Chapter 220 He’s The Real Main Character!
Christopher sat in the back, feeling a bit down as he watched the four people in the front, all paired up.
He glanced at his own seat. Instead of a beautiful woman, he was stuck with a guy, Joe, who looked like he’d just stepped out of the sticks and was gawking at all the car’s gadgets like they were magic.
‘This trip is nothing like what I pictured. Not even close, Christopher thought.
“Is this how you treat me?” Christopher complained, leaning over Hannah’s seat with a dramatic, wounded look.
Christopher slumped over Hannah’s seat, looking all sulky and put-upon.
“Didn’t you ask me to take a week off to hang out with you? Isn’t that exactly what I’m doing?” Hannah shot back.
“I wanted you to spend time with me, not with the whole crew! Why’d you bring them along?” Christopher grumbled, glancing at Barnaby and Tristan.
“You never said I couldn’t bring anyone,” Hannah replied.
Christopher was speechless.
Christopher was about to explode.
He wanted to curse out loud.
‘Come on, does this even need to be spelled out?
‘Don’t you know how I feel about you?
‘I went through all this trouble just to get close to you. Isn’t it obvious?
‘How can you not see it?’ Christopher thought.
“Got a problem?” Barnaby gave him a cold side-eye.

Christopher felt a chill run down his spine, like Barnaby’s stare was an ice-cold blade cutting right through him. But if he chickened out now, he never would’ve tried to steal Hannah from Barnaby in the first place.
“If you were in my shoes, would you be whining?” Christopher shot back.
“Suck it up, or get out. Your call,” Barnaby said coldly.
If Hannah hadn’t promised to hang out with Christopher, Barnaby never would’ve let this sissy guy in the car.
‘Does he really think I’m blind? Like I can’t see right through his sleazy little schemes?
‘If he dares to have any funny ideas about my girl, I’ll make sure he knows his place.’ Barnaby thought.
“This is my trip! Why should I be the one to get kicked out?” Christopher shot back, muttering under his breath as he slumped into his seat.
‘Like hell I’m getting out of this car,’ Christopher thought stubbornly.
“Come on, the more the merrier! And don’t worry, Tristan’s only here because I invited him,” Candy said with a cheerful grin, trying to smooth things over.
“Plus, you’ve got heirs from two of the top four families riding with you. That’s some serious bragging rights! When you get back, you’ll have some epic stories to tell your friends,” she added.
There was no arguing with that.
Christopher and Tristan weren’t exactly strangers. Back in their clubbing days, they’d bump into each other all the time and knock back a few drinks together.
Tristan’s mood could flip on a dime, nobody in their right mind would mess with him, and Christopher was no exception. As for Barnaby, Christopher barely knew the guy before Hannah came into the picture. Word was, he was tough as nails and straight out of the military. Christopher wouldn’t stand a chance against him.
‘Sometimes one gotta roll with the punches. It’s just hanging out, no big deal. Barnaby’s just some army dude, bet he’s totally clueless when it comes to romance.
‘He wouldn’t stand a chance against a player like me!
‘Just watch, Barnaby, I’m gonna snatch your girl right out from under your nose!’ Christopher thought to himself.
He pictured himself winning and couldn’t help but paftos valla piace

‘Real men don’t settle scores with fists or mone, baboy shot of the game of love!’ he thought happily.
“What’s got you grinning like that, Christopher?” Joe asked, giving him a weird look.

