Chapter 252 All Here For Raven

Chapter 252 All Here For Raven

On the way back to the clinic, Van was driving while Hannah sat in the passenger seat, and she was busy texting Candy

“One billion plus a two percent cut? Xenith Systems Group might not be able to offer that much Are you trying to string the Thole family along again?” Van asked.

Without even glancing up from her phone as she messaged Candy, Hannah replied, “You really think a chip can be developed in a year or two?”

Developing a fully self-made chip could take eight to ten years at best, and who knows how long at worst.

“That’s not it,” Van said. “It’s just that, even though Xenith Systems Group has a bright future, they don’t have as much capital as the Thole family.

They might not be able to afford such high costs. I’m just worried they’ll offer a low price, which won’t help you squeeze more money out of the Thole family.”

Hannah couldn’t even be bothered to respond.

She wasn’t even going to Xenith Systems Group just to talk numbers, okay? She was mainly there to look for someone. “By the way, what are you going to do about that warrant Dustin mentioned? Should I have Oliver look into it?” Van asked Who would’ve thought one could use an international warrant this way, not to arrest someone, but just to track them down.

Still, neither of them was sure if Dustin was for real, so it made sense to double-check.

“No need. I’ve already had Candy look into it,” Hannah replied.

When they pulled up to the clinic, Hannah unbuckled her seatbelt. “Van, wait for my call. We’ll head to Xenith Systems Group’s third anniversary party together.”

“Got it,” Van replied.

As Hannah got out of the car, Joe was already waiting at the door and hurried over. “Hannah, Susie came by to see Evelyn Carter after you left.”

Hannah frowned. She hadn’t even reached out to Susie yet, but Susie had already made the first move.

Hannah handed the milkshakes she’d picked up on the way back to Joe, telling him to pass them around. Then she set her bag down, washed her hands, and knocked on the door before stepping into the consultation room.

Inside, Evelyn had just finished treating a patient with acupuncture and was about to call in the last one. Hannah told her to take a break and said she’d handle the last patient herself.

As luck would have it, the last patient actually knew Hannah and could barely contain their excitement.

Ever since Hannah exposed Daisy’s true colors, the Ms. Carter’s clinic blew up in Kinswood all over again. People were practically camping out at the door every day, hoping for a shot at treatment.

But Hannah had her own rules: the clinic only opened five days a week, with just ten slots per day, and you had to book a

week ahead.

Appointments were strictly online, and patients had to upload their medical history and previous treatment records in advance. Those with rare or complicated cases were bumped to the front of the line.

Walk-ins were not accepted, emergencies were not accommodated, and individuals with minor ailments such as a cold or a small scrape were discouraged from applying.

As for the fees, Hannah charged whatever struck her fancy. If she was in a good mood, one might even get treated for free.

That was so Hannah.

So, visiting the clinic became an experience akin to trying one’s ick with a premium loot box

Landing the Nameless Healer was considered a jackpot, but even securing Evelyn was regarded as quite the win. The only catch was that scoring an appointment had been nearly impossible.

After Hannah finished treating the patient, she wrote out a prescription and had the nurse, Carolyn, take it to Chloe. Then she headed back to the west wing

Evelyn was in the living room, playing with Hedy. As soon as she saw Hannah come in, Hedy darted over and started nuzzling up to her feet.

Hannah crouched down, stroking Hedy, and asked

Whale she want with you?”

“She wanted me to go with her. She said she’d set up a clinic for me in Kinswood,” Evelyn replied honestly.

Hannah was speechless.

‘She really doesn’t know when to stop. Trying to bite off more than she can chew, Hannah thought.

“Relax, I’m not going,” Evelyn said, answering before Hannah could even ask.

Hannah had been worried her grandma might fall for Susie’s tricks, but clearly, she’d been overthinking it.

She stood up and gave Evelyn a hug. “Whether you go or not, I respect your decision, and I won’t stop you from seeing her. But if she ever hurts you again, I won’t let her off the hook.”

She still hadn’t settled the score with Susie for that whole loan shark fiasco.

