extra seats,” Winston jumped in, immediately picking up on Gemma’s cue.
