The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 157

Chapter 157

These high-society parties were all about business deals and networking. Usually, families just sent one representative. But if a family like the Croft family showed up with all three of them, it was a huge honor for the host, a sign of respect.

But the Scott family? They were nowhere near as influential as the Baker family in Brynlock, yet they showed up with all six of them, including the old folks and the kids.

People might think the Scott family was so broke they had to bring the whole family just to get a free meal.

They had no clue about even the most basic etiquette or manners at someone else’s party, yet they still dreamed of cozying up to the Croft family?

They were just asking to be the laughingstock of the whole city.

“This is the Scott family’s annual party. How many people we bring is none of the Baker family’s business, is it? Mrs. Baker, aren’t you a little too nosy?” Hannah chuckled.

“Scott family’s annual party? Seriously?

“Did you just wake up, or are you totally lost? This is the Baker family’s annual party!” Gemma sneered

“Honestly, Mrs. Baker, I think you’re the one who’s mixed up,” Hannah said, glancing at the sign by the entrance. “If you can’t make out the words, maybe you need to grab your bifocals and take a good look.”

Everyone turned to check out the sign, and in huge letters, it said, “ChronoLink Group Annual Party.”

ChronoLink Group was the name of Arthur’s company in Cynthoria.

Gemma and Winston looked stunned. They’d been so busy greeting guests when they arrived that they hadn’t noticed the words on the sign at all. Now, they couldn’t tell if someone had swapped it out or if it had been sitting there the whole time.

‘If it’s been there all along, then every guest who walked in saw it… Gemma thought, her expression growing even more grim.

‘How could I mess up something so basic? This is beyond embarrassing,’ she thought, feeling like she couldn’t be more humiliated.

“Goodness gracious, Mrs. Baker, can’t you see those letters? I’m old, and even from way over here I can read ‘ChronoLink Group Annual Party.’ Is there something wrong with your eyes? Maybe you should go see a doctor,” Aurelia mocked, laying it on thick.

“Grandma, my teacher says it’s really rude to point out people’s shortcomings in front of everyone. It’ll just embarrass them. You know her eyesight isn’t great, so no need to say it out loud,” Lucian said earnestly.

“Well done, Lucian. You really listen to your teacher. I’ll give you a little extra allowance this month,” Arthur said, ruffling Lucian’s hair.

Hannah thought, ‘Is teasing people really that much fun for you guys?’

Owen spotted the sign and felt secretly relieved. ‘So it wasn’t that my goddess changed the venue and didn’t tell me,’ he thought.

“Didn’t you just say this place was booked by the Baker family?” Owen shot Gemma a frosty look and called her out directly.

He was going to back her up, too.

“So, we didn’t come to the wrong place after all. How could Mrs. Baker say something like that?” Mrs. Croft chimed in, backing up her son.

After she finished, she shot Hannah a look, as if to say, “Don’t worry. The Croft family’s got your back.”

“This is outrageous!” Even Wolfram couldn’t help but speak up.

Hannah suddenly thought, ‘These people are actually kind of adorable.’

“I was just thinking, this is obviously the Scott family’s annual party, so why are the Baker family acting like they’re the hosts and stealing the spotlight?”

“Honestly, I almost thought the Baker family had hit rock bottom and ended up as the Scott family’s servants.”

“Gemma just claimed she booked the venue. Well, that backfired big time.”

“I heard Gemma and Arthur were fighting over this place. Guess she couldn’t win, so she just came in and took over by force.”

“Talk about being bossy.”

“She’s been acting like she owns Brynlock forever. The Scott family is in for a rough time messing with her.”

“Seriously, isn’t there anyone who can take her down a notch?”

Everyone in the banquet hall was whispering and gossiping, the whole place buzzing with rumors.

This was a total social death moment, Winston just wanted to disappear into the floor. He couldn’t believe Gemma, who was always obsessed with doing everything perfectly, could mess up something so embarrassingly simple.

“Seriously, how do you even handle things?” Winston couldn’t help but blame Gemma, his frustration boiling

over.

Gemma’s face was so dark you could almost see the storm clouds gathering. Even Winston was calling her out now? That was it, her temper flared, ready to explode.

Gemma barked, “What the hell is going on? Who messed with the sign, was this some kind of sick joke?”

Her assistant, stunned by Gemma’s outburst, rushed to get the lobby manager to sort things out.

“Uh, that sign’s been there the whole time. It’s always been the Scott Group’s annual party, no mistake. Is there a problem, Mrs. Baker?” The lobby manager looked just as baffled.

Ever since he got the notice, it was always supposed to be the Scott Group’s annual party.

“This is a huge screw-up! Your hotel manager signed this place over to me! Are you all brain-dead or what? How do you not even realize the main client changed?” Gemma was raging, practically ready to blow a fuse.

“Get your hotel manager down here, now!” she continued.

‘No way am I letting my flawless annual party go down the drain!’ she thought, her anger boiling over.

“Sorry, the hotel manager is currently entertaining a VIP and can’t come down to see you,” the lobby manager replied.

Gemma’s face darkened. “Say that again!”

When the timing was just right, Hannah chimed in, “You can repeat yourself all you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that you lost the fight for the venue.”

Then she shot Arthur a look, and he instantly caught on. He strode into the banquet hall and announced.

“Sorry to keep everyone waiting. The Baker family’s little stunt was just our warm-up act for tonight. Let’s keep the party rolling, The ChronoLink Group Annual Party officially begins now…”

“We can’t kick off the real show until everyone’s here, can we?”

Out of nowhere, a deep, velvety voice interrupted him.

Hannah’s lashes quivered the instant she heard that unmistakable voice.

The voice came from the elevator, and everyone turned to look, no one had even noticed when the doors slid

open.

Out walked a man who was so drop-dead gorgeous it was almost criminal, oozing luxury and confidence with

every step.

Hannah watched him come closer, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

Several of the female guests gasped, “Mr. Barnaby Thole himself!”

“Even Mr. Barnaby Thole showed up?”

“Did someone actually invite him?”

“That’s some serious clout!”

When Gemma saw Barnaby, it was like spotting a lifeline, and that lifeline even had the manager of the Empyrean Hotel right behind him.

She instinctively thought Barnaby was here to back her up.

She hurried over, her face lighting up with hope. “Mr. Thole, Manager…”

“Freeze!” Before she could even reach him, a bunch of uniformed cops suddenly stormed out of the stairwell, tackled Gemma to the floor, and snapped handcuffs onto her wrists.

“What the hell are you doing? Let me go!” Gemma struggled, her voice shrill with panic.

“Gemma Baker, you’re under arrest for inciting murder, kidnapping, and attempted homicide. You’re coming with us,” the lead cop said, his tone cold and unyielding.

“Winston Baker, the annual report released by the Baker Group contains false information and misleading

statements.

“The Baker Group’s stock has been suspended and delisted by the stock exchange, and the company is permanently banned from ever being listed again.

“Please come with us to assist with the investigation,” another cop said, his tone icy.

After flashing his badge at Winston, the cop gave a sharp signal, and two men instantly slapped the cuffs on him.
