Hannah’s cars flushed red as she realized what he was hinting at. She grabbed the blanket from the bed and threw it at him. “You jerk!”
Barnaby chuckled, caught it easily, tossed it aside, and walked into the bathroom.
Hannah had already showered at home. After changing into her pajamas, she slipped into bed, listening to the water running in the bathroom as her heart fluttered with a nervous excitement she couldn’t really explain.
She scrolled mindlessly through her phone, desperate for a distraction, when she spotted a message from Candy on WhatsApp.
Candy: [Hannah, have you tried out your grown-up present yet?]
Candy: [Remember to give me all the juicy details!]
Hannah glanced at the big unopened delivery box sitting in the corner of her room and texted back: [What, did you get a sponsorship deal for this or what?]
Candy: [Wait, isn’t it past three in the morning back home? You’re still up? Are you testing out the present?]
Hannah: [I didn’t bring it with me. Maybe next time.]
Just then, Candy sent a video call request. Hannah hung up immediately.
Candy: [Oh my god, I wanna see!]
Hannah’s cheeks burned. She couldn’t keep chatting with Candy any longer. She replied with a simple: [Keep dreaming.] Then she closed WhatsApp.
She switched over to Raven’s account, but then, remembering Shadow’s advice, quietly logged into the Nameless Healer instead.
There were barely any contacts on this account, the first one in her message list was still the Master of the Scepter House.
She suddenly recalled that Daisy’s miracle medicine was already rolling off the line, and her own batch was set for auction before long. On second thought, she decided to change her plan.
The Nameless Healer: [Change the auction date for that batch of miracle medicine.]
As soon as she sent the message, Barnaby’s phone on the nightstand lit up as a WhatsApp notification banner popped up.
Hannah glanced at his phone, then at her own screen, her chat with the Master of the Scepter House was still unanswered.
She shrugged it off and fired off another message.
The Nameless Healer: [I’ll let you know the new date once I’ve decided.]
As soon as she sent it, she caught a glimpse of Barnaby’s phone on the nightstand, the screen, which had just gone dark, lit up again with another WhatsApp notification.
She froze for a second. ‘Wait, is this just a coincidence?’ Hannah wondered.
She sent the Master of the Scepter House a “Are you there?” sticker, and sure enough, Barnaby’s phone lit up with another WhatsApp notification.
Hannah stared at his phone, completely stunned.

Chapter 190
‘Once could be a coincidence, twice might still be a fluke, but three times? No way,’ she thought.
‘Is Barnaby actually the Master of the Scepter House?’ she wondered.
She reached out to grab his phone, but before she could, his big hand closed over hers and took it away.

“Do you know the password? Here, let me unlock it for you,” he said, his deep, magnetic voice coming from above.
Hannah looked up, dazed, at the man standing over her, wrapped in a bathrobe, still warm and damp from the shower.
Barnaby swiped his thumb across the screen a few times, then turned the phone arrd handed it to her. “The password is your birthday.”
Hannah took the phone and immediately opened WhatsApp. The first chat in her list was from Tristan, with three unread
messages.
Tristan: [Barnaby, looks like you’re finally getting lucky!]
Tristan: [Girls can get nervous their first time, so be patient and go easy on her.]
Tristan: [And seriously, play it safe.]
The messages had just come in, replying to Barnaby’s 11 PM question: [You’re the expert here, got any pro tips for me?]
Hannah’s cheeks flushed bright red. ‘Is this really just a coincidence?’ she wondered.
“What are you looking at?” Barnaby sat down on the edge of the bed and leaned in catching a glimpse of the chat with Tristan. He immediately tried to snatch the phone away. “Don’t read that.”
Hannah pulled her hand away and quickly exited the chat, her eyes flicking over the message list.
Ronin’s avatar showed seven unread messages, and there were a few group chats below with 99+ notifications, but before she could get a better look, Barnaby snatched the phone back.
“Just one more peek?” Hannah pleaded, reaching for the phone.
She dove at him, trying to snatch it back, but Barnaby held firm. In the scuffle, the two of them tumbled onto the bed together.
At last, Hannah managed to wrestle the phone away, but she instantly forgot all about the messages, because the position they landed in was seriously compromising.
Hannah was on top, Barnaby beneath her, their eyes locked, the air between them charged with longing.
“Is this okay?” Barnaby asked, his voice low and husky.
Hannah’s cheeks turned pink as she leaned down and kissed him. In one smooth motion, Barnaby flipped them over, turning the tables.
The phone they’d been fighting over slipped from their hands and landed on the carpet. The screen lit up with a new message notification, but neither of them noticed. It was soon covered by Hannah’s pajamas, which had fallen off the bed.
The night was long, and the moonlight was downright seductive.

Meanwhile, at Thole Manor in Kinswood, Edmund was sitting in the living room of the main house, his face dark with
anger.
Chapter 190
“Xenith Systems Group again!” Edmund clenched the newspaper in his hand.
The front page blared: [Xenith Systems Group Invests $60 Million in Scott Group.]

“Xenith Systems Group really is out to get us,” Edmund’s wife, Mabel Thole, said from the side. “But I wonder if this is just a coincidence, or if they somehow got wind of our plans.”
Edmund had been planning to use the investment contract to put pressure on Barnaby, but now that the Scott family had accepted Xenith Systems Group’s offer, it felt like he was punching thin air.
Mabel’s words made Edmund pause. If Xenith Systems Group was just targeting the Thole family, then maybe it was just bad timing.
But if it was the latter, that was a serious problem, it meant there was a spy in the Thole family.
“Who’s causing all this drama and getting you worked up on New Year’s? boomed a deep male voice from the doorway.
Then in walked a tall, skinny man with a high forehead, beady eyes, and a rat-like mouth, Edmund’s younger brother, Howard Thole.
Trailing behind him was a woman dressed to the nines in bling, Howard’s wife, Eleanor Thole, and their son, Dustin Thole.
“Uncle Edmund, Aunt Mabel, we came to pay our New Year’s respects,” Dustin said respectfully.
“Howard, Eleanor, Dustin, come in and have a seat,” Mabel said with a smile, signaling the servants to bring out tea.
“Uncle Edmund, has Uncle Barnaby still not come back yet?” Dustin suddenly asked.
Dustin’s question hit a nerve, just mentioning Barnaby was enough to set Edmund off.
At last night’s New Year’s Eve dinner, Barnaby barely touched his food before leaving, and he hadn’t come back since.
No wonder Edmund was pissed off after seeing that headline first thing in the morning.
“Why are you even mentioning him?” Edmund snapped.
Howard shot a glance at the newspaper Edmund had tossed aside. He’d already read it himself, and he’d heard all about Edmund and Barnaby’s latest falling out a few days ago.
That was exactly why he’d come over today.
“Edmund, you know how Barnaby is, he’s always been a pain. Don’t waste your energy on him. Anyway, check out who I brought along,” Howard said, gesturing toward the doorway.
As he spoke, he called out to the doorway, “Come on in.”
Just then, a figure wrapped in a gray cloak and hood stepped inside.
When she pulled off her hood, it was a girl who looked about eighteen, Susic.
Edmund studied the girl, feeling like he recognized her from somewhere. He turned to Howard and asked, “Who is she?”
Dustin jumped in, “Uncle Edmund, she’s the daughter who was switched at birth eighteen years ago, Calista.”
