Chapter 244 Barnaby Is Pissed Off

Chapter 244 Barnaby Is Pissed Off

Hannah was surprised to see Barnaby back so soon.

She wanted to ask how Hedy was doing, but Barnaby’s face was cold, his gaze icy and sharp as he stared at Edmund and the others. He didn’t even look her way.

Hannah spotted Susie trailing after Barnaby. She wasn’t really surprised to see Susie at the Thole family’s place, honestly, it would’ve been strange if she didn’t show up.

But since Susie was already coming back to the Thole family, it ficked Hannah off that she’d pulled such a stunt with Evelyn right before returning.

“Susie, you…” Evelyn blurted out, unable to hold back her irritation.

Unlike Hannah, Evelyn was genuinely shocked to see Susie.

Susie was dressed to the nines, looking way fancier than she ever did at the Scott Villa. No wonder no one could find her lately, she’d been living it up with the Thole family, and they’d already accepted her.

Sure, Evelyn had guessed Susie might show up at the Thole family, but seeing it with her own eyes was a whole different story.

Thinking about the messed-up stuff Susie pulled before she left just made Evelyn feel even worse inside.

When Susie spotted Evelyn, her heart skipped a beat, she felt a little guilty for a second. But then she thought, ‘As long as I don’t admit to anything, they can’t touch me.’

Plus, she knew Evelyn would never have the heart to hurt her, she was her only granddaughter, the only family she had left in the world.

Right now, all Susie cared about was making sure Hannah didn’t get to stay with the Thole family.

Susie had thought that after all her hard work, she’d finally be better than Hannah when they met again.

But she never expected Hannah to be not just an academic prodigy, but also the Nameless Healer, the one every powerful family was desperate to win over.

Even Edmund was fighting to keep Hannah in the Thole family.

Edmund felt his head start to ache the moment both Barnaby and Susie walked in, especially when he caught sight of Barnaby.

He put on a stern expression and said, “Since everyone’s here, let’s all listen to Hannah’s decision.”

Edmund knew he couldn’t do anything about Barnaby, so he decided to focus on Hannah instead.

If he could make her his adopted daughter, not only would Barnaby and Hannah restore their uncle-niece relationship, but the Thole family would also have the Nameless Healer on their side. It’d be killing two birds with one stone.

“If you become the third daughter of the Thole family again, you’ll get all the perks that come with it,” Edmund said to Hannah.

Hannah knew exactly what Edmund was up to, he just wanted to officially bring her into the Thole family. She’d had plenty of similar offers from other rich families before.

But seeing Susie looking all anxious, Hannah purposely asked, “If I get my title back, what happens to her?”

Susie was a nervous wreck, terrified that if Hannah said yes, shed lose her spot in the Thole family for good.

Her fists clenched tight before she even noticed, biting back her jealousy and rage, all eyes on Edmund, desperate for his reply.

Barnaby’s chilling gaze landed on Hannah, like he was genuinely caught off guard by her question.

‘Is she really that desperate to reclaim her spot as the Thole family’s third daughter? Barnaby thought, a hint of annoyance flickering in his mind.

“Susie Thole is still Thole family by blood. If you get your title back, she’ll be the fourth daughter, Edmund said.

‘Wow, she’s even gone and picked up a proper Thole name now Hannah thought, a bit of sarcasm creeping in.

‘Susie sure moves fast, Hannah mused, a wry smile tugging at Her lips.

Hearing that, Susie pinched her thigh hard, tearthy

just so you could keep living the high life!

“Now that things have flipped, you wanna act like none of that ever happened?” Barnaby cut in, his voice cold as ice.

Barnaby fixed Susie with an icy stare, his voice cold and steely as he cut her off, ruthless as ever.

Susie froze, totally blindsided. She never thought Barnaby would expose her so mercilessly, especially when Hannah hadn’t even said a word.

Susie’s mind reeled, wasn’t she his own niece? How could he be so harsh?

Susie gave Barnaby her best puppy-dog eyes, acting like she was the victim here. “Uncle Barnaby, I…”

Barnaby cut her off coldly. “Shut up. Hannah’s got all the time in the world to deal with you. Why are you so desperate to throw yourself under the bus? Planning on not surviving till tomorrow or something? Get out!”

Susie was left frozen, totally shell-shocked, her face cycling through red, pale, and green as Barnaby left her completely wrecked.

Hannah stared at Barnaby in shock, thinking, ‘For the first time, realized just how savage this guy could be with his words!’

Barnaby’s eyes narrowed, cold as steel, as he turned to Edmund

“And you, if you’re so desperate for a daughter, why don’t you and your wife try for another kid? Quit scheming to claim her as yours! If picking up a cheap daughter is this easy, what’s the point of orphanages anyway?”

With that, he took Hannah by the hand and practically hauled her out of there, not caring one bit about the others.

Hannah was completely stunned by how cold as ice and ready to blow up Barnaby looked right now.

She already knew he was a total drama king, always switching faces faster than flipping a page.

But aside from that one time he was sick, Barnaby had always been gentle and thoughtful with her, he’d never even said a harsh word, let alone gone off like this.

‘What’s with him today? Did he swallow a stick of dynamite or something?’ Hannah wondered, totally thrown off.

Barnaby’s grip on her wrist was so tight it made Hannah frown. She tried to pull away, but he just held on even harder.

“Barnaby, that hurts,” she said, her voice soft.

Barnaby’s face was thunderous as he bundled Hannah into the passenger seat, not giving her a chance to protest. When he noticed Evelyn following close behind, he forced himself to swallow his anger and let her climb into the back.

The whole ride was suffocating, the air thick with tension. Even Hedy, who usually loved to snuggle up to Hannah, was unusually quiet, curled up in the back seat, its tiny black eyes casting wary glances at Barnaby every now and then. Hannah rubbed her sore, red wrist and shot a quick look at Barnaby in the driver’s seat. He looked downright menacing, like he could bite someone’s head off.

It was the first time she’d ever seen Barnaby this pissed, and she honestly had no idea what had gotten under his skin all of a sudden.

With Evelyn sitting right there, Hannah bit her tongue and kept quiet.

It wasn’t until Barnaby dropped Evelyn off at the entrance to her building, closed the back door, and swung the car around to head back to the courtyard house.

“Barnaby, why are you so upset?” Hannah asked tentatively, her voice barely above a whisper.

Barnaby pulled out the key, unbuckled his seatbelt, and got out. Hannah was just about to unbuckle hers when Barnaby suddenly swung her door open.

He grabbed her slender wrist with his big hand, dragged her out of the passenger seat, marched her straight to the bedroom, and flung her onto the bed, shutting the door behind im with a bang.

Outside, Hedy tried to follow but ran headfirst into the closed door.

Hannah let out a muffled groan, wincing from the pain. She tried to sit up, but Barnaby slammed her hands down onto the bed, his voice cold as ice coming from above.

“So this is what you want, huh? To be the Thole family’s third daughter that badly?” he snapped, his tone frosty. Hannah blinked, totally confused. “Me? No way!”

“Not interested, huh? Then why were you so curious about all the perks?” Barnaby shot her a sharp look, clearly annoyed.

Hannah was speechless. “Are you really this mad just because asked what the perks are for being the Thole family’s third daughter? Is it really that serious?”

“Damn right it is!” Barnaby shot back, his voice cold and unyielding.
