The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 202

Chapter 202

Hannah froze, feeling Barnaby’s gaze burning into her back. She’d just done something shady, and guilt made her instinctively straighten up, trying to look innocent.

Barnaby stared at her back, his gaze unreadable.

He’d just tracked down the hacker who broke into the finance system’s firewall, the culprit was right there in the records room on the first floor of admin.

He rushed over just as security spotted someone suspicious, and when he got here, he saw Spencer and Hannah, caught in a struggle.

This spot was close to the records room on the first floor. With Scorpio’s analysis pointing to an inside job, Hannah being here was just a little too convenient.

And to top it off, she was hanging out with that psycho Spencer.

Spencer was a bastard, just like Barnaby. But while Barnaby didn’t find out until he was eight that his dad was married and his mom was the other woman, Spencer had been raised outside the family by the Lynch family head from the very beginning.

It wasn’t until Spencer was fifteen that the Lynch family’s only legitimate son got into a car accident and ended disabled. With no heir left, the Lynch family head finally brought Spencer back to be groomed as the new heir.

But after fifteen years of living as an outsider, Spencer had picked up all sorts of bad habits, and the Lynch family head couldn’t stand it.

Seeing the Thole family’s new head send Barnaby off to the military to toughen up, he decided to do the same with Spencer, hoping the army would straighten him out.

So Barnaby and Spencer ended up as rookies in the same batch, and from day one, they were rivals.

Spencer had to compete with Barnaby over everything, from who could do more push-ups to who could lead their team to more S-level missions.

Even when Barnaby was picked by the military’s tech department to teach hacking skills, Spencer shamelessly begged to join in and learn too.

Spencer barely had time to put his new skills to use before the Lynch family yanked him back. After that, Barnaby hardly ever ran into him again.

Hannah had no idea who wiped that transaction info. As long as she played it cool, she figured no one would pin it on her anytime soon. She pushed down her guilt and turned around.

‘Seriously, why do you get jealous over every single person?’ Hannah said, rolling her eyes.

Barnaby narrowed his eyes. “Wait, are you hiding something with him?”

Hannah shot him a cute glare, her voice full of mock annoyance.

“What kind of boyfriend are you, anyway? I just got harassed by some psycho, and now you’re accusing me of having something with him! I’m pissed, and nothing you say is gonna make it better!”

After flipping the blame on him, she pretended to be mad and turned to leave.

Chapter 202

Barnaby didn’t know what to say.

Watching her stomp off, Barnaby started to doubt himself. ‘Am I just being paranoid?’ he wondered.

He pulled out his phone and texted Axel, [Keep a close eye on Spencer.]

Then he followed after Hannah.

Hannah kept up her fake sulk all the way to the Scepter House parking lot. When she noticed Barnaby still following her, she wished she hadn’t been so harsh with him earlier.

After all, she was only feeling guilty because of her own shady actions. This whole thing had nothing to do with him, she was the one who dragged him into it.

Thinking about Spencer’s sly smile and the ring on his finger, Hannah’s expression grew thoughtful. She wondered if Barnaby had met with the Master of the Scepter House yet.

She was dying to ask, but she was still supposed to be mad. ‘What am I supposed to do now?’ she thought.

‘How do I make things less awkward?’ she wondered.

‘Should I pretend to twist my ankle?’ she thought.

‘But come on, I’m on flat ground and wearing flats, no one’s gonna fall for that,’ she mentally rolled her eyes at herself.

Barnaby followed Hannah, thinking he should just drop the whole thing for now and focus on cheering her up.

She wasn’t usually quick to get mad, but when she did, her temper was no joke. After all the work it took to win her over, he couldn’t risk messing this up, he had to keep her happy.

‘How do I get her to stop and talk to me?’ Barnaby wondered.

‘Maybe I should fake twisting my ankle so she’ll notice me?’ he thought.

Right when he was considering it, Hannah suddenly stopped in her tracks.

“I’m tired, carry me!” Hannah spun around, playfully demanding with a teasing pout.

Barnaby smirked and bent down. Hannah hopped onto his back, threw her arms around his neck, and buried her face in his back.

The auction was still going, so the parking lot was nearly deserted. Barnaby carried her slowly toward the car.

Neither of them spoke, but without even trying, the mood between them softened.

Listening to his steady footsteps, Hannah hesitated, her lips parting as she struggled with her words. “But… I do have something I haven’t told you.”

Barnaby softened, replying gently, “I’m sorry for doubting you. It’s okay, you don’t have to tell me if you’re not ready. I know you’ll tell me when you feel like it,”

Hannah had this nagging feeling that Barnaby was implying something, she just couldn’t tell if he meant the whole suspect hunt inside the Scepter House, or if he was talking about her getting him to meet with the Master tonight.

“Actually, I…” Hannah hesitated, working up the nerve to say it.

Barnaby found the car, helped her down, and opened the passenger door. Then, out of nowhere, he just threw it out there.

“So, you were about to tell me you’re the Nameless Healer, right?”

Chapter 202

Hannah was sliding into the seat when she froze, jolting upright in shock. Luckily, Barnaby’s hand was there to shield her head, otherwise, she would’ve banged it on the roof.

“How do you know?” she blurted, then it hit her. “Wait, did you meet the Master of the Scepter House?”

Barnaby nudged her back into the passenger seat. “No, I didn’t. Seems like the Scepter House is looking for someone suspicious inside.”

As he said this, his deep eyes studied Hannah’s face, trying to read her expression for any clues.

Hannah remembered Spencer’s sly look and the ring on his finger. If he really was the Master of the Scepter House, then it actually made sense Barnaby hadn’t met the Master.

But then she blurted out, “How did you know I’m the Nameless Healer?”

She hadn’t even told the Scott family, and with Daisy impersonating her, how could Barnaby possibly know?

Barnaby didn’t say a word. He just took her left hand.

Hannah was confused at first, until her eyes landed on the bracelet on her wrist. The pink pearls and white diamonds glinted under the car lights, making her skin look almost luminous.

Suddenly, Hannah realized. “Wait, you were at the auction that day too?”

“Yeah,” Barnaby said.

“Wait, didn’t you say you were at home that day?” Hannah shot back, raising an eyebrow.

“And you told me you were at Scott Villa, right? Plus, you were in the shower and totally ditched my video call,” Barnaby teased.

‘Seriously?’ Hannah thought, speechless.

But thinking about it, since the Obsidian Pearl could save his life, it made sense he’d be at the auction.

Still, she’d been in full disguise that day, and the only people who got close enough to notice any details were the Master and his bodyguards. ‘How on earth did Barnaby even notice my bracelet?’ she wondered.

‘And why did he remember it so clearly?’ she thought, still confused.

She’d only ever worn this bracelet today and the last time she came to the Scepter House.

“Daisy’s out there pretending to be the Nameless Healer, and you figured out I’m the real one just because of this bracelet?” Hannah blurted out, totally incredulous.

‘I worked so hard to keep my secret identity under wraps, and he just ripped my cover off that easily?’ she thought, completely stunned.

“Yeah, because this bracelet is pretty special,” Barnaby said with a knowing smile.

He buckled her seatbelt, then circled around to the driver’s side and fired up the engine.

Hannah nodded. “Pink Conch pearls are one in a million, you hardly ever see them. This bracelet is my lucky charm from my adoptive mom.

“I found it when I was sorting through her things after she passed away. She probably gave it to me for my fourth birthday.”

Barnaby watched her, seeing how much she cherished the bracelet as she gently stroked it on her wrist. He was about to say something, but swallowed the words instead.
