The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 189

Chapter 189

Chapter 189

“Let’s go,” Barnaby said, reaching out his hand.

Hannah glanced at his large, elegant hand. “Where are we going?”

“I’m taking you to see your birthday present,” Barnaby replied.

Hannah arched a brow. ‘What kind of present do I have to go see for myself?’ she thought.

“Go on, and come back soon,” Felicity said as she helped Hannah into her coat.

Hannah placed her hand in Barnaby’s, their fingers lacing together as they walked out, with her family watching them leave.

Out in the courtyard, a helicopter was already waiting for them.

As they boarded, fireworks exploded across the night sky once again.

The helicopter glided through the bursts of color, and Hannah leaned against the window, her eyes lit up as she watched the fireworks go off right outside.

“Do you like it?” Barnaby asked softly in her ear.

Hannah turned to look at him, the bursts of color from the fireworks illuminating his face, outlining the strong lines of his profile and making his features stand out.

At that moment, her heart felt so full it might burst, her heartbeat pounding as loudly as the fireworks outside.

She couldn’t help herself, she leaned in and kissed him.

Barnaby instantly cupped her head, pulling her closer as he deepened the kiss.

Outside, fireworks painted the night in dazzling colors, but inside the cabin, love wrapped around them, sweet and intense, as if the world belonged only to the two of them.

Two hours later, the helicopter touched down right in the center of a historic courtyard house in Kinswood.

Hannah watched as the fireworks that had been trailing them finally died down. ‘Guess that’s the end of it, she thought.

Fireworks were banned in Kinswood, and if they kept going like this, they’d probably be cooling their heels at the police station before sunrise.

“Close your eyes,” Barnaby said, helping Hannah down from the helicopter.

Hannah did as she was told, closing her eyes, and felt Barnaby let go of her hand.

After a moment, Barnaby said, “Okay, you can open them now.”

Hannah slowly opened her eyes, and Barnaby handed her a sparkler, its silver sparks dancing in the air. “This is the last one,”

he said.

It was just like when she was a little girl, and a boy would hand her a lit sparkler.

“Thank you,” Hannah said, taking it, her delicate features lighting up with a beautiful smile.

Barnaby watched her, and for a moment, her fairy-like smile overlapped perfectly with the memory of that little girl’s bright grin from years ago. He couldn’t help but look at her with pure adoration.

Cavour hers!

She used to be such a cheerful, giggly kid. If it hadn’t been for what happened with his brother and sister-in-law back then. she probably wouldn’t have changed so much.

“Your smile is so sweet. You should smile more, instead of always looking so serious,” Barnaby said, unable to resist pinching her soft, rosy cheek.

Hannah brushed his hand aside. “I don’t get paid to smile, you know.”

Barnaby let out a low laugh, then took her hand again, their fingers lacing together. “Let’s go check out your gift.”

As he spoke, he produced a set of keys as if by magic.

“There’s more?” Hannah was taken aback. ‘Wasn’t that epic two-hour fireworks show the present?’ she thought.

Barnaby tossed the spent sparkler into the trash by the door, then jerked his chin at the copper lock on the red gate. “Go on, open it up.”

Hannah eyed the shape of the lock, fished out a key from the bunch, and thought, ‘Seriously? Did he just gift me an entire courtyard house?’

She unlocked the copper lock and pushed open the door. Barnaby flicked on the lights, and right in front of them stood a rosewood screen carved with symbols of good fortune, prosperity, and longevity

Walking around the screen, Hannah couldn’t believe her eyes, a revamped storeroom for traditional medicine and a sleek, modern pill-refining lab.

Thrilled, Hannah hurried over to check everything out.

The storeroom was packed with all the essential herbs for traditional medicine, and the pill-refining lab had every piece of equipment she could ask for, cauldrons, gold and silver needles, everything was perfectly in place.

It was obvious that all of this had been set up just for her.

She’d once thought about building a storeroom at her villa in the suburbs, but it was way out of the way, and she’d gotten used to working in Cavalor’s lab anyway, so she just stuck with what was convenient.

After moving to Kinswood for school, there was no way she could keep running back to Cavalor. She never imagined Barnaby would go out of his way to set all this up for her here.

“The other three rooms are set up as your bedroom, a treatment room, and a chemistry lab,” Barnaby explained as he led Hannah around the courtyard, showing her each one.

“We’re right near the top universities in Kinswood. You could open your own traditional medicine clinic here, make your own remedies and treat patients all in one place,” he added.

Hannah looked at Barnaby, thinking, ‘Is this guy psychic or what? It’s like he knows exactly what I want, he’s already set up everything I was planning to do here in Kinswood!

Suddenly, something clicked for Hannah, and she blurted out, “How did you know I could refine pills?”

She’d only ever handed him the pills, never once explained where they came from.

Barnaby’s eyes flickered for a second, almost giving himself away.

Hannah had never actually said she made the pills herself, she’d only mentioned it back when she was going by the

Nameless Healer.

“Wait a second, didn’t you say before that only the Obsidian Pearl could cure me? But I’m fine now. Did Obsidian Pearl on me or something? Wasn’t that supposed to be with the Nameless Healer?” Hannah pressed, unable to hide her curiosity.

Barnaby just raised an eyebrow, giving her a look that said, “Go on, explain yourself.”

Hannah was totally thrown off, suddenly suspecting that Barnaby might already know she was the Nameless Healer. ‘How the hell did he figure that out?’ she wondered.

As far as everyone else was concerned, Daisy was still the Nameless Healer.

But Daisy was going around using her name and botching treatments. It made Hannah furious, she had to put a stop to it, but now just wasn’t the right time.

There was one thing she’d overlooked before. When she set up Gemma using Raven, the payment went directly to the Scepter House.

If someone managed to hack into the Scepter House’s system and looked closely, they’d see that Raven’s payment was for a job done by the Nameless Healer.

If she exposed Daisy as a fake and claimed to be the real Nameless Healer, it would be like announcing to the world that she was the one Interpol had put a $100,000 bounty on.

So, she’d have to wait for the right moment, when the Master of the Scepter House wasn’t around, and sneak in to wipe out all the transaction records from back then.

“Guess that just means my medical skills are pretty impressive!” Hannah dodged the question, quickly pointing to the west wing to change the subject.

“Is that the bedroom over there? It’s almost three, I’m exhausted. Let’s just crash here tonight,” she said.

Barnaby watched her walk away and couldn’t help but smile in resignation.

‘So she’s still not planning to let me know who she really is?’ he thought.

Hannah unlocked the door to the west wing, and the lights flicked on automatically. Inside was a grand hall with traditional decor, the bedroom was on the left, and the study was on the right.

The entire place possessed an old-world charm, yet was fully equipped with every modern convenience essential to daily living.

Hannah opened the closet and found both men’s and women’s pajamas, underwear, and clothes all neatly organized, side by side. She whipped around in surprise.

There was Barnaby, leaning against the bathroom door, a devilish grin on his lips as he teased, “Baby, want to take a shower together?”
