Chapter 242 Familiar Faces From The Past
Chapter 242 Familiar Faces From The Past
Howard and Dustin got back to Thole Manor after work and heard about what had happened to Iris earlier that afternoon.
Her prenatal medicine had been switched, and she’d almost los the baby. Luckily, Ms. Carter and the Nameless Healer managed to stabilize her.
Edmund had set up a special dinner in the banquet hall to thank them, so Howard and Dustin went straight over to check out the situation.
Edmund actually had something he wanted to discuss with Howard and Dustin. Since Hannah and the others hadn’t arrived yet, he asked them to stick around and started asking about the latest progress on the Thole Group’s main project.
“Have you found the right person to head up the new system project?” Edmund asked.
Last month, Xenith Systems Group rolled out their Teichron OS, and this month, their phone sales had already surpassed the Thole Group’s, which had always dominated the charts. It dealt another blow to the Thole Group.
Plus, word was that Xenith Systems Group was putting together a team to develop in-house chips, all to push their Teichron OS and grab more market share. That was putting serious pressure on the Thole Group.
Xenith Systems Group went public after just one year, becoming the fastest IPO in history with a market cap of $15 billion.
Compared to the Thole Group’s $400 billion, the difference looked massive, but it was worth remembering that Xenith Systems Group would only be three years old next month, while the Thole Group’s value was the result of nearly a century of growth.
Facing this ambitious newcomer, Edmund, the chairman, and Howard, the CEO, couldn’t help but feel the heat. After weighing their options, they decided the Thole Group needed to develop a new system of their own.
“I reached out to Vulcan and Shadow on the hacker forum,” Howard said. “Vulcan completely shut me down, didn’t even give me the time of day. Shadow said he was too busy, but he recommended his mentee, Raven.”
As he spoke, Howard motioned for Dustin to hand over the files they’d gathered earlier to Edmund.
“This is everything I could dig up on Raven’s software and firewall systems,” Dustin said, clearly impressed.
“She’s designed the firewalls for several major websites in the country. Word is, she can even hack into Veridia’s military satellites. She’s got a reputation for being a legend, people say she’s almost as good as her mentor, Shadow.”
Dustin couldn’t help but sound impressed.
Even though Dustin majored in accounting, he dabbled in programming and was oddly obsessed with the mysterious world of hackers. So when his dad asked him to dig up info on Raven, he went all out.
When he saw on the hacker forum that Raven had actually hacked into Veridia’s military satellites, he admired Raven even more for that kind of skill.
He couldn’t help but imagine what kind of man Raven must be, to have such insane abilities.
Even though Raven’s true identity was still a mystery, Dustin instinctively believed Raven was a man, after all, only a guy could have the kind of razor-sharp logic to tame all that chaotic code.
If he could get someone that powerful on his side, his chances of snagging the Thole family’s top spot would be almost unbeatable.
“Raven’s got some serious skills,” Edmund said, scanning the files. “But I heard Interpol’s after him. Someone wanted for stuff like international military hacking? That’s way too risky. If we work with someone like that, it could be bad news for the Thole Group’s reputation.”
“Edmund, you can relax,” Howard said. “I’ve already talked to some people over in Veridia. They’re not really out to punish Raven, they’re after his skills.”
“When Raven hacked into their satellite, VER-224, he even patched up a bug they’d been stuck on forever. With skills like that, of course they want him.
“Raven’s real identity is still a total mystery, so they can’t reach. That’s why they put out a reward, hoping someone can help them find Raven. And those charges? Just a scare tactic to keep other people from trying to poach him,” Howard added.
Everyone wants top talent, and Veridia’s going all out to snag Raven
“Exactly,” Dustin chimed in. “If the Thole family
even start developing our own chips”

Edmund nodded. “Alright, go ahead and reach out to Raven.”
“Got it,” Howard replied, then turned to Dustin. “Dustin, this one on you.”
Dustin knew his dad was giving him a chance to shine in front of Edmund. He replied with confidence. “No problem. I’ll get

in touch with Raven and make sure we seal the deal. You can count on me.”
Edmund nodded in satisfaction, thinking to himself, ‘If only Barnaby were this easy to deal with!
“Lord Edmund, Lord Howard, Lady Mabel just arrived with Ms. Carter and the Nameless Healer,” the butler announced as he
walked in.
Right as he said that, Mabel came in with Hannah and Evelyn.
Hannah knew this place like the back of her hand, she used to come here all the time when she was a kid.
Thole Manor was massive, and every branch of the family had their own private wing. Usually, everyone ate in their own space, and the banquet hall was reserved for big-deal guests or official family business.
With Edmund and Mabel hosting her and Evelyn here, Hannah felt like she was walking straight into a setup.
As Edmund sat at the head of the long table, the moment he laid eyes on Hannah, he finally got why Barnaby refused to let her go.
The sweet little girl from years ago had grown into a graceful, striking young woman, her beauty was cold, flawless, and she carried herself with a cool, distant vibe. Honestly, Daisy couldn’t even come close to her.
And with her true identity as the Nameless Healer, there was no question, Hannah was exactly the kind of woman every powerful family would be lining up to make their daughter-in-law
But she used to be his sixth brother’s daughter!
Even if she was switched at birth and there was no blood relation, they were still uncle and niece once.
‘How could Barnaby be into Hannah, let alone want to marry her Edmund thought, still totally thrown by the whole thing.
Edmund just couldn’t get over it, no matter what, he couldn’t accept the idea of those two together.
“All of us go way back, don’t we? You remember everyone, right? This is Edmund, Howard, and Dustin,” Mabel said, introducing them. “And over here, we’ve got Mrs. Evelyn Carter and Hannah.”
Hannah inclined her chin, her icy gaze gliding over the three men before finally settling on Dustin. For a split second, pure disgust flashed in her eyes.
She remembered perfectly well how Dustin used to bully her and snitch on Barnaby every chance he got.
Dustin was sizing Hannah up too, his eyes filled with a cocktail of disgust and envy, three parts hate, seven parts jealousy.
He never would’ve believed that the little tagalong who used to chase after Barnaby all day would end up being the
Nameless Healer.
It was bad enough she was a clingy brat back then, but now she was still hanging onto Barnaby, tangled up in some twisted, forbidden romance. Honestly, that was even nastier than being gay.
Their eyes met, both radiating pure loathing, then they quickly lapked away, unable to stand each other for even a second.
“Have a seat, everyone. It’s dinner time, so let’s eat first,” Edmund said, his tone polite enough.
Mabel told the butler to start serving, then graciously invited Evelyn and Hannah to take their seats.
Hannah couldn’t shake the memory of Barnaby getting drugged and the way Iris had looked just now, completely wrecked. She had zero interest in touching anything the Thole family served.
She didn’t move an inch, her tone icy. “Just get to the point.”
