The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 158

Chapter 158

“The Baker Group’s stock has been suspended and delisted by the stock exchange, and the company is permanently banned from ever being listed again.”

Gemma just stared at her in silence.

Winston was speechless.

All the guests and reporters were shocked.

Even worse than going bankrupt, no matter how much unmatched power the Baker Group once held, getting forcibly kicked off the stock market with zero chance to turn things around and a permanent ban meant they were wiped out from the business world for good.

The Baker Group was totally doomed now.

Winston’s mind went completely blank.

He knew there was a massive hole in the company’s financial statements. Gemma had teamed up with Raven to siphon off 350 million dollars from the accounts.

The budget was massively overspent, and Gemma couldn’t even keep the partnership with Raven stable. No way the major shareholders would take responsibility for that mess, so he’d ordered the books to be cooked.

He never expected anyone to actually uncover it.

That night’s party was supposed to be the Baker family’s big comeback, their chance to reclaim the top spot in Brynlock. But before they even got close to the top, they were sent crashing straight into the abyss.

“Impossible! How could this happen? There’s no way the Baker Group’s finances could have any problems! Let me go! I want to talk to the stock exchange people myself!” Gemma yelled, struggling furiously.

The cop restrained her. “Don’t move! We’ll confront you with every single crime you’ve committed, one by one.”

In other words, faking the financial reports was just a minor issue, Gemma was facing much heavier charges than that.

The high-profile guests watching the scene were instantly hyped. The news of Lauren Baker getting arrested was still fresh in everyone’s minds, and now the Baker Group was in hot water again.

Gemma was probably the mastermind behind it all. Plenty of people who’d been bullied by Gemma were already grabbing their popcorn, eager to see her finally get what she deserved.

Looks like fate finally decided to teach Gemma and the Baker family a lesson.

“What evidence do you have? You can’t touch me without a warrant!” Gemma was still struggling, but suddenly, a familiar voice boomed through the speakers, cutting her off.

On the screen, Lauren’s voice rang out, “Gemma made me do everything.”

The big screen in the banquet hall, which had been playing the Baker Group’s promotional video, suddenly switched to show Lauren.

Everyone turned to look at the screen.

On the screen, Lauren was wearing a prison jumpsuit, sitting behind bars. She looked exhausted, her eyes and nose red from crying.

“Yvette Hollow and her mother came to Baker Villa looking for Gemma. Gemma told me to send them away. I arranged for them to leave the country, just like she ordered.

“I had no idea what happened to them after that, or how they ended up being held captive. I only found out they were dead recently.

“Gemma told me they’d escaped and sent me to check the place where they were locked up. That’s when I realized I’d been tricked…” Lauren said, her voice trembling.

Gemma’s eyes widened in shock, her body frozen as she forgot to struggle. ‘How is there footage of that interrogation? The policeman never told me anything about this!’ she thought, panic rising.

“Who made this fake video? Turn it off right now!” Gemma yelled, her voice cracking with anger.

But nobody paid her any attention, except for the reporters, who kept their cameras trained on her, live- streaming every second.

The footage rolled on.

“After that, I went back to ask her about it. She told me not to worry, just do as she said, that she and…” Lauren hesitated, her voice trailing off.

“And who?” the interrogating officer in the video pressed.

Not wanting to name the other person, Lauren switched it up. “She said she’d bail me out.”

Gemma’s eyes bulged in disbelief. ‘Lauren’s throwing me under the bus, she’s giving it all up!’ she thought, panic surging through her.

‘If this keeps up, I’m totally screwed!’ Gemma thought, dread washing over her.

“What evidence do you have to prove what you’re saying is true?” the interrogating officer pressed.

“I have a recording I recovered from a phone’s memory card…” Lauren replied.

‘No!’ Gemma screamed in her head, panic surging through her.

Suddenly, Gemma struggled against the cops and made a wild dash for the tech desk, desperate to shut off the video before it could play any further.

But with her hands tied behind her back, she was totally off-balance, One foot snagged on the hem of her

evening gown, and she went sprawling to the floor, crashing right into a pyramid of wine glasses and sending them tumbling everywhere.

With a deafening crash, the guests jumped back as the whole pile of glasses came down, showering Gemma in shards and wine.

“Mom…” Jasper tried to rush over, but a cop blocked his way.

Glass shards and spilled wine covered the floor, but it was like Gemma couldn’t even feel the pain. She was totally out of her mind, crawling up and stumbling blindly toward the control panel.

Her hair was all over her face, wet and sticky with wine. Her pale gold gown was soaked, her arms cut up and bleeding from the glass shards.

She’d lost one of her high heels and was limping badly, looking like a complete mess, a far cry from the fierce diva she once was.

She didn’t even make it to the control panel before two cops yanked her back, dragging her off.

Plenty of guests whipped out their phones to record Gemma’s humiliating downfall and posted it online, while the reporters went all in with a live stream, broadcasting every second of her disgrace.

[Shocking! Gemma Baker was arrested again at the Baker Group’s annual party, looking like a total mess!]

[According to insiders, this isn’t the Baker Group’s party at all, it’s the annual event for ChronoLink Group, the company owned by the Scott family’s eldest son.]

[Thirty years up, thirty years down. Gemma once bankrupted the Scott family, and now, in just a short time, the Baker Group’s stock has been forcibly delisted.]

[Karma’s a bitch! This is so damn satisfying to watch. Finally, someone’s putting Gemma in her place!]

[Gemma Baker is such a phony, I can’t stand her. Just a few days ago she was milking the whole ‘devoted mother’ act with her daughter’s arrest, and now she’s getting totally roasted.]

[Whew, Baker Group’s stock just got nuked off the market. Glad I bailed out early!]

That night, the trending headlines were: [ChronoLink Group Annual Party: Baker Group Gets Booted Off the Market as soon as the Party Starts], [Baker Group Forcibly Delisted], [Baker Group Permanently Banned from Going Public], [Are You Still Holding Baker Group Stock?], [Gemma Baker Arrested Again], [Want the Full Scoop on Gemma Baker’s Crimes?]…

At Deaxen Hotel, chaos was still raging.

Jasper stood there, completely at a loss, watching as the cops dragged his parents away. Gemma was still screaming, “Jasper, you have to get revenge for us!”

Jasper’s fists were clenched so tight his knuckles turned white, his eyes red with fury as he glared at Hannah and her family. He looked like he wanted to charge over and kill every last one of them.

“Jasper, bad news! Mr. Malcolm Baker saw the live stream and got so worked up he coughed up blood. He’s in

the ER now, and the doctors say it’s critical,” the Baker family butler rushed over, panic in his voice.

“What? Grandpa!” Jasper shouted, then dashed into the elevator and burst out as soon as it opened.

He sprinted outside, not even glancing at the road. Before he knew it, a massive truck barreled into him with a sickening crash, tossing him aside. The truck couldn’t stop in time, and its heavy wheels crushed his arm beneath them.

The scene was pure carnage, Jasper’s arm was reduced to a bloody, mangled mess, nothing but shredded flesh

and bone.

Just as Gemma was about to be shoved into the police car, she caught sight of the carnage. In that instant, she completely lost it.

“Jasper!” she screamed, struggling with all her might. But the cops, having learned their lesson from before, weren’t about to let her get away. They forced her into the car, slammed the door shut, and sped off.

That night, another headline about the Baker family shot to the top: [The Baker Family Is Wiped Out].