Christopher’s smile dropped instantly. “Why do you care? Wait, you’re the one grinning like an idiot, heck, your whole family’ s a bunch of goofballs!”
Joe just stared at him, totally speechless.
Christopher was still grumbling when he happened to glance out the window and spotted a sign pointing toward Cerulean Lake on the opposite fork in the road.
“We’re going the wrong way! I want to catch the sunset at Cerulean Lake!” he started hollering.
He even tried to climb over the middle row to stop Tristan, but Joe grabbed him and held him back.
“Shut up! Keep it up and I’ll throw you out myself,” Barnaby warned in a low, dangerous voice.
Christopher looked outside, they were on a tangled overpass, with traffic streaming by below. He clammed up instantly.
‘Me, the golden boy back home, getting bossed around like this? Since when do I have to put up with this?’ Christopher muttered to himself.
‘This day must be cursed or something. Nothing’s gone right since I woke up, he thought, feeling totally jinxed.
‘Wasn’t I supposed to be the star of this trip? Seriously?’ Christopher sulked to himself.
An hour and a half later, the SUV rolled into a gorgeous ranch.
Both sides of the road were bursting with vibrant flowers, and behind the ranch stretched endless green prairie and distant mountains. The scenery was a total knockout.
Once Hannah got out of the SUV, she and Candy made a beeline for the wide-open prairie.
When she was a kid living with the Thole family, Hannah learned to ride horses. But after she went to live in the mountains with her grandma, she hadn’t seen a prairie since then.
Candy grew up riding horses overseas, too, but in her eyes, even the royal stables abroad weren’t even a third as big as this place.
Barnaby, Tristan, and Christopher trailed behind them, while Joe went off to park the SUV and handle the check-in.
“Want to go horseback riding?” Barnaby asked, coming up next to Hannah.
Out on the prairie, ranch staff were leading horses around, letting tourists take easy rides across the grass.
Hannah nodded. “It’s been ages since I last got on a horse.”
“Let’s go! The sun’s still up, so we’ve got time to ride a couple rounds,” Candy called out, taking the lead toward the stables. When Christopher saw they were about to go horseback riding, he couldn’t help but grin. ‘Horseback riding? Now that’s right up my alley!’
Back at the equestrian club in Kinswood, he was a total legend.
After feeling like a total loser the whole ride, he was finally ready to show everyone who’s boss.
When they reached the stables, Christopher’s eyes sparkled. “Since we all know how to ride, how about we spice things up with a race?”
“So, what does the winner get?” Candy asked, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
“Whoever comes in first gets to be the trip commander! Everyone else has to follow their orders, no questions asked,” Christopher announced.
“I’m in!” Candy chimed in. “But Hannah hasn’t ridden in forever, so let’s cut her some slack, alright?”
“No worries, I’m just here for the vibes. You guys go all out,” Hannah said.
Barnaby nodded. “Sounds good to me.”
Tristan shrugged. “Kinda silly, but since everyone’s game, let’s roll with it.”
So, they started picking out their horses.
Candy went for a sleek Arabian, Christopher chose a black thoroughbred, Tristan picked a white Quarter Horse, Hannah went with a silvery Akhal-Teke, and Barnaby grabbed a chestnut Akhal-Teke.
The five of them led their horses out onto the prairie, where race markers had already been set up.
Christopher pointed to a red flag about 3000 feet ahead. “Whoever gets their horse to that flag first wins.”
Everyone nodded, all clear on the rules.
“On your marks, get set, go!”
As soon as the staff blew the whistle, Christopher and Candy kicked their horses into a full gallop. Tristan had been calling

the whole thing childish, but the moment the race started, his competitive streak kicked in and he took off after them.
Hannah couldn’t care less who ended up as the trip commander, she was just there to enjoy a ride. But out of the corner of her eye, she saw Barnaby rein in his horse and move closer to her.
Up ahead, Christopher and Tristan were neck and neck, trading the lead back and forth, neither willing to let the other pull
ahead.
With just over 300 feet to go, a silvery Akhal-Teke suddenly blazed past both of them, crossed the finish line first, then just slowed to a casual stroll like nothing happened.
Except… there was nobody in the saddle.
Tristan went stock-still.
Christopher froze.
“Wait, wasn’t that Hannah’s horse? Where’s Hannah?!” Candy shouted, totally freaked out.
Candy came in fourth, only to see Hannah’s silvery Akhal-Teke just wandering around the field.
They all freaked out, thinking something must’ve gone wrong.
But when they turned around, they spotted a chestnut Akhal-Teke off in the distance, with a guy and a girl riding together, looking totally cool and carefree as they raced across the prairie.
