Hannah arrived in Kinswood that night with her grandmother and the Jones siblings, checking into a hotel for the night.

The next day, she called Van, asking her to look into rental options around the courtyard house.

After hearing Hannah’s request, Van said, “I actually have a place in Kinswood. It’s been empty for over a year. You can go check it out and see if it works for you. I’ll send you the address and the front door code”

“Sounds good,” Hannah replied, then casually asked, “How come you have a place in Kinswood?”

She remembered Van was from the south.

“Don’t be jealous. When Oliver was chasing me back then, he insisted on giving it to me,” Van said proudly, then teased, “You’re moving to Kinswood now. Isn’t Barnaby taking care of your housing?”

“Not jealous at all. I just got a courtyard house a few days ago,” Hannah replied.

Van was speechless.

‘Damn, she’s showing off!’ Van thought.

“Then why are you even looking for a place to rent?” Van exclaimed.

“I’m planning to open a traditional medicine clinic in the courtyard house, so I need to rent another place for my grandma and a couple of friends,” Hannah explained simply.

Van suddenly remembered the medicine Hannah had given her last time. Then he said, “Oh, Boss, about that medicine you gave me, after my godson took it, his post-op rejection pretty much disappeared.

“The doctor was totally stunned and kept asking who the miracle doctor was that made it.”

“Oh,” Hannah replied, unfazed. She’d seen this kind of reaction plenty of times before.

“My godson’s real dad wants to know what kind of reward you want,” Van said. “Seriously, don’t hold back. He’s the head of the Holt family, a total cash cow. Feel free to go all out and fleece him.”

The head of the Holt family… That name rang a bell for Hannah.

Then it clicked, wasn’t he the guy whose actions got Tristan a beating from his own grandpa?

When she was looking into Van’s godson’s illness before, she hadn’t bothered to find out who the kid’s real dad was.

“Just have him leave a good review, and once my clinic’s up and running, he can refer some patients to me,” Hannah said.

“No problem!” Van replied.

After hanging up, Hannah took her grandma and the Jones siblings out for breakfast. Then she called a cab and headed straight to the address Van had sent her.

The place was in a neighborhood from the courtyard house where the clinic would be. Lots of greenery, really quiet, and the house itself had four bedrooms and two living rooms, just right for them.

Hannah locked it in with Van right away. She paid extra to have a cleaning service come in that same day to get the place spotless. She also had the study and small movie room converted into bedrooms, and bought new furniture and daily

essentials.

Three days later, after all the renovations were done, Hannah finally moved everyone from the hotel into their new home.

“Wow, it’s so pretty! Is this really my room?” Chloe stood at the doorway of a pink-themed bedroom, her eyes shining with emotion as she looked at Hannah.

Hannah nodded. “It was all a bit rushed, so it’s pretty simple for now. We’ll add whatever you need as we settle in.

Chloe shook her head quickly. “It’s not simple at all! Honestly, you didn’t have to spend so much on us. Joe and I could’ve just shared a room with a bunk bed.”

Joe agreed, “Yeah, every inch costs a fortune in Kinswood. Renting a place this big is a huge expense. You’ve already done more than enough for us.”

They’d checked out places nearby; for a place this size, the rent would be over 3 thousand a month.

Back then, they were determined not to leave Evelyn behind, so they moved out together to try their luck in the city, never realizing just how pricey city life could be.

Hannah raised her hand, cutting them off. “No more sentimental stuff. If you really feel bad, just do your best at work and help look after Grandma.”

She’d kept a room for herself here, but she wouldn’t be living here full-time. With the Jones siblings taking care of Evelyn. she felt at ease.

“Got it, we will,” Chloe nodded.

She knew Hannah wasn’t one for emotional speeches, so she chose to show her thanks through actions, not words.

Once everyone was settled in, Hannah handed out tasks to the Jones siblings.

Chloe was in charge of buying all the gear for making herbal meals, while Joe’s job was to learn his way around Kinswood. With that, they started getting ready for the clinic’s opening.

During this time, Hannah made a quick trip back to Brynlock to pick up Hedy.

After a long day, Hannah was lying in bed that night, hugging Hedy close as she video chatted with Barnaby.

On the screen, Barnaby was sitting in the back seat of a car, a trace of exhaustion in his handsome features, it looked like he’d just wrapped up work and was heading home.

“I picked up your son today. Want to see him? Hedy, say ‘Dad,” Hannah said, switching the camera to the rear.

After being left at the Scott Villa and ignored for a few days, Hedy was finally back with his favorite human. He sprawled across Hannah, grunting and nuzzling for attention, completely ignoring Barnaby.

Barnaby said, “Nope, not interested in a pig. I want to see you,”

As soon as Hannah switched the camera to selfie mode, Hedy perked up, snorted, and clambered right up her arm, shoving his snout so close to the lens that it totally blocked Hannah’s face from view.

Hannah burst out laughing at his silly behavior.

Just then, there was a knock at the door, and Hannah could faintly hear Joe’s voice from outside.

“Hannah, can you open the door?”

Barnaby heard the knocking but couldn’t catch what was being said. He frowned, sounding a little annoyed, and asked,

“Who’s that?”

Hannah sat up and called out, “Joe, I’ll get the door, just a sec…” She was about to say, “I’ll call you back on video,” but Barnaby interrupted her before she could finish.

“Don’t hang up,” Barnaby cut in, his voice firm and commanding.

He didn’t give her a chance to finish, making it clear he wasn’t taking no for an answer.

He knew Hannah hadn’t just brought Evelyn from the countryside this time, she’d also brought a pair of siblings she’d been close with since childhood.

“The girl, whatever, Barnaby thought, but the guy? Isn’t he basically her childhood bestie? Maybe even closer than I ever

was…

‘Nothing good ever happens when a guy shows up at her door this late, Barnaby thought darkly.

‘Seriously?’ Hannah thought, speechless.

Hannah propped her phone up on the stand and headed for the door.

“Hannah,” Joe was standing outside, clutching a wad of cash. When she opened the door, he scratched the back of his head awkwardly and held the money out to her.

“Living here costs a lot, and I can’t just let you pay for everything. This is all the money I’ve saved up.

“It’s not a lot, but I hope you don’t think it’s too little. Use it for whatever we need. Once I start earning, I’ll take care of everyone,” Joe said, a little embarrassed.

Hannah glanced at the cash in his hand, looked like about 3 grand. Then she saw Chloe behind him, standing there in her pajamas, watching her earnestly. Hannah let out a quiet sigh.

‘If I don’t take this, these two will never be able to settle in,’ Hannah thought.

“Alright,” she said, taking the money.

Seeing her accept it, the Jones siblings finally relaxed, both breaking into relieved, grateful smiles.

“We won’t keep you up. Goodnight,” Joe said.

“Goodnight,” Hannah said.

Hannah closed the door, went to her room, and picked up her phone, only to find Barnaby had hung up the video call.

Soon, their chat was filled with transfer notifications.