Evelyn hugged Hannah, her nose prickling and her eyes growing misty.

‘How could I ever turn my back on a granddaughter as sweet as her?’ Evelyn thought.

Three days later.

It was June 1st, Children’s Day.

First thing in the morning, Hannah found a box of chocolates from Barnaby waiting for her.

“Happy Children’s Day, baby,” Barnaby said.

Hannah just gaped, totally out of words.

“I’m an adult!” Hannah protested.

Barnaby kissed her forehead. “Making up for all those Children’s Day gifts I missed over the past eleven years.”

Hannah unwrapped a piece of candy and tossed it into her mouth. “Why just one? Shouldn’t there be eleven?”

“One for each year. I’ll make it up to you, slowly but surely,” Barnaby said.

“Alright,” Hannah grinned, the chocolate was pretty sweet. She grabbed another piece and popped it in her mouth.

After breakfast, as Barnaby was about to head out, he turned to Hannah and said, “I’ve got an event tonight. It’ll probably run late, so I won’t be coming home.

“I’ll be staying at Skycrest House. If you get bored tonight, you can have Candy come over and keep you company.”

Her eyes sparkled. That was perfect, she had plans to hit Xenith Systems Group’s third anniversary bash herself, so she wouldn’t be home either.

She replied right away, “Alright, but don’t drink too much.”

Barnaby was a bit taken aback, Hannah wasn’t coming with him to work today.

She’d been by his side every day before, and while it sometimes made things a little complicated at the office, he’d grown used to her presence. Now, suddenly heading out without her, he couldn’t quite get used to it.

But today was Xenith Systems Group’s third anniversary party, and when Barnaby spotted Raven’s name on the guest list, his eyes grew thoughtful. ‘So Raven’s going to be there too, huh?’ he mused.

“Alright, whatever you say, baby. I’m heading out,” Barnaby said with a grin.

“Hurry up, or you’ll be late. I’m about to go back to bed for a bit,” Hannah replied, waving him off with a lazy flick of her hand.

She stretched and yawned, putting on an act as she shuffled back toward her room.

Barnaby caught her little nudge but pretended not to notice. He gently lifted her chin, kissed her lips, and finally turned to leave.

Back in her room, Hannah waited until she heard Barnaby’s car leave the driveway, then quickly threw on a fresh outfit and dialed up Van. “Swing by and pick me up.”

Van swung by to pick up Hannah, and the two of them headed to a styling studio to get glammed up. Oliver joined them for the makeover.

Oliver was the spokesperson for Xenith Systems Group’s Teichron OS, so naturally he’d be showing up at the event tonight.

They each had their own dressing room. The makeup artist gave Hannah a dramatic, vampy look, her jet-black hair styled in big, loose waves, deep crimson lips, and a strapless black gown with a thigh-high slit that made her pale skin practically glow.

Black was Raven’s color, mysterious, silent, and coolly rational. With that over-the-top sultry makeup, she looked almost too seductive for her own good.

Van knocked and walked in. When he saw Hannah, looking nothing like her usual cool and distant self, he was stunned.” Whoa, you’ve got that ultimate villainess vibe going on!”

Even Oliver, who’d seen countless beauties in showbiz, couldn’t help but give her a second look. Then he stepped in front of Van, blocking his view with his broad shoulders. “Easy there, an. Careful, or she might just make you switch teams.”

‘I can’t even, Hannah thought, rolling her eyes.

Van slipped out from behind Oliver and handed Hannah a black nvitation with gold lettering. “This is Raven’s invite. I’ll be going in with Oliver through the back entrance later.

“When you go in through the front, watch your step. I heard all the top hundred hackers in the world are showing up.

“At first, when Mr. Wraith sent out the invitations, hardly anyone RSVP’d. But as soon as word got out you’d be there, they all came running,” Van said.

Hannah just blinked, not knowing what to say.

‘Seriously? So they’re all here just for me, a hundred grand jackpot on legs?’ Hannah thought, half amused, half exasperated.
