Chapter 246 I’m Going To Heal You

Chapter 246 I’m Going To Heal You

At eight in the morning, Evelyn, Joe and Chloe arrived at the clinic on time to open up.

When Chloe saw Barnaby’s car parked in the yard and the door to the west wing open, her eyes lit up.

She immediately started directing the cleaners to tidy up the mess left by last night’s hailstorm, clearing away the broken branches and scattered leaves, and checking on the damage to the herbs Hannah had been growing in the flower pots.

Every few seconds, she’d glance over at the west wing door, almost itching to go over and see what was happening.

Just then, Barnaby stepped out in a black silk pajama set. His usually neat hair was tousled from sleep, making his ridiculously good-looking face seem a touch more approachable

Chloe’s heart skipped a beat as she watched him, feeling a twinge of envy for Hannah.

She swallowed her jealousy and stepped forward. “Morning, Bamaby…”

“Keep it down. Hannah’s still sleeping,” Barnaby said coldly.

The two cleaners exchanged glances, then both looked at Chloe. They really hadn’t made much noise, if anything, it was just Chloe bossing them around a bit.

Chloe’s cheeks flushed as she lowered her voice. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I was just worried about the herbs Evelyn and Hannah were growing getting damaged by the hailstorm…”

Barnaby ignored her, grabbed the medicine he’d picked up from the pet store yesterday, and headed back inside.

Chloe spotted the medicine and lowered her voice. “How’s Hedy doing…”

Before she could finish, Barnaby was already on the phone, his voice low and commanding. “Anyone making too much noise, kick them out!”

Then the door slammed shut behind him.

Chloe didn’t really feel embarrassed, Barnaby had always been cold and distant. She just couldn’t help but envy how caring he was with Hannah.

But when Chloe turned around and saw the two cleaners staring at her, she suddenly felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her. ‘Ugh, why are they all looking at me?’ she thought, feeling self-conscious.

She quickly lowered her voice, trying to cover up her awkwardness. “What are you staring at? Hurry up and finish cleaning. try not to wake Hannah.”

Inside the house, Hedy spotted the bedroom door swinging open and zipped from the study straight into the bedroom.

Just as he was about to leap onto the bed, a big hand caught him mid-air and scooped him up, carrying him out.

“Oink!” he protested, wriggling with all his might.

‘I wanna see Hannah! I wanna stay with her!’ Hedy thought, squirming in Barnaby’s arms.

Barnaby quickly covered Hedy’s snout, checked to make sure Hannah was still asleep, then closed the door before letting go. “Easy, boy, don’t go waking Hannah,” he murmured.

Hedy was clearly unhappy, grunting and whining, but once he was set down, he didn’t try to paw at the bedroom door again.

After giving Hedy her medicine, Barnaby went to the study and called Ronin to say he’d be working from home today.

He planned to wait until Hannah woke up.

‘I really lost it last night. Couldn’t hold myself back, and honestly I might’ve crossed the line,’ Barnaby thought, feeling a pang of regret.

When Ronin came by to report on work and walked into the clinic, he was immediately struck by how eerily quiet it was.

Everyone was tiptoeing around, speaking so softly one could barely see their lips move, if one wanted to hear anything, one had to get real close.

“Does Barnaby always get this grumpy when he wakes up?” Joe whispered in Ronin’s ear

Ronin just gaped, totally out of words.

‘Wait, since when did the Boss start waking up on the wrong side of the bed?’ Ronin wondered.

‘Did I miss something?’ he thought, feeling tot

Back when Barnaby was struggling with those conec, even ne slightest sound would wake him up, getting a good night’s sleep was nearly impossible.

Plus, after all those years in the military, where emergencies could happen anytime and one had to stay sharp, being grumpy in the morning just wasn’t an option for him.

“Isn’t it Ms Carter who woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Ronin shot back.

“No way…” Joe started, but before he could finish, an image popped into his head, a broad face absolutely covered in needles, so many it would make anyone with trypophobia shudder.

That was the chubby guy from the village. Joe vaguely remembered he’d come knocking on Evelyn’s door early one morning because of a nosebleed from a minor case of heatiness, waking Hannah up in the process. Then Hannah had stuck needles all over his face.

Joe shivered and warned, “Anyway, just be careful when you go in. Barnaby’s made it clear, if the noise goes over 30 decibels, everyone gets kicked out.”

Ronin was stunned.

’30 decibels?!’ Ronin thought, his eyes going wide.

‘Come on, Boss, isn’t that a bit much? It’s the middle of the day! he griped to himself.

By noon, Barnaby had finished his morning work and, right on time, cooked lunch in the kitchen. When he saw Hannah was still fast asleep, he took off his apron and quietly walked into the bedroom.

Looking at her sleeping so soundly, he couldn’t bring himself to wake her up.

But she couldn’t skip a meal.

Barnaby sat down on the edge of the bed, bent down, and planted a soft kiss on Hannah’s eyelids. Her lashes fluttered at his touch, so he whispered in her ear, “Baby, time to wake up.”

Hannah was dead asleep until she got woken up out of nowhere. Annoyed as hell, she grabbed the pillow next to her and chucked it right at him. “Scram!”

Her voice came out rough and raspy.

Barnaby caught the pillow and set it aside. “Hey, sweetheart, get up and eat something before you go back to sleep. You already skipped breakfast, and missing lunch too will mess up your stomach.”

As he spoke, he kissed her forehead again. “Let me help you sit up, okay?”

“Don’t bother me!” Hannah tried to push his face away, but after that pillow toss, she was so drained she could barely lift her arm. Her hand just flopped weakly against Barnaby’s cheek.

Barnaby kissed her palm. “Look at you, you’ve got no strength left, all because you skipped breakfast.”

Saying that, he pulled her out from under the covers and into his arms.

Hannah grumbled inwardly, ‘You’re the reason I’m so wiped out!

On a normal day, she could sleep for forty-eight hours straight and be just fine.

But her throat was so dry and raspy that even saying one more word was just too much. Her whole body felt limp and powerless, so she had no choice but to let Barnaby fuss over her.

Barnaby went to the bathroom, got her stuff ready, and helped her freshen up. Her hair was a mess, her face was all sleepy and a little grumpy, but letting him fuss over her just made her even cuter.

“Baby, you look so cute like this,” he said, and couldn’t help but lean in and steal another kiss from her lips.

Hannah, exhausted from the whole night, felt his words trigger a rush of memories. She instantly snapped awake, every nerve in her body remembering last night.

He’d whispered those words in her ear over and over last night, lways when she was completely swept away. Then he’d pull out those wicked ways of his, driving her so crazy she ended up crying and pleading for him to stop.

Worried he’d get wild again, Hannah managed to rasp out just one word, “Water.”

Barnaby immediately brought her a glass of warm water.

After drinking some water, Hannah felt her throat much better and managed to rasp out, “Food”

Barnaby was quick to bring her a bowl of warm porridge, and fed her himself.

There was no hint in his current sweet and gentle demeanor the this was the same man who had wrecked her so badly the night before that she couldn’t even get out of bed.

But the soreness all over her body, and the mess of torn clothes still lying around, were a dead giveaway of what went down last night!

After eating, Hannah finally felt alive again.

She fixed her gaze on Barnaby. “acupuncture kit.”

Barnaby paused, suddenly getting a bad feeling. “Baby, what do you need the acupuncture kit for?”

Hannah flashed a sly smile. “You were acting all kinds of crazy last night, looks like you need a little acupuncture treatment.”
